What happens if you leave clothes on the line to dry OVERNIGHT?

I am picturing bugs and bats and opossums and raccoons... :rotfl:

Nothing. Are you picturing the raccoons wearing the clothes or what? :confused3:rotfl:

Making a lovely home out of my husbands cargo shorts, or our fitted sheets! :rotfl:

I dry my clothes outside all the time and the only thing I've brought in is an occasional pincher bug (I have no idea if this is the right name for them) I just throw them in the dryer on no heat for a few minutes to make them soft and get all the buggies out... Never seen a raccoon wearing shorts or a toga from bed sheets yet :laundy:

Sounds good!

I'll keep my eyes peeled for toga-wearing raccoons and post a picture as necessary. :rotfl:

I hate those pincher bugs! I make sure to shake the clothes out really well. :thumbsup2

Had a stowaway bumble bee once. Threw all the towels over my shoulder to bring into the house to fold. I kept hearing a muffled buzzing noise. Finally found the bumble bee folded up in one of the towels, poor thing.

I think clothes smell "funky" if they've been left on the line overnight and have been dewed upon. Even though they'll dry as they're left on the line, they still seem to have a musty smell to me.

Agreed. It gets humid enough here overnight (85-95%) that if you leave clothes out, they get pretty funky smelling. We always make sure to take ours down by sunset and put them in the dryer for a few minutes, if needed.

Does you or your DH have allergies? If so, then don't line dry. Pollen sticks to the sheets, pillowcases and clothes. The person with an allergy would then sleep eith the allergen.

Can you tell I am very familiar with this! ;)

That was always my out when my husband wanted me to line dry cloths. I'd ask him if he wanted all his clothes, towels and sheets covered in pollen. He'd say, yeah, good point. Phew!

between the pollen, bugs and bird poop it grosses me out hanging clothes outside! Give me the good old clothes dryer anyday! We have a gas dryer and it costs less than 15.00 a month for gas to run the dryer and the stove/oven...WELL worth keeping my clothes in the house drying!

They dry in the dark? Unless it rains of course;)

I left mine out a lot over night in New Hampshire; never had a funky smell:confused3

Here I have folding racks and I mostly just leave them set up in the basement.

That's only for 2 people in your house right? We dont have gas as a choice and I know darn well it costs more than 15 in electricity to run my dryer as a family of 6 a month. That said I usually have clothes on the line and in the dryer at the same time.. I usually hang out big stuff like towels, blankets, sheets and yes there are times they stay out there overnight. No funky smells here either :confused3: I just hung out a load of towels.. its amazing how many we go thru a day :laundy:

You get bees and them and get stung 2 times like I did yesterday:scared1::scared1:

3 people....electric dryers cost WAY more to run than gas....my friend (wife, husband, 3 girls in their 20's) were running an electric dryer and she was getting insane electric bills...they recently switched to gas and her electric bill was cut in more than half! Of course the girls were running the dryer every morning at seperate times to "fluff" their jeans too so that didn't help!!

When I forget things out overnight, I just leave them out until mid-morning and the sun is on them again. No musty smells, no animal issues!

I love to hear that more people are line drying! I do not run my dryer at all during the warmer months (I haven't turned it on April 1st). For our family of 5, including one in cloth diapers, we save $35-40 a month from our electric bill by line drying!

I put clothes on the line throughout the year, when the weather allows.

O.T: Hooray for cloth diapers! :thumbsup2
