With some of the threads lately about frustrating experiences at DL, disappointments with schedules being thrown off, etc. I was reminded of this experience I had when we were there.

I was sad because of DD13's getting sick and missing a lot. However, at least she was perking up partway through the day and making it to the parks for some of the fun.

I went to Guest Services next to the turnstiles to pick up our tickets for Fantasmic preferred seating. I was hoping the DD13 would be up to going that evening. (btw, she was, and enjoyed it very much!)

At the window next to me, a lady explained that she wanted a refund for her parkhoppers. She said that it was their first day, and Buzz Lightyear had been hanging around in the Esplanade (I didn't know characters ever hung out in the Esplanade??!) and had inadvertantly stepped on her daughter's foot and crushed it. They had not even entered the parks yet. "My daughter's back at the hotel, she can't walk. We are going to take her to the emergency room," she said. I couldn't hear what the CM said, but apparently it was something about not being able to help her just then, because while remaining civil, the lady was not happy. "There is no way we will be going the park now; this has ruined our vacation," she said. At that point I was done with my tickets, so I didn't hear any more. I left and headed back to the hotel, reflecting that we didn't have it so bad after all! I felt so bad for that poor family, though.

Just a story. I'm sure there's some similar ones out there you've all heard about or experienced.

Hi Gail,
I have gone to City Hall to visit DD and everytime there is a guest complaining about something.

Glad your DD was well enough to enjoy F! It looks like it will only be running during summer and holidays for the next several months.

I have been to guest services before myself, but not for anyrhing bad (to pick up my tickets and to file for a lost shoe). The few times I have fone, both outside the park, and inside City Hall. I have heard people complaining. I have had a complaint myself, but never took it up with guest relations because it really wasnt that big of an issue (and they gave me a discount on our lunch to keep me satisfied, and I thought that was justifiable).

We all should be greatful for our trips, even if they were not as "dreamed". At least you are there.

Last year, we went to City Hall to get DS a B day button. While we were there, a lady complained that she had to wait in lines when she wasn't able to. She continued to cry and complain for quite some time until the CM took her into another room. The CM had already offered her several perks that didn't seem to please her. Some people are never satisfied...even at the happiest place on earth!

Well... yeah... people always complain. My point wasn't that people complain at DL, though. My point was that some people really do have awful things happen to ruin their trip.

I'm thinking I'd be upset, too, if Buzz Lightyear stepped on my DD's foot and broke it. Sure made me feel like our trip wasn't so bad after all! Therefore my thread title: it could have been worse. We actually ended up having a pretty good time, considering. And anyway, as per my siggy, DD13 and I are going back for a "do over" to catch all the stuff we missed!

I actually had something bad happen to me when my fiancee took me to DLR a couple of years ago.

We went in the summer and at the time, I didn't know that he was proposing to me. Everything went amazingly the day he proposed! The next day we went to the parks, everything was nice, then at lunch we went to Tortilla Joe's. I had chicken flautas and an iced tea.

We went back to the GCH (thats where we stayed) and decided to rest afterward. About an hour later I started feeling sick. It came to a point where I was projectile vomiting for about 3 hrs. By then I had no energy in me and every time I got up to throw up I got dizzy from moving too fast. I kept calling my mom and was crying from exhaustion and worry. We tried a couple of remedies she found online. One that we tried was lemon juice. So we called room service and I drank the juice they squeezed for me. On the way up (I threw up again), the acid burned my nose and throat. We had to call the advice nurse at the GCH to help, and it did. We stayed at the GCH from Friday-Sunday. I got sick Saturday afternoon. The rest of the vacation I couldn't eat or even walk around. My fiancee had to push me in a wheel chair on sunday and we tried to go on HM, but that even got me dizzy. To make things worse, we contacted Tortilla Joe's and the representative said that they "checked" their kitchen and everything was in order.

I have a strong stomach and something was DEFINITELY wrong there. They didn't even offer anything to us like a refund. It was ridiculous. Half of my surprise engagement weekend down the tube. Atleast we had a good day and half.

Oh, and to make things better, the airline had room on an earlier flight back home and they had room for us. I was just so drained, I wanted to be home so bad.

Ooohhh, man! How awful! :sad1: I hope you've had lots of happy memories since then to make up for it!

Yeah, DD was so sick by the time we got back, we took her to the clinic the next morning and she could hardly walk. They started an i.v. on her right in the clinic and gave her 2 bags of fluid because she was so dehydrated. She was weak as a kitten for 3 days! Yikes.

How terrible!!! Poor baby :( What a way to end a vacation.

DS was not quite two years old when he broke his arm at Disney (World that time, not Land).

We had been getting him in and out of the stroller for rides so often that we forgot to strap him in. He stood up and fell out, using his arm to brace his fall. He ended up with a buckle fracture on his forearm. We spent the evening (while hurrican Jeanne roared outside) in the ER.

To add more stress, we had only had him for 2 months (he was a foster child whom we adopted). We were terrified the state would take him from us for being careless :sad2: Thankfully they did not, and now we are always extra careful to strap the kids in EVERY time they are in the stroller to the point that we are paraniod, lol.

I think those costumes must be hard to see in. My son (the same one who broke his arm) ran in front of Woody in May and Woody ran him over. Luckily there were no injuries :)

wazowskiLOVER, your story is my worst nightmare :scared1: Every time we go I'm worried that one of us will get sick. Thank goodness he proposed before you got sick ;)

I'm always worried about getting sick too! I always carry tums and lactaid when I'm at DLR. I just couldn't shake this. I think it was food poisoning.

When I was 6, I had finally gotten a cool balloon I had been wanting all day. We were walking down Main St. getting ready to leave the park, when we spot Pinocchio! This was back when they just seemed to run around the park, with no lines of kids!

Well he was playing around with me, and takes my balloon. I did not appreciate that. LOL Especially when he accidently LET IT GO!! I bet he felt so bad, especially when I started bawling. LMBO

Nothing compared to having your foot smashed, but it just reminded me of it. I HATED Pinocchio for a long time after that. LOL

OH my... that sounded so similar to our wedding/honeymoon trip at WDW.
I was ok 2 days after the wedding... thank God! And then I was out for the count for the rest of the trip (the honeymoon part). My poor DH was tested on his vow that trip definitely... :rotfl: Called the Grand Floridian EMT and all. That wasn't fun.
BUT now he already agreed that I needed to have a do over honeymoon... :cool1: :yay: hehe...

So if you haven't had your wedding yet, you should try for the do over proposal angle... :rotfl: Maybe your DF will go for it...

Back to the OP post, I feel so bad for the little girl with the broken feet. I hope DL could do something about it. I would be upset too if that were the case regardless if I was at DL, WDW, Universal, Cedar Point... :sad1:

Dd and I had been to WDW but Dh had to work. It took 11 years to go back to WDW. Our first 2 days were great. The 3rd and 4th days Dd and I had the projectile vomiting and we slept vomited and slept. The 5th day Dd was ok. But I needed a wheel chair to go to Animal Kingdom.

We then had about 5 really great days. But Dd want to swim. So she swam while we did laundry. Next day Dd wakes up with a horrendous ear ache. So, we drove her to the Celebration Hospital just as all the Doctors and Nurses walked out? We waited 2 hours with out even seeing a receptionist. So, we left and went back to our room. But the pain was unbearable. We got on the phone called the front desk who said to go to Sand Lake Hospital where Dd was whisk into the E. R. and was taken care of properly. But she was out of commission for 3 days. But our last 2 days we had a blast.

But over all we have great memories! And loved that trip. We are still waiting to return to WDW before we get to old!!

My good friend, her husband and son just came back from Disneyland a few days ago. They spent the entire time in their hotel room with a horrible stomach flu. They weren't even staying onsite and Disney actually refunded their tickets without any fuss. I was suprised! Of course they lost their airfare, hotel, and car rental money, so they will always remember their $1200 trip they took to throw up together as a family.... :)

I've had a couple things like that happen. On the last day of my Disney trip a few years back I got what I think was food poisoning and spent the whole night in the bathroom and then was sooo sick but had to get up at the crack of dawn to catch a plane home. I couldn't even get dressed so I slipped a pair of sweat pants on over my night shirt and I was literrally carrying a trash bag to the airport. I made the shuttle driver drive with the window open and it was in the winter time. When we got to the airport I told them I had to board with the assisted people cuz I wanted to be near the bathrooms.

Plus I had my trash bag cuz I don't know bout you but I can't baurf in one of those little bags LOL. Luckily I was able to make it home but I was miserable! Plus I get motion sickness when I fly as it is!

Then when we went to Disney World the last time Hurricane Wilma was supposed to hit the DAY we were supposed to fly. We had booked and paid months in advance and American said they would NOT cancel the flight unless the Hurricane was supposed to hit THAT day. So we didn't know what to do and as it was it didn't hit till 2 days AFTER we got there. We flew in on a Saturday I believe and everyone was LEAVING and here we are coming! It felt surreal. Plus we had to circle in the air for over a half hour because of thunder storms. Then on Sunday we changed our plans. We were supposed to go to Canaveral that day but went to Epcot instead and the good news was we walked RIGHT in to the princess breakfast but that bad news is that night the rains started coming and by the time we walked out it was pouring.

Then Monday it hit and we spent most of the day in our timeshare. So we lost a day but otherwise the trip was awesome.

I also suffer from migraines and I have had those do me in a few times on trips and I am ALWAYS afraid of them ruining my trips. We are going to DW in November for 10 days and my migraines are getting worse the older I get and I am now on daily meds and so I am really nervous about our upcoming trip. And I too worry about getting sick, either stomach problems or just a bad cold or whatever!

From my Disney pooh Happens...:lmao:

OOOOOhhhh! I can add to this...:scared1: One year I had gone on Indy...(my last time :sad1: on the ride, I know better now) knocked a stone loose...what does that mean..Kidney Stone... BIG Ouch...spent two days in the hospital...Disney was so nice...we were staying at the DLH and the asst. manager of the hotel came to the hospital with flowers...how nice was that?...side note...the Hotel manager told me this gem...they have a lot of emergencies with kidney stones...and the indy ride....:rotfl2:
We did finish this trip…I just stayed off of rides… :thumbsup2

Through all the emergencies we have had on Disney property…I have found Disney very helpful…very concerned…I won’t bore you will all the details…WDW 1994…14 extra days added on to our stay…10 of those days at the hospital… Oh! the memories of Disney…things happen…they make a trip a challenge…but never ruin it…I keep going back…:rotfl:

Not DLR or WDW, but on DCL my fiance (now DH) got really sick with bronchitis and slept the entire 10 days on the cruise and couldn't move or do anything.

There's something fishy about that story...characters aren't EVER supposed to leave the park, and Buzz Lightyear isn't even supposed to leave Tomorrowland (though he makes appearances in DCA, too). I'm not calling the woman a liar, but there's something awry with her tale. Not to mention, if her daughter was in enough pain she claimed she needed to be taken to the ER, why was her mother dawdling at guest services instead of taking her there?!

Curious.

There are many pieces of that woman's story that just don't fit. First and foremost, EVERY character has with them another CM (character host) that is there to assist them with walking through the crowds, line up guests waiting for pictures, help with photos and autographs, etc....

If Buzz had crushed a child's foot, the entertainment host would have been right there when it happened.

If it were so terrible that the child could not walk, the parents would have had someone right there that they could have spoken with at the exact moment it happened and they would have either assisted them right there or gotten someone to do so, including on-site medics if needed.
