Day 7 ¾
Today is an Epcot day, so we are on the normal routine up early, breakfast at food court, and then the bus. We get to Epcot, get thru the turnstiles, and are walking up to the ropes. I see a few spots open in front so I send the kids ahead so they can have a good view of the character bus when it arrives.
We are waiting for rope drop when I see a CM walking along the rope talking to the guests. She is 2 families away from us and getting closer. DH is trying to talk to me, and I am half listening as I am watching the CM who is now with the family next to us. YAWN the family next to us is boring, and seems a little put off that this happy, perky CM is talking to them.
FINALLY the CM (Alicia) is talking to us. I put on my BIGGEST Disney smile, and chat. We go thru where are you from, how did you get here, and a few others, the kids are half answering, DH is clueless as to what is going on, but I am putting my best effort forward. I ask her about where she is from, how she got this job (college intern that decided to stay after graduation), etc. She then asks What could make this vacation better? OMG I KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION!!! YDS says staying longer and not having to go home (UM>>> wrong answer), ODS says going on test track again (UM>>> still wrong answer), so by now I am literally jumping up and down, waving my hand in the air, saying I know the answer, I know the answer! The CM just laughs and says we better let mom answer this one. So I say in my happiest voice, We would LOVE to be the family that opens EPCOT!
DH just looks at me with a HUH? The CM then tells us we can be the family, I am so excited that we get to do this. She takes our name, takes a picture of us, explains what we are going to do, we get a card that says we were Family of the Day, and a Fastpass of sorts to ride one ride without waiting in line. She then goes and does a few things before opening, and I now get the chance to explain to DH and the kids what just happened. She comes back, and takes us past the ropes. The character bus comes, does their thing, and leaves. Now it is our turn. We are introduced as the Family of the day, and to help us count down from 5 to open the park, so we do that, the ropes are dropped, and everyone mad dashes to the park.
It was fun to do. I kept having to explain to the kids that it was a special experience to open a park. That only 1 family a day is chosen. I still have our card that I will get framed. It was a great experience that I wouldnt have known about if not for these boards, so thanks to everyone here!!
So anyway, we spent most of the day at Epcot, went of Test Track, Mission Space, Innoventions, etc. We had lunch at LeCellier which was a must for me. I had to try the cheese soup, and it did not disappoint. We spent the better part of the afternoon walking around World Showcase, something my boys were not to happy with. I could have spent hours there walking around, taking in the sights, watching the films, but they were less than interested. So we called it a day around 4pm and headed back to the resort.
The kids and DH headed to the pool while I begin to pack. The realization that we are leaving in 2 days has hit and I need to get organized. While packing the phone rings, its transportation and seems I left my wallet on the bus. The supervisor lets me know that she will give it to the next bus driver that is going to POR, I am so stunned that I did this that I say thanks and head for the bus stop. The driver is there within 15 minutes, and gives me my wallet. Now being from NY I was prepared for what I expected to receive, a wallet and nothing else. I cant begin to tell you my surprise when I got my wallet and EVERYTHING was still in there money, credit cards, everything. I was stunned!!!
I called back transportation, spoke to a supervisor, and thanked them profusely. The supervisor said they go thru this several times a day, and Im not the only one to do this. The rest of the day is uneventful dinner at POR at Boatwrights. I had hoped to take a carriage ride, but they were all booked for that night. So we call it an early night, tomorrow is our last park day, and I want to make the most of it.
