We just got back from a 2 week trip to Florida and spent last Wednesday 3rd May at Universal Studios followed by IOA. We would normally spend longer at these parks but my senior parents were with us and so we snuck off for the day. We will be back anyway in December and have been to the parks several times before so this was a chance to do our favourites and DH to do some new stuff.
We arrived at about 8.40 and were parked in King Kong 107. We got to the gates of Universal Studios and were in the park by 8.50. We headed straight for the Mummy and there was only one other couple on with us, no line at all in fact they were hurrying us into the car. DH hadn't done this ride and I couldn't remember all the details of the ride so it was fun although DH wasn't as keen.
Our next visit was to DH's favourite (and one of mine) Men In Black. The park was like a ghostown, it was like having our own private park. We rode twice but totally forgot about the red button. We went to ride a 3rd time but it had broken down do we decided to leave it.
Neither of us like Back to the Future so we decided to go and save ET. We were the only 2 on this ride again! ET was one of my favourite movies when I was a child so this is always a must do for me.
Next we went to do Shrek 4D which I had seen before but was a first for DH. People were starting to flow into the park (it was about 10am) and of course Shrek is right there when you arrive but we only had a short wait to get into the preshow area. We were about to be let in when they announced we would have to wait as someone had been sick in the previous show. This was our longest wait of the day but was still only about 15 minutes or so.
After Shrek we left US as I wanted to get over to IOA as I wanted to eat at Mythos after hearing good things about the food there. It was about 11am so we made a reservation at the dining cart for 12 noon at Mythos. My absolute favourite Spiderman was first on my list and was posting a 20 minute wait. DH didn't want to ride as he doesn't like the drop effect so I jumped in the single rider line and got on without any wait at all. Next up was Jurassic Park which I had only done once before and really liked second time around. Duelling Dragons was closed so we got to Mythos at around 11.50 and were seated straight away. I liked the setting of the restaurant and we had a good view of the Hulk. We both had tortilla soup which was one of the nicest things we had to eat on the whole trip. I then had a fried chicken wrap which was OK but not really to my taste and DH had the risotto which that day was shrimp and lobster which he said was very good. I would definitely eat here again but would choose something different.
Next through to Seuss Landing and the Cat in the Hat. I wasn't sure about going on this straight after lunch but the spinning was fine, again no wait at all. Then over to Hulk which again had no wait at all so I went on twice. It was now about 1pm and we decided to leave for an afternoon at the pool and some shopping.
It really was a flying visit to do our favourites but we had a packed 2 week itinerary and didn't feel the need to do all the rides and shows on this particular trip. I wasn't expecting the parks to be overly busy but they were both much much quieter than I expected. I wondered if maybe the fact that they have taken away the free Universal Express has put people off going
I wasn't complaining though, and we had a great morning
