We returned from our first Aulani trip a week ago. We had an ocean view studio that actually overlooked the pool area and the ocean. :) When we had the sliding door closed, we heard almost nothing from the pool area. It was so nice. It was a very heavy door! We also didn't hear any noise from the halls, or the surrounding rooms. The only thing we heard was some muffled noise from above once in a while.

I am curious if we were just lucky, or if all of the rooms are so soundproof?

I was at the Poly in Feb. of this year, and the soundproofing there is terrible. So, I was pleasantly surprised!

We got back a week ago too. We had a 2 bar villa on the ground floor across from the adult pool. The only sounds we heard was some noise from above and what seemed like constant muffled water running from within the walls. We never heard any noise from outside or the hallways.

Agree that the rooms at Aulani are very well soundproofed. It may have helped that our unit (901) was at the very end of the hallway which limited the amount of foot traffic noise that we might have been exposed to.

We called the sliding door the "magic door". We could enjoy the sights and sounds of the pool area, then it would magically disappear when we closed it.

I do wonder about the rooms on the third floor, right next to the shops and lobby. There was no carpet on the floor of the hallway outside those rooms and there was always a lot of traffic. Hopefully they are really well soundproofed!

that was our experience as well with our 1-bedroom villa facing the Starlit Hui lawn in the ewa tower. 1671. no noise from the outside or the hallways, and we were the first room you walk past after you come out from the elevators and turn left.

Same for us! I thought we were just lucky. We were at the end of a hallway of the ewa tower. We didn't hear anything at all in 7 days! We were at Turtle Bay right before that and we could hear the conversation in the room next door.

Ocean view room on the 16th floor. During the day it was nice and quiet. But at night I could hear the music from the 'Olelo Room from 6:30-10. No chance of going to sleep early. It was way too loud.

mathgeek, was that true even with the heavy sliding door closed?

Was also on the 16th floor in Ewa tower but over looking one of the lawn areas. (where hula lessons were) One of the nights there was an event going on and we could hear it in our room even with the door closed. I called front desk to ask how late it would be going on she said done by 10. Fortunately they all went to "play bingo" at 9:30. Couldn't quite figure out what the event was. Also we had the noisiest family the last 3 nights. We heard the door banging and slamming for hours and could hear them inside the room. The other 9 nights we didn't hear a sound.

Unfortunately, yes. The door was closed and locked.

This was a bit disappointing to me since it seemed like the timeline for activity was about an hour different here than any other Disney summer trip I've done (DCL in the Bahamas, HHI, VB, WDW). With sunset fairly early around 7:15, people stayed out a bit after that, but then it seemed like things were very active earlier in the morning starting between 6-6:30 am with people at the pool, in the lobby, and eating breakfast at Ulu Cafe.

that's interesting. when we were there in April the pools didn't open until 8 am, so there weren't a whole lot of activities in that area. makes sense to have summer hours a little earlier, but noise at 6-6:30 is too early on vacation!

The pools still didn't open until 8 am, but there were a lot of people out and about quite early. Ulu started serving breakfast at 6:30, 'Ama 'Ama at 7. Kalepa's Store was open at 7. The first fitness activities started at 6. And people weren't in the pools before 8, but there were a lot of chairs already occupied before 8.

But no noise through the door in the morning, mathgeek?

We've been twice. Both times we had the first oceanview two bedroom in the long Ewa tower facing the pool so not far from the Oleo Room. Our first trip, the door was truly magical. That time we were perhaps on the 7th floor? Second trip, I remember the music bothering me some nights. We were perhaps 11th floor that trip. I suppose I should have mentioned the noise to someone but did not. It wouldn't take much to turn down the volume.

We had no problem with noise from the 14th floor last week, ocean view overlooking the valley, in the Ewa tower, section closest to the Oleo room. We could hear it clearly with the sliding door opened, but nothing with the door closed. They are V E R Y heavy sliding doors! We also the first room after the elevators and didn't hear anyway hallway noise either. I do sleep with earplugs in, but no one else in my family does and they didn't mention hearing anything either.

We were there last week and had a room across from the pool slides. No noise from outside, but I could often hear the people in the room above ours.

Interesting you should ask... we had a room exactly there:
A 1br on the lobby BEFORE the Ewa elevators. Basically all the post lobby Ewa traffic if taking any elevator would walk past our room on the wood floors. Only 4 rooms there total.

Relative good news though is that it was surprisingly pretty quiet. Could faintly hear some very loud heels and once in a while screeching kids running to/from the main areas. I was initially a bit bummed to get that room but as we settled in and saw it was not too loud, it became a bit awesome too. Steps from the stores and lobby and parking; felt special actually without elevator waits or hallway walks.

We were on the 8th floor of the Ewa wing overlooking the lawn and it was pretty noisy even with the door closed. There were special events taking place for several nights on the lawn plus the Starlit Hui and movie night. We were not happy and could not enjoy evenings out on the lanai because of all the events.

No noise in the morning. I probably could've slept half the day in the quiet and dark with the curtains closed, but my internal body clock never did quite make the full transition to Hawaii time, so I was up early every day.

There was one night that the weather was bad so the singing took place inside. That was a very nice night for me.

All of this said, I do not sleep well with noise. Electrical Water Pageant, Wishes, Fantasmic, Illuminations...all of these keep me up depending on where I'm staying.

Sadly, our room was not quiet. We were on the fourth floor overlooking the Oleo lounge stage. It was nice to hear the music when we were on the balcony, but when we wanted to go in before bedtime (yes, East coaster here, so we went to bed fairly early), the music was sometimes so loud we couldn't hear the TV. Yes we did turn the TV off and listen to the music a time or two, but that didn't help us sleep. That sounds terrible to complain about being serenaded by lovely Hawaiian music, and I'm not really complaining, just saying that our room wasn't quiet. By the end of the week, we were staying up later so we enjoyed the music more.
