Our vacation begins soon and although i am very excited, I am worried sick about how our 1 year old himalayan will do left by herself for the week we are away. She is underfoot every moment, sleeping with us and even watching us bathe---I know she would be miserable in any sort of pet hotel, but sooo lonely at home by herself--- anyone have any ideas or similar feelings...

I leave the tv on for our pets, and have my mom come visit a few hours a day. I'm figuring you have someone to check in on her, maybe they can stay for a visit? Cats are pretty resilient, I'm sure she'll be ok with some type of human contact every day.

I left my dog and sisters dog with a local animal boarding, was worried the whole time we were away for 10days, the only thing that made me happy was that the two dogs were together. Still worried about upcoming trip in Sept for 12 days!

If you don't have someone to come in and check on your cat, look into a pet sitter. The nice thing about cats are that you can leave out food, they use a litter box, and sleep most of the time, so a sitter would only need to come every few days (more if you want).

Our cat knows when we are going on a trip. He gets in our suitcases as we pack! He is always on our bed or in our laps, but I secretly think he enjoys the peace a quiet when the kids are gone. When we come home, he is at the door meowing before we even unlock it. Then he"s glued to us for the next week. And when we are home, he is usually sleeping on a chair or in the closet most of the day.

So I wouldn't worry too much. Get some new toys for him to play with while you're gone, and make sure to bring home some from you trip. There was a little pet store in DTD!

Cats miss you, but they deal with your absence very well and are happier in their own environment at home. When we go on vacation I have someone come every day or every other day to take care of both of them. They lie to lay on my bed in my spot so before we go I put my night cloth that I worethat night on the bed. It has my scent and they can cuddle with that. Hey are always fine and happy to see us when we get back!

We are boarding our dog because he's too much work to ask a relative to do it, and we know he loves interacting with the other dogs there, but, we always leave our cat home alone. We ask someone (a cousin usually) to come to the house every day or at least every other day to check on her food and water. As much as I'm sure she will miss us, I am positive that she will thoroughly enjoy the time without the dog. We've done this a few times now and she's always been fine, and greeted us when she feels like it (as though we've never been gone).

We've stopped in a few times a week to check in our friends' cats. The cats are all over us when we visit so I can't imagine them being alone the entire time. :sad1: Do you have a trusted neighbor or friend who can stop in for a little while at least once or twice during the week that you're gone? You could also ask your vet if any of their techs do house visits for vacationing families.
