Out of the ordinary cocktail hour?

My cousin is getting married at the Boardwalk/Marvin Gardens in October. Over the weekend my aunt (his mother) said he is planning the cocktail hour food in a very unusual manner that she tried unsuccessfully to talk him out of. I questioned her relentlessly but she wouldn't break down and tell me...

I am asking everyone here if they have any idea what it could be?

It's not all seafood, it is not food in cones, I can't imagine what Disney would offer that would be so out of the "norm" that my aunt ( no fuddy duddy) would try to discourage...

Thanks!

Boy, you got me! Disney usually seems to encourage couples to do the practical thing rather than the wacky thing.

Food on sticks? Everything covered in trendy foams or frozen with CO2? All carnival/BoardWalk-themed food? Pie-eating contest? Fondue finger painting? Everybody eats from one big trough? I'm stumped... :rotfl:

At any rate, at least it's only the cocktail hour that will be weird. Just bring an energy bar to hold you over til dinner! ;)

OMG carrie! I vote pie eating contest or Fondue finger painting!

Maybe its the Major Domo? Characters are what everyone in my family is what my wedding MUST be ALL about bc its at disney....

i told them there aren't any!

Is there anything that Disney offers that you would consider unusual? I thought maybe during your planning there was an option for something...different?

I asked about the food for the reception and she said it was 2 carvings stations and buffet style. And he told her about garlic potatoes... All normal sounding stuff, that's why I thought maybe the cocktail hour was food in cones (like in Disneyland) but she said no. I am totally stumped!

They are not having any characters due to the prices...

Disney will pretty much do anything that you ask for. some call for different pricing if its out of the ordinary. All of my planning hasn't included ODD/OFF requests. Sample things are normal wedding ideas. Disney parts are characters and venues. I chose food around the parks but don't know about odd ball things sorry!

I'm from NJ where cocktail hours are huge and over the top. It would cost a fortune to do that in Disney, so you find most people only have a few things (maybe 3 passed things and/or a display). Maybe you Aunt finds this odd? I think some of our guests will.

I'm from NJ too! :)

I appreciate everyone's answers. Whatever it is, my cousin "chose to do this" and she tried to talk him out of it but he wanted it. It's so strange because she has been to many weddings all over the country so I can't imagine what could possibly be happening with the food that she thinks is odd. Oh well.

Thank you everyone and if you think of something please, please post. Otherwise I guess I'll find out in October!

Maybe they are having an antipasto display?? It's a cheaper option than passed hord's if he was trying to save money? Maybe since she expects cocktail hour to be a big deal (like it is up north) she tried to talk him out of just having meats, cheese etc? We actually just had this at our cocktail hour a few weeks ago, I was pretty against it when we decided to do it, I never actually saw it (havent even seen any picures of it yet either) but every single one of our guests said it was amazing. If Disney is behind whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be great!!

I would be so jealous if it were all finger foods boardwalk style- sliders, hotdogs, french fries, etc. But if theyre not having characters due to pricing, I'm assuming they wouldn't spend it on having finger foods at cocktail hour? You'll have to report back and tell us!

Are there cocktail hours with no food served? That seems like a baaaad idea. Lots of tipsy people. I know that there will be open bar for three hours, the cocktail hour and the first two hours of the reception, then the last hour you have to pay oop. No, she said it had something to do with the food, so there will be food...

I wonder if it could be all boardwalk food. He grew up about 10 min away from the boardwalk here in NJ. Hmm.
