I was a little anxious about this hotel after reading the various trip reports before I left, so I was prepared for the worst but hoping for the best. I loved this resort. Thought it was beautiful in every way. The Lobby and pool area were really nice, very tropical. I had seen photos of the rooms before we left and felt a little disappointed, they looked very dark and small. The rooms were actually quite nice. Furnishings were dark, which I normally don't like but the room was tastefully decorated and had a lot of nice little details (loved the lamps) I also thought I would feel claustrophobic with the inside entrance and no balcony but that wasn't the case. The window is actually very large and we had a great view of the pool and lake (room 1610), perfect. The walk to citywalk was not bad. In the evening it was a beautiful walk, but during the heat of the day, it sometimes felt like too much.

I had read all the trip reports before leaving so expected some problems...and got them. We were traveling with my son and had requested poolview connecting rooms. Three times I called back and made the same request. Did we get connecting rooms? no. As a matter of fact, they did not even put us on the same floor. He was on 3 and we were on 6. Also, while we had a great view of the pool and lake, he had room 1349 which was not pool view. When I called the front desk I was told there were no connecting rooms available and when I complained about his view I was told that the $109 rate was "water view" not pool view. He described his "waterview" as a puddle. It was just a small area of water and cars leaving the resort. They did offer to move him to another room on the 1st floor but he decided to stay where he was.

We had the same experience with the parking as everyone else. As a previous poster said my husband never wanted to leave for fear of not getting a spot when we returned. We did not receive our Loews perks ($109 entertainment rate) and my daughter did not even receive her welcome gift. We did receive the newspaper everyday though.

We only ate twice at the resort because the prices were outrageous. Once hubby and I had two cokes and one shrimp cocktail by the pool -$20.00. We also had breakfast at the Island Restaurant one day. We ordered off the menu but realized afterward we were better off just getting the buffet @ $15.00 p.p because we ended up spending almost that much for two orders of eggs, bacon and toast. My husband wanted to eat there for dinner but I refused at $25.00 p.p. I forgot that we also got coffee and danish twice in the Lobby area, again extremely expensive.

Do not make phone calls from this resort. I had called home to NY once to a friend who was catsitting. I stayed on the phone for 15 min and was charged almost $34 with tax!!!! That really ruined my morning. I decided it was my own fault, I should have expected that seeing how expensive everything was here. At checkout my husband complained about the parking and they did refund half so I didn't feel so bad about the $34 phone charge. There were also others at the desk complaining, I heard one woman complaining about being charged for incoming calls.

That's about all I can think of right now. My brain is a little foggy since we had a 20 hour drive and just returned home at 5 am. I did love this resort and would stay here again for a good price. Any question s I'd be happy to answer.

I know what you mean about the phones! I travel to FL often for business, and I always bring along my cell phone to make calls. And yes - they charge the same rates for incoming as they do outgoing. The only calls that are reasonable are local calls, but since they keep on chaning area codes, a call that was local a few months ago could be long-distance now!

Did you have any extraneous charges on your bill?

How were the parks? Were they crowded?

I think $25 p.p. at the Islands Dining Room is on the low side. More like $40 p.p. and that's before drinks!

Still, the food is excellent! If you're looking for a "special treat" kind of meal while at Universal Orlando, I'd say this is a pretty good choice.

Sorry, I meant $25 pp for the dinner buffet. My husband was dying to eat here but from what I had read on here before I left the buffet didn't sound like my cup of tea.

dcookies-- My bill was fine except for that $34.00 charge. The parks were not bad, we had been to The Magic Kingdom earlier in the week and it was a disaster --hot and so crowded that we didn't really enjoy ourselves. Islands of adventure was crowded, but not as bad and with FOTL we got a lot done in little time. Universal was great, not crowded at all.
