I just wanted to thank everyone who helped us decide where to stay. We decided on Sunset Lakes because dh could fish in the two lakes found on the property. He only fished at one lake and is thrilled. He caught his largest bass ever. It was 25 inches and he was excited. In fact between this and the fact that he caught fish in the ocean from shore has cemented a future trip for us. He's not crazy about WDW but the fishing will "lure" him back.:rotfl2:

We stayed in a 3 br 2 bath house with a private pool. It was clean and we were happy with the extra space. No one was tripping over anyone else and I didn't feel the need to constantly clean up after everyone because there was a place for all of their stuff. We ate or prepared breakfast for the short car ride every morning and even made it back for mid-day breaks a few times. The ride to the parks was short. We usually left around 7:45-7:50am and made it to rope drop with plenty of time to spare (usually arrived no later than 8:10). In fact for MK and Epcot we were some of the first in the park.

There is a big strip mall close to the community that has a grocery store, an Outback Steakhouse, Fridays, ice cream shops, mini golf, etc. There is also a McDonalds and Walgreens very close.

So if anyone is considering this gated community, I strongly recommend it. For us it was perfect.

Thanks again to everyone here for helping us.

Can you post a link to the house you rented?

Many Diser's are always looking for what you had and I think it would be GREAT if they had a link as we so many horror stories about houses hotels etc its nice to see a good report:goodvibes

Sounds like a good time was had by all.

You also can not beat the area. We also love it.

We stayed at Sunset Lakes the first time we rented a home and had a great time. The community was nice and peaceful.

I'm so glad I came across your post....My DH sounds alot like yours!!.... The only way that I can get him to go back to WDW is to find a house where he can fish!! Can you please share with me which lake he fished on?...Also, I'm wondering if we stayed on the smaller lake, can he still fish on the large lake?..is it too far to walk? I'm sorry, i just want this to be a great experience for him so that he will want to go back:)...will you share which house it was that you stayed in? Thanks!!

Here's a map with Sunset Lakes marked on it, #16. If you click that number then zoom in you can see the layout. It's probably an easy walk. There's a gazebo and a dock on the left end of the big lake. Click on the little man on top of the zoom feature and put him on the street near the blue marker and you can get a street view. You'll have to turn the guy around so that he's pointing at the lake instead of the houses. The blue marker is pointing at the dock area.

Where did you find the rentals? This would be perfect for my husband!!! I am a Disney freak along with my kids. My husband not so much. I would love to see what is available.

This is the house we stayed at: http://www.vrbo.com/126040

Debbie replied quickly and was very helpful. When we go back in 2011 we are planning on staying here again.

As far as the fishing goes, we were closer to the smaller lake (right across the street) but DH always walked over to the larger lake to fish in the early morning before we were up. DH just said to tell you that the smaller lake is no good. There is more fish in the bigger lake. There is a big dock and you can walk all the way around. One morning he got up and went to Port Canaveral. He went to Jetty Park ($4-5 but no license is required). If your DH wants help with pier fishing at the ocean, just ask. DH loves to talk "fishing." We ate lunch when he got back and headed to an afternoon and evening at Epcot and DTD. It was perfect. The kids swam while he was fishing and were ready to go when he got back. A really busy day for him but he'll do anything to fish!

That house looks like it is one of the few that doesn't have a lake view. We rented a wonderful home from Florida Leisure the first time and we had a great time. Fond memories of that vacation but we now stay on Cumbrian Lakes as it suits us better. Fishing is no problem, 4 big lakes to fish in!
