sorry, i'm just a proud new kind-of-mommy! :cloud9: my sister's roommate at college almost ran this little guy over and they picked him up and took him home (he's a stray about 8 weeks old). there were 3 of them, but the other 2 were fighting and they couldn't get them. we've never had a cat before. ollie seems to be very good so far, he's basically slept since we've got him (he even slept almost the whole time at the vet!). anyone have any great advice about raising a kitty?

Well I'm not going to be the one to start the "declaw or not declaw" debate. :rolleyes1 Ollie is a cutie. :thumbsup2

oh we've already decided not to declaw, too many could be issues (like how he can get mean), we'll just keep his tootsie nails nice and trim! we've also basically trained him to use a berber rug to scratch on. i wouldn't want this sweet little guy to become a mean kitty!

Congrats! He's a handsome fellow! Reminds me of the first cat we had when I was growing up. No advice except to remind you that he's the boss now, get used to it! :)

We don't declaw our cats either. Our older cat, we can't touch his claws. . we didn't try to clip his when he was little so he freaks out (and he's a BIG strong cat) My 2 year old cat though we started clipping his claws from the very beginning so he's very easy. So clip them regularly now so he gets used to it and doesn't fight you later.

Also, you might want to try and have a lot of people in and out of the house now (well, once he gets settled) so he doesn't get skiddish around strangers. We never had a lot of visitors, so both cats go running when they hear someone walking to the door.

He's such a cutie - looks like it'll be difficult to NOT spoil him.

So cute! Not much advice needed for cats. They pretty much do whatever they want! Just love on him as much as you can! He's a sweetie!

We have three orange tabbies (our baby Noah looks just like yours!). They are a very sweet breed of kittie. Have some things for them to play with...ping pong balls are good, ours like to paw the flaps on an empty box and when they are worn out from that, they climb in the box and sleep. Keep windowsills clear for them to look out at the world. Our boys are all indoor cats and perfectly happy.
Enjoy him!

Awwwwww, little Ollie. He's so cute!!! Just give him lots of love. And, as eclectics said, he's the boss now. He'll have you eating out of his paws in no time. :teeth:

What a cutie! :thumbsup2 We've got a recent addition to our house, a stray that no one's claiming so far, and he's declawed. :sad2: However, since he seems to know that he's got no weapons on his paws, he's learned to nip at us instead. Little bugger.

Congrats on saving a stray, the world is a better place for it! :)

What a lucky little kitty! I had a stray once too, but she was too old to socialize properly :(. She was skittish the entire 16 years (!) I had her.

Buy that little boy a toy to play with. My kitties like a toy called a "Cat Dancer". It's a thick wire with cardboard at each end and the wire bounces.

He's a real cutie! I don't want to scare you, but did the vet check for FeLV (feline leukemia) during his checkup? The reason I ask is that you mention that your Ollie is sleeping all the time, and I had a kitten years ago that acted the same way and was finally diagnosed with FeLV :guilty:

Hopefully Ollie is just a "laid back" kitty! :goodvibes

Adorable! We've rescued some cats too and they are the best! Just make sure to get that little guy to the vet asap! Have fun!

He is such a beautiful, beautiful cat. You will have so much fun with him.
You will love being a cat mommy.
When you have a hard day at work and you come home, you will look at that little face and feel instantly better.

yep, we got the works checked on him. he has tapeworms (he got a shot to get rid of them), ear mites (got the meds for that too) and he had fleas, but they're gone now. the vet said he tested negative for leukemia and aids, so we're very lucky with that, since i know it's very hard to take care of.

Maybe you can teach him how to walk on hind legs:

What a cutie!!! We just brought home an 8 week old kitten on Sunday. SHe's adorable, playful and cuddly. Of course my two cats don't think that of her yet :p

Just love him and enjoy him. Kittens are so fun to have around :)
