Well this is my first trip report...so let's see how it goes.
The members of the family Me, DH, DD7 and DD4.
We left Maine on Feb 10 at 8:30 am...we took the bus to South Station in Boston and got a train to NYC and then got a train from NYC to Orlando. The train from NYC to Orlando we got a Deluxe Sleeper....it was awesome...we will be traveling by train again.
We got into Orlando at about 5pm on Feb 11th...it took us a bit to find the Hertz guy to rent our car...there was a mess up with the car seat rental so he upgraded us to a mini van with a built in car seat...which was really nice of him. We did grocery shopping at Walmart because we knew where that was...we later found a Publix that we liked a lot and we will be going back there and not to Walmart on other trips. We ended up not getting to VWL until 7pm. WL had a box of stuff we mailed down already for us and took it up to our room (a dedicated 1 bedroom room number 2524 it was right above the front door of VWL...DH loved it), plus they had the DIS Board Stroller for the Stroller Swap for me to us. Well by the time we settled in we didn't feel like cooking so I ran down to Roaring Forks and got a nice fast food meal.
Feb 12...we had breakfast in the room and went to Animal Kingdom. The girls got their hair wraps...DD7 still has hers in....DD4 pulled hers out the next day...it would have been better for us to set $25 on fire then get DD4 the hairwrap.
We saw Festival of the Lion King and loved it...we never had made it there before. We then got our traditional photo with Minnie in Camp Minnie Mickey. We then went to the Tusker House for lunch...we used the special AK lunch vouchers that include a meal, drink and a coupons for ice cream and a drink later....it work really well for us. We got one adult and two kids...DH and I split our meal (half a rotisserie chicken) and then raided the girls meals (mac & cheese). We finally got our DD7 to go on the Safari ride and she loved it....this after several years of her just being scared of even the thought of it. We then walked the Pangani Forest Trail DD7 favorite thing to do in AK and both girls loved doing the Kids Discovery Club. We ended up going back to VWL sometime between 3 and 4pm to go swimming and making dinner in our room.
Feb 13....DD4s 4th b-day....we had breakfast in the room and went to the Magic Kingdom. I dont remember everything we did there, but the first thing we did was to get DD4 a birthday button from City Hall and everyone who signed her autograph book that day wrote Happy Birthday in it. I know we rode most everything Fantasyland...DD7 loved the Hall of Presidents but wished there was something about Ben Franklin (her hero), but there is a picture of him by the exit and she had as take her photo with it. We had lunch with Pooh and Friends at the Crystal Palace...they gave DD4 a cupcake with a candle and a card signed by Pooh and friends...she loved it. We had our photos taken with Mickey in Toontown and Mickey had one special photo taken just with DD4 for her b-day. We also saw Mickeys PhilharMagic...which was everyone's favorite (DD7 said that it was even better then the Hall of Presidents (she is a little odd
) ). We went back to our room around 5pm and there was a signed card from Mickey with balloons which was a suprise and a we also created our own magic in case the real deal didnt come through....we made sure a gift bag of stuff was left from Minnie (shhhh...really me but dont say anything). We had DD4 favorite meal hot dogs and mickey mac and cheese...we had room service bring us up a cake and I put on a Mickey candle on it and Mickey Head Sprinkles and we said it was from Mickey. DD4 was in heaven.
Feb 14...was a down day..ate breakfast and lunch in the room...we went to Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine and the Primer Charictor Outlet. When DH and DD4 were napping, DD7 and I rented a mouseboat and then we went to the Cubs Den. After they woke up we rented a surry bike and rode it over to Ft. Wilderness and the girls had pony rides. We rode the surry bike back then caught the boat to Ft. Wilderness and went to Trails End in Fort Wilderness for dinner....it was good but I am not sure if we would go there again. The food was good...but not Disney level....if you know what I mean.
Feb 15....we had a 8:30 PS for the Storybook Princess Breakfast in Epcot. We got to see Snow White, Princess Aurora, Jasmine, Mulan (DD7 favorite) and Pocahontas. The girls rated this breakfast as much much better then the one at Cindys. After breakfast I ran over to get Fastpasses at Mission: Space....I was the only one who wanted to ride it so I used DH to get myself a second fastpass. We went on Spaceship Earth while I was waiting for my fastpass time to come up. The girls and DH went to Innoventions when I went to Mission: Space...I have no idea what they did there, but they had a good time. I rode Mission: Space twice and I loved it...I thought it was a great ride no problems with sickness...but I felt a little dizzy after doing it twice so close together. I then met up with DH and the girls we got to see some characters Daisy and Donald Duck and a few others...that I could look at the girls autograph book to remember who but I am too lazy.
Then we went over to China in hopes of finding Mulan again...but it was too early...we ended up walking around the World Showcase until made it to the US and I took DD7 in to see it since it has Ben Franklin....she loved it it was one of her favorite things we did. DH and DD4 ended up going to Morocco and having a snack and coming back to the US to wait for us. Once we joined up again DD7 was hungry so we stopped in France for fruit, cheese and pastries'. :-9 Then we went back to our room. The girls had reservations at the Cubs Den for the evening. DD7 ended up totally freaking out worried that she wouldnt know anyone worried she wouldnt have any fun. This was even after she met the CM who was going to be watching them. We took both girls to Cubs Den ready to stay as long as it was needed to make sure DD7 was ok with it...we gave her our cel phone number and told her to call if she wanted and then she said she was ok for us to leave. DD4 was pushing us out the door long before then. Let me say the people at the Cubs Den were great they really worked at making DD7 feel ok with staying. DH and I took the boat to the Contemporary and went up to CA Grill we had PS for 5:30, but we were early so we had drinks and after a bit I called over to the Cubs Den and talked to one of the CMs and she said DD7 had already made a friend and was having a great time. So DH went on with our evening. We got a window seat which was nice. DH had a flat bread with salmon to start with and I had a sushi sampler. Then DH had an entree of sushi and I had a seared tuna which was really good. For dessert I had the creme brulee and DH was going to have some sorbet until this little story happened. DH asked what type of tea they had (he is a bit of a tea snob/punk) and the CM said they had everything....Christian asked for Jasmine Pearls...the CM said she didnt know if they had that and asked him for a second choice....he made a second choice....I cant remember what it was....she came back and said they had the Jasmine Pearls, but it was a $10 tea and was that ok...DHs jaw dropped to the floor and he said it was ok...he never thought they would have it....to top it off she brought it out in the correct type to pot to brew it in...a cast iron tea pot...DH was so happy with his tea he canceled his sorbet order which the CM did without a problem. After dinner we went to the Magic Kingdom...just to ride Space Mountain, but of course it was when the parade was so it was very hard to get around....in hind sight we should have just taken the train around...oh well we will know that next time. It was DHs first time on Space Mountain and he had a great time. After Space Mountain we saw that Carousel of Progress was open so did that and then we went back to get the girls. DD4 was sound a sleep and DD7 was nearly a sleep. It turns out they both had a ball and want to do it again.
Feb 16 We ate breakfast in our room and went to Sea World....DD4 hated Sea World and the only thing I could get her to like was the horses over by the free beer. DD7 loves whales, dolphins and orcas so she was in her place and loved getting to see the new baby orca (three weeks old when we were that) DH took DD7 to see all the sea mammals she wanted and I took DD4 to see the horses and wander around because she fell asleep in the stroller. We ended up meeting up at Shamus Happy Harbor (the kids play area)....we lost both kids in that damnable thing. DH and I have talked next time...he is taking DD7 to Sea World so she can have her fill of sea mammals, but DD4 and I are doing something else. After Sea World we went back to VWL and rented two mouseboats and then caught a boat to Chef Mickeys. It was our first time going to Chef Mickeys and we all loved it and it is a must do for trips in our future....it really made up for the lame day at Sea World. After eating at Chef Mickeys we had no place to go so we went to the Monorail to have a ride and we asked if we could ride up front and we were able to and since we got the Monorail that was based out of the CR we were able to ride around the whole loop and that was so cool...both DD asked later in the trip if we could do that again...we told them only once per trip to be fair to other people who would like to ride up front.
Feb 17 This was a down day. The girls had Adventures in Cooking at the Grand Floridian at 9:45am. DD7 did this when she was 4 and really wanted DD4 to do it now she was old enough so they were both excited to go. Also on this day DH suprised me with a birthday present of two spa treatments at the Grand Floridian Spa....a Milk Bath and French Manicure for the time period the girls were doing their thing...before dropping the girls off they took me over to the Spa (the girls were in on the secret) he checked me in and paid for everything since he didn't want me to know how much he was spending....he told the spa CM months before when it he made the reservations that it was for his wife Tandy and when he paid and checked in he gave them my name again....but some how they still got the name Christina (Christian is my DHs name) as the person getting the spa treatment....so I was sitting enjoying my herbal tea waiting for my name to be called...well after an hour and my name wasn't called I asked someone and it turns out they were looking for a Christina....I heard them calling for a Christina...but I knew that wasn't me...they never put a last name with the Christina so I didn't think twice about it. Well...by the time it was figured out that they had taken Christian's name off the credit card and made it female....it was too late for my milk bath (or so I thought)....they moved me right into my French Manicure and we did that the Manicure person gave me a parfian dip for free on along with the Manicure because of the screw up...Stephine the Manager came in and said they credited back DHs card for the bath....and then she was asking did I need to get back for anything....I told her I needed to be at the other side of the Grand Floridian when my girls came out of Adventures in Cooking so I could see their parade where they show off what they cooked and get to taste what they cooked...she went away. When Stephanie came back she said we could fit in a short version of the bath and she would personally drive me over to where they have the parade after the Adventures in Cooking...so I took the bath got changed....then I went out to the front desk in the spa and Stephanie was there ready to give me a ride across the resort and with a gift bag (worth at least $100) of spa supplies....I figured that after doing all that they wouldn't credit back the cost of the bath...but getting home and reviewing the online AMEX bill...they still credited Christian back the cost of the bath......so I got my bath and my manacure...plus a paraffin dip, a gift bag of stuff and made it back to see my girls present their cooking after their adventures in cooking....so the spa staff knew they messed up and they really took care of thing really well. I left really happy and looking forward to being able to go there again.
When the girls came out of Adventures in Cooking they were wearing hand painted aprons (like they did when DD7 did it 3 years ago), but this time they had really cute chef hats with Mickey ears on them...it was so cute and they made Mud and Bugs (chocolate pudding and gummie worms and bugs) they had a great time doing it and want to do it again.
We had PS for the Grand Floridian tea...but nobody felt like it so we headed back to VWL and we decided to try the Whispering Canyon Cafe...we had tried it once before on our trip 3 years ago and wasnt very pleased with it but DH was having a BBQ craving so we thought we would give it a shot. I was sure it was going to be a long wait since we didnt have a PS, but we walked right up and got seated. The food was good we ended up having a really great time. DH, DD7 and I had the skillet thing and DD4 had mac and cheese. DD4 neighed for the microphone and for a certificate for doing it, so she thought the place was cool place to eat. So we might give it a third chance because it is one for two at this point. That night we went over to Ft. Wilderness for Chip and Dales campfire sing-a-long...we made smores and watched the short before the full length movie and headed back to VWL....we were able to get a bus that took us right the frontdoor of the VWL which was good because DD4 was falling asleep.
Feb 18 We had breakfast in the room and headed out to Disney Studios. The first thing we did was get a fastpass for Little Mermaid and then we went over to Playhouse Disney and watched that show. We just got out of Playhouse Disney when it was time for our Fastpass at Little Mermaid. The girls loved both shows. After Little Mermaid I went to get fastpasses for RnR and ToT...I got two for each. Then we met back up at 50s Prime Time Cafe....DH and the girls were late it turns out they found under the hat where you can make custom pins. DH made one for me and he had it engraved 10th Anniversary (we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary this year) and DD4 made one, but DD7 didnt have time. Lunch at 50s Prime Time was awesome as always. I love that place. DD7 was very nervous of playing the game as we called it and the CM picked up on it and she left our table alone but we watched the show at other tables. After that we went back to the hat so DD7 could make a custom pin. Just after she was done with that characters came out one of them being Mulan. We got right in line to see Mulan...and Mulan remembered DD7 from a few days before at the Princess Breakfest...you should have see DD7 face light up she was so happy her favorite princess remember her and Mulan invited her to stay and come see her in the parade. At this point DD4 had fallen asleep in the stroller so I took DD7 to the Muppets 3D while DH hung out with DD4 while she slept. DD7 and I loved the Muppets 3D. After the show we met up with DD4 and DH at the tattoo cart because DD7 wanted a tattoo of Baby Belle...I left her in the care of DH when I ran off to do my RnR fastpasses. This was the first time I have been on RnR and boy I love that thing I could have/would have gone on it again and again but didnt. After RnR I went over to ToT...well I did it twice...I am not sure I will do it again until one of my DDs wants to do it....I am scared of hights and ToT really played into that fear. While I was having a ball on my own DH and the girls saw the parade and went to the Belle show. After that we met up and went back to our room and had dinner and then went to Magic Kingdom to watch the parade and then the fireworks. DD7 got really worried about the fireworks so DH took her back to VWL, but DD4 and I stayed and watched them and really enjoyed them.
Feb 19 Our last day at WDW...we told the girls we would do anything they wanted this day. We were expecting that they would want to go to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot...nope...they wanted to go swimming, rent mouseboats, and have more pony rides. So that is what we did. We did make a quick run to Downtown Disney so I could have Silhouettes made of the girls...I love how Disney has the double ones so they humored me and we did that. We had lunch at the Roaring Forks. Swam....rented mouseboats...rode ponies...and drank smoothies in the sun....a perfect end to an awesome vacation.
Feb 20 We sent our box full of stuff back home from the frontdesk of WL they were very helpful and even called our home phone and left us a message with our boxs tracking number. We then went to Western Sizzlin for breakfast (our favorite off site cheap breakfast place in Orlando). Then we went to the train station returned our rental and got on the train and headed home. I was sure because the trip down was so smooth that we were going to have problems on the way back. We had no problems and we made it back to Portland Maine by 8:10pm on Feb 21st and it was snowing...so all we wanted to do was turn around and go back to WDW.
