Anyone know what is going on with Krispy Kreme? We had one open up here in the Detroit area a couple of years ago, and today when I went by, it's all shuttered up and closed.

Anyone have any info on others in the area closing? :sad1:

I heard that Krispy Kreme was having financial problems due to over expansion.

They closed two stores here in Mass, trying to save money is what they are saying.

I don't know where your at in Michigan but the two in my area ( on Gratiot and Van ****) have been closed for quite a while. We have family that live in Illinois the Krispy Kreme by their house is almost always lined around the building, especially when the HOT light is on. The ones here were never that busy.
I guess Detroit just wasn't ready for Krispy Kreme :confused3

I have to tell you, I don't see the appeal of KK donuts. That's just me though.

I think part of their problem is that they over-expanded too quickly, the novelty wore off, and now some of the stores are dying.

I think the fad has run its course. It is no longer the "in thing."

I agree.

And with so many people working out, jogging ect, (like me!) it's better to snack on grapes, like i'm doing right now while DISing! :)

GASP....donuts are always the "in thing" in my household!

There's been one within 3 miles of me for several years. I've only been there 2 or 3 times, but it seems like someone is always bringing them to work. :)

Ok...I'm going to have to put my flame proof vest on here, but, I never got the Krispy Creme fad thing.

Their donuts are a heart attack waiting to happen. I can't possibly be ok with a sugar coated donut soaked in more sugar and then coated again.

I'm no health food nut by any means...heck..I have high sodium due to my love of shellfish (i told the doctor if he tries to make me stop eating shellfish, he'll have an anorexic on his hands, as shellfish is about one of the only things I enjoy eating)

I just get a cavity every time i drive by a Krispy Creme. To me (please don't take offense people who love their donuts) a sugar glazed donut topped with more sugar is NOT appetizing.

I'm glad their 15 minutes of fame is up. Bring back Dunkin' donuts and munchkins!!! lol

We have one by us, but nobody is ever there :sad2: . I'm sure it will close soon too.

One sure way to turn me off to something is to make it a fad, but we tried Krispee Kremes in California a few years ago and absolutely LOVED them. I've only had them a few times since, at the airport in Charlotte, I think, and the boxed ones at Winn-Dixie near Disney, but I haven't gone out of my way to go to the one maybe 10 miles away from home...not even sure exactly where it is, and don't WANT to know, because I do NOT want to be tempted. They're a nice treat, tho. I'd hate to see them fizzle out completely. IMHO, they're better than Dunkin' Donuts, which is nearby, but we rarely get them either.

We had one near me and when it opened, cars were lined up forever to get in.
Now, it's closed up. I think in my neck of the woods Dunkin Donuts is king. That place is a license to print money as my hubby says lol. :thumbsup2

Well, if it helps, they supposedly have way fewer grams of fat than a bagel. But the sugar content has got to be thru the roof! But I love 'em...them and Fruit Loops - do you know if you crush and snort fruitloops the sugar works faster??? Doesn't work with KKs though.

This one was at 8 Mile and Grand River. I wasn't a big fan of them, but DS used to love stopping there on the way to LTU in the morning!

We have one of the first ones in west Knoxville. According to my father-in-law it was built in the mid-40s, right after WW2. When I was in college, I remember me and another guy would drive down from UT campus for the 5:00am hotlight when our design labs were pulling all-nighters (we called 'em 'hotlight runs'). They're awesome when they're piping hot.

"Our local Krispy Kreme closed!"

the HORROR....the HORROR...!

 :guilty: :faint: :sad1:

We have a couple around here, and I don't see them lasting much longer. Tim Horton's is so much better. The donuts are better, the coffee is better, the selection is better. KK doesn't have a prayer in Horton's territory. :)
