I apologize for the length of this, but I really wanted to share....
My DW, DD7.5 and I are going this August 15-20. We made a room only reservation with our AAA discount, which is saving us almost $200 on our trip.
Friends of ours came back recently, having used the Dining Plan and we really started thinking about it. We had made PSs for every evening and looked at the list of restaurants and all of our PSs were on the DP list.
We looked at the menus for the places we were going to eat and estimated what our out of pocket cost would be. Since you cannot use AAA on a MYW package, at least through Disney, we would only have saved about $100 on the Dining Plan. We felt that this amount was not significant enough to tie us down.
Take this thought and now look at what our typical touring plan was....Both my girls sleep a little later, so I expect we won't be hitting parks until about 9:30/10 or so. We had planned afternoon swim/rest time, followed by our anywhere from 5-6:30 PS dinners. But with this timing, and possible lines, we might have days where we wouldn't have much under our belt before heading back to the resort.
So, since we still want to have relaxing evenings, and generally plan not to head back into parks after dinner (would make it hard for my DD the next day anyway), we now have done the following:
1) Cancel our PSs (for now) for all but our Cinderella b-fast and Fantasmic package on our last day/night)
2) Still get to the parks, whenever.
3) Stay longer than originally planned, anywhere from 4-5:30ish. Time all depends on everyone's energy level.
4) If really hungry, either get a counter service dinner (saving us time/and a little money), or head back to the resort (PO RS).
5) once back at the resort, have a later Swim/Rest time. Then consider dinner at the POR food court, get pizza, or get sandwiches from DTD.
In the long run, this strategy gets us a few things:
A) A little more time in the parks for my DD first time since being over the 48" mark and having a lot more rides at her disposal
B) Should save a little money
C) Still gives us the necessary swim/rest time, albeit at the "end" of our day. POR also has a lot of fun stuff in this regards for us, boats, peddle carts, etc.....
Can't wait to go......Don't know if I have anything obviously lime-green, but hope to see some of you there......
