OK, My DS is really into hard rock...and I am so out of touch. Can anyone tell me what the really hard Rock bands are right now?

what is he listening to? I think there are many different distinctions of hard rock. First things that come to mind are things like slipknot, rage against the machine, a perfect circle/tool, serj tarkian/system of a down. maybe some buck cherry. These are things that he's gotten in the past year or plays often and still hear on the radio.

Then I really don't know where to put hollywood undead but that is the big thing around here with my oldest lately. it's like a cross between rap and hard rock.

This will sound odd but do you have a hot topic in your mall? Just go and look at the wall in there, I think that might give you a good idea of what is hard rock that is being played.

Disturbed, Seether, Hinder, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Trapt, Saliva.

I recommend Coheed and Cambria. They are a progressive rock type band. They popped up on my radar a little more than a year ago when I had a student tell me to listen to them. Now they are practically all I listen to at home or in my truck.

My FAVORITE!!! :lovestruc

So many of the groups on that list are OLD. BYOB? Seriously? I was in HS when that came out.

In "old lady terms" :rotfl: I think he is into Heavy Metal....Disturbed is one that I saw him with the other day.

Linkin Park, AFI, Green Day, 30 Seconds to Mars, Kings of Leon, Offspring, Foo Fighters and almost anything on a Twilight soundtrack.

Disturbed, Seether, Hinder, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Trapt, Saliva.

I like Nickelback and all, but dont think most would consider them "hard rock or heavy metal"

Linkin Park maybe.....depends on the person in question.

Someone else said Green Day, and I'd also say no way to them as well. They are alternative, but that doesnt make them hard rock.

While I don't generally listen to rock, I'm quite fond of Dead By Sunrise (myspace.com/deadbysunrise) which is Chester Bennington's (from Linkin Park) side project with the members of another band I'm in love with - Julien-K (myspace.com/julienk)

wouldn't that make him run the other way? ;) Most boys I know don't want anything to do with Twilight.

Another that my son likes is Rammstein, German band, very heavy.

Can I ask why? are you thinking of getting him some discs for a present or just to get an idea of what he likes? If he's anything like mine, they are all over the place.

I found this too:

There are a lot of ideas.

Bullet for my Valentine
Avenged Sevenfold (somewhat like speed metal)
Rise Against - softer than some really hard rock
Slipknot - pretty hardcore imo

Cold Play? Is Daughtery consider Rock?

Cold Play??? Um. NO.
Daughtry... almost, sort of.. kinda? He can certainly stand on his own, but I think some of his stuff is still aimed at Top 40 radio.

Depending on your sons age, you may want to take a listen to Rammstein yourself. I do like them, but they have a new song that is extremely graphic and may not be suitable for all ages. The name starts with a P, ends with a Y, and has two S's in the middle (another name for kitty). The video they shot for this song is an actual REAL porno. I actually find the lyrics quite comical, but some may not (and they were not intended to be by the band).

he's 17. I know some of the stuff he listens to I don't care for but he's been told if he is going to listen to the explicit stuff he is to keep his headphones on (for my sake and his younger brothers). For the most part he doesn't watch videos. Right now he's more into the rap, which I don't think is any better.

The other two listen to a lot of different things, neither like Rammstein--thankfully. The youngest I would worry about him seeking out the video, if he liked them, he likes videos of his favorite bands.

Twilight soundtrack?? How is that hard rock?
I would actually categorize AFI/Green Day/Offspring in the alternative/punk category.
Foo Fighters: mainstream rock
30 Seconds to Mars is way too emo to be hard rock. They seem more alternative.
Kings of Leon: I can't comment. I've heard their name, but never their music. My hard rock station has never played them (XM/Sirrius Octane).

Nickelback is definitely hard rock IMO. Heavy Metal? Nope.

No, NB isn't hard rock or metal, they are more alternative, just like Saving Abel and Theory of a Deadman. :)

OP Funeral For A Friend is pretty hard, Rev Theory, Godsmack, Bullet For My Valentine, Julien K, a lot of already mentioned bands. What about Metallica? Or Iron Maiden?
