Out of the Port Orleans Resorts...which is more romantic?

From what I had been reading I thought I figured Riverside sounded more romantic, but reading this book I got "Walt Disney World for Couples", they say French Quarter is more romantic.

What do you guys think??

I can speak for FQ--my husband and I spent our anniversary there this past summer. We were given a corner room on the third floor (I'm assuming because we mentioned that this was our anniversary vacation). Although there were large groups staying at FQ as well, you never noticed it. The interior "courtyard" area of the resort is full of tree-lined, quiet streets where we often strolled. You get the feel of being around New Orleans squares, without the traffic, noise, or pollution. Everything is within easy walking distance--Riverside is much more sprawling. True, the food court was a bit chaotic, but the food is great (try the beignets)! We had our car with us, so at the end of the day we could park our car right outside our building and walk directly to our room and crash. On one of our strolls, we found a river in the back of the property where a boat would pick you up and take you to Downtown Disney. It was worth it for the boat ride alone--very relaxing and peaceful. We thouroughly enjoyed FQ, and hope that you do, too!

Stayed at both. Definitely French Quarter. Smaller and more intimate. Lots of garden areas. Best part is the hot tub is away from the main pool area so there's not a big presence of kids in there. Very nice and quiet. The walk up to Riverside is nice and you can enjoy that whenever you want. French Quarter is my new favorite moderate resort.

Hubby and I stayed in both and loved both. Two things I'd like to add. For a trip I wouldn't stay in the Alligator Bayou section of Riverside. It's very nice but filled with young families. I love kids but not on my romantic anniversary trip. Another thing I wish I'd done was to request a king room. The other beds at PO are doubles, a bit of a squeeze for DH and self!

I'll be the different vote. We spent our 10th anniversary at POR- Alligator Bayou and it was totally romantic and quiet. I saw very few children. You could hear crickets at night sometimes. I would definately recommend it.

That is a tough choice I think each can be romantic. POFQ hot tub is much better than at POR. POR hot tub is right by the main pool always lots of kids in it behaving as though it's a pool. POFQ it's away from the pool so less kids. POR has quiet pools without a slide hardly ever any kids in those. POR also has a sit down restaurant which we prefer to a food court, they get kind of crazy in the morning. Whichever you choose have a great time.

I think POR has more romantic surroundings; especially around the mansions. However, I think POFQ is more for couples. I think POFQ is better for adults because it's a smaller resort. A smaller resort equates to fewer people which means fewer kids! I've been to POFQ for the last two July's and very rarely did I feel like the resort was crowded.

My vote is for the Magnolia Bend section of POR. I spent my honeymoon there in 1999.

LOL! I guess we are not being much help...we all have different opinions! I agree with 3princesses. We stayed there (POR, AB section) and I would stay there again. Now, i have never stayed at POFQ, but we did pool hop there they are sister resorts, you are allowed to pool hop between the two) and it seemed a little more "motel-ish" to us. Also, I prefer the pool at POR FAR MORE than the pool at POFQ. Don't get me wrong, I would stay at MB, AB OR POFQ anytime. I just thought to rusticness of AB was kind of sexy. Then again, I am a wilderness lodge lover, and AB reminded me of that resort a bit!

We've stayed at both and we liked both. I thought POR was very romantic and didn't find POFQ that romantic. I didn't find the large alligator figures that romantic, I guess. But walking along the river at either resort is very romantic and the rooms themselves are the same.

French Quarter, hands down! Riverside is beautiful in a different way, but French Quarter just oozes romance. Very intimate and relaxing.

Well, we have stayed at POFQ twice back in 1992 and 1993 and we just came back from our first stay at POR. We were in the AB section. POFQ is smaller than the POR side and only the AB section of the POR side can sleep families of five. Therefore the POR sides tends to have more children around. So if you are looking for smaller and maybe quieter go with POFQ.

Tiffany-That is a very good point...I forgot about that...POR AB section is one of the few (or only???) mods that can accomodate a family of five. Hmmm...I did see an awful ot of kids there....

Ok, I gotta do some thinking!!

Since they are sister resorts, you can use both POR and POFQ pools and amenities- it is a really nice 5-10 min walk along the river from POFQ to the sit down restaurant at POR.

Has anyone mentioned the horse and buggy rides offered at POR after sunset? Talk about romantic!! Just the 2 of you in the moonlight, slowly passing the river and the buildings of the Old South... oo la la!!

So have you convinced you fiancee to go to Disney World for the honeymoon?

Oh by the way - my vote is for POFQ......I loved it there!

One more thing you might want to consider - the resorts share bus service, but the bus goes to FQ first. If you were staying there, you'd always be the first picked up (making you most likely to get a seat) and the first dropped off.
