We do not have any ADRs double booked, but I do have two sets of ressies every night at the same place, same time, one for our table and one for our in-laws table both under my phone number. I called the other day and double checked them and every thing was fine, but I guess I just got a little worried with them both being under my phone number. Should I have put them under separate phone numbers or let them be since it seems as though they are going to be OK?

If it were me, I'd have them under different phone numbers. I would be too scared that they would get auto pruned or deleted from the system.

Oh, goodness. That does make me worry. Maybe I'll call tommorow and try to get the phone numbers on my in-laws ressie changed.:scared:

They won't tip 18%. They are leaving a five dollar tip at each resturant. We have a total of ten scheduled.

ahhhh, i see... although that would compel me to dine with them and make up for their shortfall... which could get expensive for ten meals!

ShellyLynn - Just curious but did you tell them why you don't want to sit with them?
I am right on board with you! I wouldn't want to sit with them either.
Parties of 6 have automatic gratuity so if they sat with you would they split the bill approriately since the tip would already be included?

I thought I read somewhere on this board that even if you split your large party into two smaller parties they'll charge you the 18% gratuity. I wasn't really clear on how they'd manage this, I mean how will they know that the inlaws are at that table and the OP is at this one, but now that she says the reservations are both under her name, guess that would show how they'd know?

I'm curious what the inlaws had to say when you refused to sit with them because of their tipping habits? We've never vacationed with my inlaws, but we eat out with them when they come visit (when we go to their house MIL refuses to eat out, she cooks 5 course meals instead, lol). My inlaws are "10% is more than enough" tippers, so I know where OP's coming from.....we just drop another 10% on the table as we walk out (if we do it when the bill comes FIL will keep his 10% so we kinda sneak it in). I wonder if I told them we were going to sit at a different table until they tip better that would work....nah...MIL would stay in MY kitchen and fix a meal for her and FIL. Oy vey.

Oh, they know why we are sitting apart. They really don't mind, so neither do I. :rotfl: The ressies are actually under two different names but both under my phone number. I did forget that my MIL name is on thiers. Maybe I should'nt worry much then.:)

I was worried about the same thing after reading posts about Disney cancelling for double booking.

I called to ask a) if that were true and b) how to avoid my ressies being cancelled

Responses...

A) Every evening, DISNEY reviews hundreds of randomly slected reservations....not all of them, as they dont have time for that. Yes, the do cancel 1 of DISNEYs choosing to cancel. You dont find out until you check in that they have done this!!

B) I still used by phone number, but changed the reservation name. They could then see we are all together, but some eating separately at times.

Is this what they do at home when they eat out? Do they understand how servers are compensated, ie. base wage at less than half of prevailing minimum wage? It isn't my place to spend their money, but just want them to understand the "fairness" of their decision. Even at a buffet for two people $5 is light considering a bill of likely $40-60. There are some really good CS places at Disney where tipping isn't needed. Perhaps they can skip a TS or two and have an extra $5 to leave somewhere.

Wow....this cracked me up.....they would be that cheap to sit another table:rotfl2: ....unless they want a "quiet" meal away from kids:confused3
Too funny.

Well, when we all get old we start to get a pass on things like this.

The rub will come when one of the little kids gives them the puppy dog look and says "Grampa sit with me", then the strategy may go by the way side for at least a meal.

Okay, this is fascinating! So let me get this straight, you go on vacation with your inlaws who don't tip sufficiently...so you won't sit with them and they know it?!?!?!?? How is this working?? I mean, was this a fight when you told them, they weren't offended??? And how do they defend themselves??

I am so nosey but you brought it up!!!

No its Ok. They don't care!!! They just laugh it off. I know we will tip 18-20% as long that service is good, but they just don't get it and don't care. This will probably be our last vacation with us. Last year, they ripped the staff off on DCL. We were disgusted to say the least.

OP: I just have to say I really, really admire your positive attitude and amazing grace you have to deal with your inlaws on a daily basis AND on vacations! Wow! You rock!
My father in law does the same thing - leaves 2 bucks - we don't eat with them in public anymore.

My sil insists they can NOT charge you an automatic 18%, SO IF HE GOES AND TIP IS STILL NOT INCLUDED..... wE WILL MOST LIKELY SPLIT mY VOTS IS HE DOESN'T GO!!
