After being sick for over 3 days now, I just couldn't get myself together to write our report. I will try not to make it too long.
We were definately overpacked. I had a carry on bag with extra clothes, blankets, pull ups, food, toys, etc and also his Thomas pull bag with more toys and food. Dad had another carry on with lap top and more stuff.
We had a nice mid morning flight so we got to wake up normal time 6 am. On the way out as a last minute thought we poured a nice liquior called Aliza into a water bottle and drank it all the way to Jackson. By the time we arrived, Dad was set. Hunter loved the idea of being on an airplane and it now one of our new words. I didn't have to wait for tickets as we were early. Short flight to SLC then a very long flight to Atlanta. Movie on flight, toys and snacks. Life was great. Atlanta to MCO, again no problems, he napped. Maybe it was the benidryl. The DR. told us to give it to him for his ears and said it wouldn't hurt and would make him rest easy.
Disney express is wonderful! No luggage to haul, no car to rent, just walk up and give them our coupon. Unfortunately, the bus we were put on was loaded with stinky boys from a school and was packed! It was disgusting.
We arrived at OKW. They gave us a handicap room but then saw that we didn't need but they didn't change us. When you walk in they say "Welcome Home" we thought is was corny but about the 2nd day of full parks, it was great to be "welcome home". The room was a 1br suite and wonderful. We unpacked and sat on the porch for an hour. It was beautiful and warm. My skin looked 10 years younger. Hunter just ran around and checked out going from the porch inside and then out the bedroom door to the porch again. Round and round! He loved it. We watched the TV channel for the parks and I lined out our Sunday. The suite was a slice of heaven. We loved the warm florida tones and furniture. The only problem was the toilet was for a wheelchair and too high for Hunter so we moved the laundry basket to the bathroom and had him stand on it. We didn't have a single mistake our entire trip!
Sunday we are still on Wyoming time and didn't get to the park until after 10 am. It was magical. Back up. I was up at 5:30 am and called the front desk. They say come up to get our tickets, walk up, and they say no I have to go to park. Urg, but I did get our lanyards and pins for free. Hunter had never seen a bus until the nite before and we got to our stop and he was intriqued. He loves the bus. All the time we sang, bus bus bus bus, my bus. He still is saying that! DH is flipping out and having a panic attact due to the crowds. I expected Hunter to flip not Dad! I feed DH a valuim, have his wash it down with the gin and tonic in the water bottle and go on. We live in a town of just 300 people and DH is not use to crowds. We just learned that.
Went to Guest Services, they were wonderful. Got our passes and the GAC. Never even looked at the DR. note. I said Autism, Hunter was with me and it was just that easy. Of course the very first thing was the woo woo (train) He loves trains! Thomas and everything train. I had also remembered it was the best way to advoid the crowds of mainstreet. We got off in Toon town and started the comando style list of our rides. We didn't stick to the list but he went on everything that 37" inches allows. He drove the beep beeps (cars) flew the rockets, saw the music movie in 3D, saw snowwhite, small world, prirates, the little blue people mover, haunted house, peter pan, you name we were on it. He was still, quiet, big eyed but loving it all. I think the sensory issues were addressed to the full extent. We ate lunch at Crystal palace and my biggest fear, the charaters went great! He was shy and kept holding him hand up say "he bite". At preschool over 6 months ago a boy bit Hunter on the hand. He still remembers. He ate his fruits and we had a wonderful meal with curry chicken, flank steak, salads and even few desserts. Hunter said please and signed to the manager and we traded our bus pin for a Minny Mouse pin.
We went back to our room for nap. It was so nice having transportation right there for us to use. Hunter and DH napped while I planed out part 2. We woke and ate a nice dinner on the porch and then went back to the park. Bus Bus Bus Bus, my Bus! Train again. We hit the rides we missed and then saw the electric nite parade. We couldn't find a place but asked a CM for help and found a perfect spot. Hunter did his best to wait and then was entranced by the parade. He then said Parade. so we had two new words in one day! The park was open till 1 am and we went on more rides, got the wrist band and saw the boom! Another new word, Boom for fireworks. Being from a rural area, after the first song we thought that was it. It just kept getting better and better. You really do end up making a wish. I think I might have cried it was so beautiful and Hunter was so happy! I can't ever remember him being so satisfied and happy. We all returned to our bus and back home totally exhausted. Only to find that Hunter had flipped the lanyard upside down and my room key and park pass were gone along with my minie pin. Here I was at 2 am calling front desk to report my key with charging on it missing. They were great.
Hunter and DH were fast asleep and I still just couldn't sleep. Not my own bed, wrong pillow, people above being all crazy and jumping on the floor. But finally to sleep and once again 5:30 am. Up for coffee and more time on the porch. We just loved being able to sit outside and be warm. We had a nice breakfast, repacked the park bag, drinks, water, valuim and off we went to MGM. I think we were all tired and it was much hotter than Sunday but we didn't do much there. Everest was great but Hunter couldn't go on it. There was just not much for him to do considering his height. Lunch was fun at the sci fi with the cars. Hunter loved the movies and it kept his attention so we could eat. We wanted to see the lights action, drive, but it was hot and we were tired so we went back. This time to hear welcome home was music to our ears. Indeed. Nap, dinner and back to MGM but again we just looked around, went to a 3D and then back home. We took a boat ride to downtown disney and walked around but we were all just exhausted. We had a chocolate sundea, Hunter rode the little train and back home again.
At this point I really needed sleep.
Day 3 was AK. He really liked it at AK and most of all another quick train ride. He really did like to just look at the animals like DH and I did. The gorilla was huge! I saw so many animals by going off the beaten path. We did the safari twice. Hunter's very favorite was the talking trash can. He just loved it. If it were just us I think we would have liked it more but Hunter just didn't get the sensory needs fulfilled. Lunch at the rainforst cafe was very disappointing. Noisy, dirty and bad food. Hunter once again didn't like it. I thought he would love it but instead it was race to eat and get him outside to the water fountain.
End of day 3 we re evaluated our trip and I explain to dork face husband that we will have to wake up at 3 am, walk to the front area about 1/8 mile with all our luggage and hunter to leave and we would also have to check our luggage ourselves. Also, I wanted to stay. So, we changed our flights to Thursday, got our villa at the same free upgrade price of $99. That was only after 3 calls to front desk, 3 transfers to wrong departments and finally going to the front desk in the morning. It was pathetic how it was handled. Luckily the manager was at the front desk and she just went..OK! Off we went to MK for another perfect day. There was no one there. We walked onto each ride without the GAC and had a nice time just wandering. Not the comando style of our first day. We went here to there. Saw Mickey in toon town and Pluto. Again, more of showing the bit hand. It was cute. We had the same lunch and this time Hunter was not so good. He broke a bowl on the floor and the entire place was dead quiet and staring. I cried right there. But lunch was nice. Tigger was playing with Hunter under the table! We have great pictures. DH bought us a Dori pin and I just loved it. This time he got the backs that go on with a allen wrench so Hunter could not take the backs off. No more lossing pins. We took a nap again at our villa and went back to the park for fireworks. It was just as moving as the first day.
Each nite I was able to do laundry and keep my sundress clean. I was changing out after nap time and it really was a treat. It was also a nice way to make noise for the upstair folks. They were unreal. But we were on vacation.
The pool was wonderul and Hunter is a fish in water. He went on the slide by himself and we loved being able to play.
Our flight out was around noon so we didn't have to worry about luggage, DH and Hunter got their boarding passes from the front desk but they couldn't find me so we just took the extra time at MCO to kios my ticket.
The flight home was long and sad as we said goodbye to our first trip to Disney world as a family.
We will return again soon.
