I tend to talk alot, so my trip report will be LOOONG, I'm sure. So here we go............this is my 1st time (with a trip report) :teeth: so be gentle!!

Cast of Characters
Me: Kristen, 28 yrs old DW airline reservations agent, Disney lover and obsessive trip planner. Most like the Fairy Godmother but with a little Maleficent mixed in
DH: Dathan, 25 yrs old Power line worker, likes WDW but loves the food, ride weenie, along for the ride. Most like the Beast (Growls but is actually a good guy)
DD: Shealynn 9 yrs old, Disney fanatic like her mom, 2nd in command of trip planning, vividly remembers 1st trip and has been begging since to go back. Most like Belle
DD: Kayleigh 3 yrs old. Was born exactly 9 months (- 2 days early) from our last WDW trip. She is our own little souvenir. Anxiously wanting to see the princesses. Most like Tinkerbelle.

Pre trip report
I’ve been planning this trip seriously since Oct or Nov since I could make ADR’s in late December. I knew that we couldn’t actually book until our tax return came in so I did ADr’s in Dec and waited anxiously until March when I made the deposit. Wanted ALSMO but it was already full for our dates so chose POP instead. Booked thru TMFL Travel and everything went swimmingly until I didn’t receive final trip documents. To be brief, a mistake occurred and WDW had us down for July 10-17 not JUNE 10-17! So Jessica at TMFL straightens it all out and in the end we were upgraded to the Animal Kingdom Lodge since at this point POP was also full. So out of misunderstanding came pixie dust. I started packing ridiculously early so there really wasn’t much to do but wait and wait and wait some more the last few days before the trip. But finally the big day arrives!!!!!

this sounds like a sweet lil' princess story.

* when i read others taking their daughters for the first time,
i re-live our lil princess first trip. [ it was all about Ariel ].

p.s...great begining being upgraded. that's :bounce: !

oh, boy!...[your commercial one of my disney favorite! don't
you just love the things hitting home?! :mickeyjum ]

Wake up at 3:30 am for the drive. I work for an airline and had toyed with the idea of flying standby, but the flights have been full for a while. DH hates to fly also and really wanted to drive. We live 65 miles southwest of Atlanta so it really wasn’t going to be a horrible drive anyway. We packed the car the day before so all we really had to do was get dressed, get the kids in the car since they slept in short and tanks the night before and go. Everything went smoothly and we left home at 4:00 am exactly. Stopped once 15 miles from home to fill up and get ice in the cooler. Kids stayed awake for about an hour and didn’t wake again until breakfast. We stopped one more time for gas and for breakfast and gas in South GA around 9:30 am. Stopped again at the FL Welcome Center for juice, brochures and a potty break. DH was watching the news and called me over. There’s a tropical storm called Alberto on the way. This is the very 1st week of hurricane season. Because of DH’s work (power lines) and the fact that he has been gone every summer for the last 4 years because of a tropical storm or hurricane I tried very hard to avoid hurricane season. But because of DD’s school and other DD’s birthday I tried to book out trip as early as possible in the summer. October during DD’s school break is out. I’ve had to cancel at least 4 trips because of DH’s work, weather etc so I finally gave up on any trip during school break.

So, DH says “Maybe I should call my boss” I say” No you are not. You are on VACATION! They will be just fine without you. If they need you on the 17th then they can swing by and pick you up at the resort before we leave. Not a day sooner.”

Now, don’t flame me here. I’m very proud of my DH. My dad has been in the power line business since I was born and DH since we’ve been married, so I’m used to watching the Weather Channel non stop, and him being gone because of storms. He works hard and plays a very important role in the aftermath and recovery of a storm. BUT…for the 1st time in 7 years of marriage I put my foot down.

Needless to say, DH doesn’t call boss. He does however sneak in a call to my Dad as soon as we get to the resort to let him know we made is. Yeah, right. He’s getting the lowdown on Alberto. Anyway, we continue to WDW and everything is fine until we get on the FL Turnpike. We’re waiting in line to pay the toll and the air conditioner dies. The fans been making noises for weeks and I’ve been begging DH for weeks to check it. I even take it by to have it looked at but can’t get worked in any time the week before we leave. So, we turn it off and on; fiddle with the coolness levels, anything and everything to deny that it’s broke. Nope, it’s broke. I tell DH “I told you so” and am grateful we’re almost there. So we roll down the windows, pay the toll and head on. I’m not letting anything ruin this trip.

We decided to take the Turnpike to 429 and then take Western way into WDW itself. Well, we get off at 429 and stop at the turnpike, where the attendant asks if we’re local or heading to WDW. WE happily tell him WDW and he tells us to turn around because the road is closed due to the wildfires that are burning near EPCOT. So we turn around, pay another toll to get back on the turnpike and take 535 to WDW the back way. The kids see the Welcome to WDW sign and start bouncing up and down in their seats. “WDW, WDW, we’re here, we’re here!!” And generally just go crazy with excitement. Finally, we pull into PO Riverside at 12:45 and park. Everybody is overjoyed to just finally be here.

Low point: Alberto, AC dying and being rerouted
High point: Seeing the kids’ faces when they spot the WDW sign; to finally get there!

Head inside to get checked in. Waited in line maybe 10 minutes. I had requested Magnolia Bend section but the CM at check in told me it would be about an hour for a room, or we could take something in Alligator Bayou immediately. I decided to take the Alligator Bayou room so we could get settled and enjoy the air conditioning. We were Assigned room 1502, building 5, 1st floor. It was a very short walk to the pool and main building. Brought in only what we needed for that night, called everyone and let them know we were there and relaxed. For all of 5 minutes until the kids start begging to go to the pool. Not the pool at PO Riverside, but Doubloon Lagoon at POFQ.They wanted to take the boat, but it was 1:30 and we had ADR’s at Rainforest Café at 5:45. So we drove over, swam for awhile, let DD 7 do the waterslide and headed back to PO Riverside. On a side note, I was so impressed with POFQ. It was absolutely beautiful, and even with all the people it still seemed peaceful and restful. I definitely want to stay at either of the PO resorts next time. :cloud9:

Back in the room, get dressed and drove over to the AK for Rainforest Café ADR. Kayleigh loved it. I was scared it would be tool loud and too dark but this was her favorite of the entire trip. She would giggle maniacally ever time the monkeys, gorillas and all the other animals sprang to life. We were seated in the back corner of the restaurant by the statue and the water fountain so it was very loud. We ordered the appetizer platter with crab dip, chicken tenders, calamari, and egg rolls. Everything was great, but the crab dip was outstanding. For dinner I ordered the shrimp platter which came with cheese and bacon wrapped shrimp, shrimp scampi and shrimp skewers .Kayleigh loves shrimp so I knew she’d help me finish it. DH ordered the Pastalaya (like jambalaya but served over pasta) Shealynn had the kids Alfredo pasta and Kayleigh had the chicken tenders, which DH actually ate because Kayleigh was eating all my shrimp. We all had soft drinks and I ordered the kids a smoothie to split. Total with tax and a 20% tip was $115. We had soo much food that we were all stuffed. We actually took pasta and a few shrimp back to the room with us because we couldn’t finish it all.

After dinner, we stopped at the room dropped off the food and headed to DD. We drove and had a horrible time finding parking. Some of the roped off lots had spaces available but they were never opened to let people in, only to let people out. After 20 minutes found a parking space finally and walked form the Pleasure Island area over to the marketplace. Went in the World of Disney and browsed. This store always overwhelms me. I could easily go broke in here. It was very crowded in here and really had a hard time keeping Kayleigh from grabbing everything in sight. Bought a few postcards, magnets and other junk. Got the kids an Icee from Goofy’s Candy kitchen, watched a magician perform for a little while and hit Mickey’s Mart. Bought some souvenirs for everyone at home. This store is not air-conditioned and it was packed so DH kept Kayleigh outside. Went outside and decided to go back to the room since both kids were whiny, hot and tired.

We had to have a talk in the car with Shealynn about not begging for every toy in sight. Several times she had stopped and asked for things that she either already had or would only play with once. She had $25 in souvenir money plus I promised they could each get a t shirt and some postcards before we left. I had already bought both girls mouse ears, autograph books, markers, a fanny pack and other little Disney stuff for Christmas, so they had plenty of stuff already. Of course, in the end they got more than we planned on but hey, it’s WDW!

High Point: Kayleigh’s reaction to the Rainforest Café, seeing POFQ
Low Point: Crowds and the heat

Excellent start ~ Can't wait to read more.

Love it!! I hate trying to wrangle kids through Downtown Disney without them getting a major case of the Gimmies!
We're staying at the POR next Sept. and cant wait!!!!!!!
Your family sounds so wonderful! Keep up the great writing

A great start, I get lost in World of Disney every time and so do the contents of my wallet,

Sunday, June 11

Our original plan was to get up at 7 am, check out at PO Riverside, head over to the AKL to register, get our keys to the world and make it to the AK by opening. We had a slight change of plans. (This ends up being the theme for the week) We walked around the resort, checked out the pool and checked out a little before 11 am. The room location we had was great, and I was a little sad because I would have loved to stay longer. Anyway, AKL here we come!!!

We pull up and gaze in awe at this huge African resort. The bongo music is playing and you are instantly transported to Africa. WOW! I think we’ll like it here. But wait, we’re not even inside the building yet. So, I take the kids and head inside while DH grabs a bell services CM and starts unloading. The kids stop to investigate the mosaic tiles imbedded outside the door of the resort; it’s in a blue circular pattern and very interesting. We head through the automatic doors and walk slowly into the lobby. This place is overwhelming. The hardwood floors gleam, the sunshine is beaming in through the huge glass wall at the other end of the lobby, there are couches and art displays scattered around the large room. My first impressions are how dark, cool, rustic, and imposing the resort is. The kids are dumbstruck. Shealynn says “Are you sure this is where we’re staying?” Yes. “For a week?” Yes. “This is gonna be sooo cool.” Little Kayleigh just says WOW! And of course, take off running to explore. I chase her down, and we head over to the check in counter. We wait for maybe 5 minutes before we’re helped. The CM’s were very helpful, and commented on our name badges. Linda (I think) chatted with us about how prepared we were. Name badges, fanny packs, autograph books I had all ordered in advance. She set up our room keys, went over the DDP info with us briefly, gave us our parking permit and off we go.

We were assigned room 2255. The room was located on the Arushka Savannah, 1 floor up from the lobby, 2 doors from the elevator and the viewing area. It took us awhile to find the room because we got turned around a couple of time, but eventually we made it. The room was very nice. Large sink area with 2 sinks and plenty of room for toiletries. Brown tiled walls in the bathroom, and very clean. The room itself was about average in size, with African printed comforter, a large wooden armoire, with the addition of a minifridge in the corner next to the closet. Dathan calls downstairs to let bell service know our room assignment while I take the kids out to the balcony. Our view is a little restricted because of the large pole on the right and because we’re close to the corner of the building, but hey it’s the AKL so I’m not bothered. We see a giraffe and a couple of birds right off the bat. In about 10 minutes our bags arrive and the CM was very friendly and helpful. We asked about Alberto and he said so far it looks like a lot of rain but it’s still a little too early to tell. We unpacked our bags, and it was decided we’d hang around the resort and explore, instead of heading immediately to the parks.

On a side note, last trip we really toured commando style. Parks all day every day other than arrival day and meal time. I promised DH this time I would really try to enjoy the moment and make an effort to relax and let the he and the kids have more input on the daily activities. I really wanted to head out but the kids really wanted to swim and look around the resort. Dathan also pointed out that it’s really not fair to stay at a deluxe resort without actually taking the time to find out what make it a deluxe. (He just wanted to swim…wussy) However, we were all starving by now so we went down for lunch. We went by Mara but they only had the ready to go refrigerated items ready. The sandwich, soup stations weren’t set up yet. So we decided to go to the AK since it was the closest park. I’d heard great things about the Flame Tree BBQ so we marched on over, got in line and waited. The line took about 15 minutes, which wasn’t too bad considering the crowd. I headed off to find a drink, and in my list of tip I had found on the DIS, there was a tip to keep going down the path past the condiment cart. That there was a lot more seating further down the path. Had I not known this we would have sat on a bench and ate. DH had the ½ smoked chicken, I had the BBQ pork sandwich, and Shealynn had the kid’s hot dog meal. Kayleigh shared with me and DH. DH loved the chicken, and the BBQ was outstanding. The sandwich was very big and the hot was more than enough to fill us up. We had 2 waters and DD had a chocolate milk to drink, and we all had frozen lemonades for dessert. Even splitting the lemonades we couldn’t finish it all. Total with tax and tip around $36.

Directly across from the seating area, there was a character meet and greet scheduled for Pooh and Eeyore. The line wasn’t too long, but as we got there. Eeyore and then Pooh then left to take a break. About 5 minutes later, it starts drizzling. So we all pack in and stand under the eaves of the pavilion. Pooh comes back and a couple of people get pics. Eeyore comes back and the skies open. It begins pouring. An announcement is made that because of the weather, the characters have to go home. And off they go under umbrellas. Kayleigh is sooo upset. We explain that the characters don’t like the rain and we’ll try to find them later in the week. This surprisingly works. :woohoo: Now, I didn’t bring my backpack so our ponchos are safe and sound at the resort. WE wait a few more minutes and decide to run for it. We are wet in 5 feet. Soaked in 10. We decide we’ll be just as wet if we walk and slow down. It had been so hot before that the rain actually cooled us off. So we take our time and head toward the exit like the other hundreds of people who are leaving. The kids have a ball splashing in the puddles and people look at us like we’re absolutely nuts. What? It’s just rain, we’ll dry off and we’re having a lot more fun than you anyway! Make it to the bus stop, catch the bus and arrive at the AKL in about 5 minutes. We troop through the lobby, again drawing curious glances and hurry to the room. We sit down for a minute and the kids decide it’s time to go swimming. As Shealynn said “We’re already wet, so let’s go.”

Everybody dons a swimsuit and we wander around the resort for a few minutes. We examine the artifact displays in the lobby, take in the view from the viewing are right off the lobby, head outside to Arushka rock to check out the animal action. We see lots of zebras, giraffes, birds and a lot of other animals that I don’t remember without the animal guide in front of me. It was very relaxing for the adults to sit and rock and the kids had a blast trying to identify all the different types of animals. So finally we head downstairs toward the pool. I was a little disappointed in the pool area at first. But when I really looked at how well the theme was carried out, I was actually impressed at the level of detail. The AKL pool is free form and has a nice waterslide. It was higher than the one at POFQ so Shealynn was impressed. We all get in watch Shealynn do the water slide 24+ times (I stopped counting at 24) and try to convince Kayleigh that she’s too little. (Apparently DH doesn’t agree as you’ll see later on) We swim for a couple of hours and search for the hot tub. We find it on the left side of the pool past the pool bar. It’s pretty deep and almost secluded. We all get in and I literally feel the tension draining out of me. DH suggests that we leave a little early for our ADR at Chef Mickey’s and go to the MK for a little while. I tell him I had figured out why the AKL is a Deluxe…it’s the hot tub. And I was fine where I was. Besides, we told the kids we’d take it easy. A friendly maintenance CM strolls by and says hello. And immediately says that someone has tampered with the hot tub controls and shows us how to adjust the bubble and jet level. He ratchets up the level form 4 to 9 and a good thing just gets even better. He chats for a minute and DH says he’s hot and he’s taking the kids back to the pool. I tell him I’ll be right there. The CM laughs and tells DH “You might as well go get her a glass of wine and bring it back, cause she is LYING!! You’re gonna have to drag her out!!” We all laugh because we know he’s right. Well, DH and the kids and the CM head on their way. Within 5 minutes the CM is back with a glass of wine. He tells me to enjoy and have a great vacation. Now that’s what I call going above and beyond.

Eventually I drag my sorry wet butt out of the hot tub and swing by the pool just as DH and the kids are hopping out. We all head up to the room to get ready for dinner at Chef Mickey’s. Everybody dresses and we get to the bus stop around 8:10. Catch a bus to the MK and head to the monorail. The air is warm, the weather is sunny, you can smell the popcorn from the MK, and happy people in the hundreds are strolling by. I am so happy at this moment that I could cry. This is the moment when I finally realize….We’re here. At WDW. And all is right with the world. :cloud9:

Anyway, we walk right on a monorail. Kayleigh is amazed. She loves the monorail. We hop off at the Contemporary and head over to the looooong line at Chef Mickey’s to check in. We are in line at 8:50 for a 9:20 ADR. All around us people are complaining. What’s the point of making a reservation is you have to wait etc etc. I tell husband that people don’t realize an ADR is NOT a reservation. It guarantees you the next available seat once you check in, after the others that check in before you. He’s freaking out because we’re going to be late and we won’t have a seat. I tell him to relax. It’ll be fine.

We get to the head of the line around 9:15 and we’re told to go meet Donald and get our picture taken while we wait. I skip the picture because we’re not buying it anyway but we head over to meet Donald. Now, Kayleigh loves Donald Duck. He’s one of her favorites. But she is a little scared. I too am a little worried because she HATES Chuck E Cheese. I mean she has hysterics if Chuck E gets within 100 feet of her. Oh, and she is terrified of the
Chick Fil A cow too. :confused3 She bravely sidles up to Donald but won’t get close enough for a hug. We do convince her to give him 5, and to let him sign her autograph book. She does stand beside him and get her picture took. As she turns to leave, she has a change of heart turns around gives him a great big hug says Bye Donald and walks away. Inside, I am jumping for joy. We don’t have to avoid the characters and I will get all those character photos I’ve been waiting for. Shealynn takes her turn giving hugs, getting Donald’s autograph, and getting pictures. She is an expert because she remembers the drill from last time.

As soon as we’re done with Donald our name is called. The CM explains the procedure of what orders the characters visit the restaurant in, the items on the buffet etc. We’re seated in the top level of the restaurant to the left of the buffet tables, beside the wall dividing the top and bottom levels of the restaurant. We can see the MK out of the windows on the left. We get settled in and we see Goofy about 3 tables away on the bottom level. So we get autograph books, sharpies and cameras ready by the end of the table. Once again Kayleigh will get pictures and give high 5’s but won’t hug. That’s OK as long as I get my pictures. Next is Mickey Mouse himself about 10 minutes later. We literally had just enough time to get our food and get back to the table before he arrives, Now, Mickey draws Kayleigh in. He high 5’s, pats her hand and slowly runs his hand (?) up her arm and very gives her a great big hug. And she’s OK with this. 15 minutes later, here comes Chip. High 5 only. Minnie Mouse is only 10 minutes behind Chip but she gets a HUGE hug, and a kiss. Kids are weird. Shealynn meanwhile is smiling and hugging and getting autographs like she was just here yesterday. She really encouraged Kayleigh and helped her with the characters. “See, Kayleigh Mickey’s nice. Sister gave him a hug.” If Shealynn wasn’t there I think Kayleigh would have interacted much less than she did with the characters. All the characters make the round and we get down to eating. I thought the food was really good. I loved the salmon and the pasta with chicken, broccoli and a white sauce. I also thought the chicken pot pie was very good. Dathan loved everything and the kids were pretty happy with the food too. About the time we get ready for dessert, here comes the napkin twirling. Kayleigh was twirling so hard, she fell off her chair. Luckily, DH caught her before she hit the ground. She and Shealynn were dancing in the aisles and having a great time. Soon after, we’re all done and decide to head over to the MK. I had told the waitress mid point through the meal that we were on the DDP and she tanked me for letting her know in advance. Total cost with tax and tip was $102.04.

We make it just in time to catch Wishes at 10 pm. We watch from the end of Main Street near the statue of Roy ans Minnie. We could see pretty good, but it was packed!! During the fireworks, I of course tear up and it’s all I can do to stop from crying like a baby. I’m so choked up I can’t speak. But not so choked up that I forget that this place will be a madhouse in about 10 minutes. I tell DH right before the end to start working his way over to the right and into the hat shop. Why, he asks. Wait about 5 minutes and you’ll see. As soon as the fireworks are over, the crowd turns on its heels and people literally are running toward the exit. All at the same time. It’s like the Great Wall of China except its people and they will stop for no one. Oh, he says. I see.

We buy Kayleigh a hat at the Chapeau that fits. I ordered one for Christmas and I ordered a small child but she actually wears an infant her head is so small. Hand over the room key and chaching, we’re done in less than 10 minutes. We decide to fight the crowd and head up toward the hub to get a seat for Spectromagic. We get seats on the curb just to the right where Main St runs into the hub, right in front of the popcorn cart. About ½ foot from the trash can on our right, with no room for anyone to slide in beside us. Well, popcorn is my favorite food in the world. Above chocolate even. I hold out for 5 minutes and decide to get drinks. And if I happen to get popcorn too, that’s even better. Leave DH with strict instructions…sit cross legged with both kids on the curb so I’ll have room when I get back. Back I come and not only is Kayleigh in DH’s lap; somehow 2 people and a little boy have managed to squeeze in beside DH on the right. I loudly ask” I thought you had our space saved?” To which DH replied “I did, I explained my wife was sitting there but they sat down anyway.” I blow it off and squeeze my big butt in a space the size of Kayleigh’s tiny little booty. To which the people to the right say “Do you mind?” And I very calmly reply, “Ma’am, we were here 1st, we had our space saved and you decided to sit here AFTER my DH told you I was coming back.” Now, at this point her son was sitting on the curb and DH had Kayleigh still in his lap sound asleep at this point. I very politely told the lady if she sat her son in her lap there would be enough room for all of us. She says nothing but does as I ask. So DH and DD and I sit and chat and wait for the parade. 10 minutes before the parade, the lady’s son says he’s thirsty. Well, the lines for all the carts are horrendous. And every time DH or I get a drink the little boy’s eyes drill through you. His mom tells him she can’t get anything now or she’ll miss the parade. I knew that my kids would do the same exact routine so I always get a drink and a snack even if they swear they don't want anything. Because I KNOW in 10 minutes they'll be begging for a drink and a snack. I feel sorry for the little boy because it’s about 85+ degrees even at 11:00 at night. So I ask the lady if she minds if he has our extra bottle of water. She says no, and is very grateful and friendly. We actually chat a little and I begin to feel bad about the little seating disagreement earlier. But wait, it’s time for the parade!!

DH tries to wake Kayleigh up 5 or 6 times before the parade with no luck. As soon as the parade announcement is made I whisper in her ear. “Wake up the parade’s starting. Do you want to see?” And her eyes pop open like something out of an exorcist movie. She sits straight up and is wide awake through the entire parade. I have never seen the Spectromagic parade. Never again will I miss it. I was just as awestruck at the kids. Even DH was amazed. It reminds me of sitting in front of the Christmas tree watching all the lights blink on Christmas Eve after you’ve snuck all the presents under the tree. That’s how happy I felt too. Kayleigh clapped through the whole parade. Every new float she saw she had to point it out Look, Daddy there’s Snow White. Look, Shealynn there’s Mickey. And sometimes, she just said WOW. After the parade ends, we sit for a few minutes and just soak in the atmosphere. We wander our way through the shops and I show Shealynn all the windows on Main Street. The names and that they stand for real people who were very important to WDW and to the Disney Company. We finally make it to the bus stop and get on a full bus. Kayleigh and Shealynn fall asleep on the way to the resort, and I admit I rested my eyes for a minute too. We make it to the resort and Kayleigh and I decide it’s bedtime. Shealynn is wide awake and ready for the pool. So Dathan and Shealynn head off for a midnight swim and Kayleigh and I dream sweet Disney Dreams.

High Point: AKL, the hot tub, Spectromagic
Low Point: the curb incident, the crowds

That was very generous of you to give the little boy a beverage. It was the right thing to do, even though it may have been difficult because of his mother's actions.

A great report...and I admit made even sweeter by your sharing that drink!! No wonder you keep getting pixie dust yourself!

great report - I love you daughters names - they really sound like they are having a ball! nice deal on the upgrade!

This is fantastic! Cannot wait for more...I am taking my 3 and 10 year old nieces soon so any feedback is welcome!!

Thanks for all the positive respones. This is my 1st trip report, and since I talk alot I was worried people would get bored. Anyway, next installment follows, but it may bea couple of days for the next one. I'm in the middle of job hunting, so I'm hitting the pavement instead of doing my trip reports but I'll get it done ASAP.

I had a couple of sidenotes to add. On Sunday, while exploring AKL Kayleigh lost her little backpack we bought for her. Either in the lodge or on the bus to the AK. So, I had to buy her another autograph book to replace the one she lost. Nothing major, but you'll see later why this is a big deal to us. So far, it hasn't been found even thought the bag and it's contents were labeled. Also, on Sunday after eating lunch at the AK, DH and DD Shealynn went to Downtown Disney to Disney Quest for a few hours. So I somehow jumbled my trip report a little. Kayleigh and I did explore the resort, but all of us explored on Monday. So, the majority of swimming and exploring was Monday. And I'm posting the trip report now...

Set the wake up call for 7:00 am this morning so we’d be at the MK at opening. Answered the wake up call, and tried the speakerphone but it wasn’t working. Neither of the kids woke up when the phone rang, so it really didn’t matter. I woke DH up. Apparently he and Shealynn swam in the pool for about an hour last night, so she really wanted to sleep in. Not this morning. News reports were full of stories about Alberto. It’s now a Category 3 tropical depression (I think). So Dathan thinks we should stay in the room and monitor the storm from there. I told him to feel free but DD’s and I were going to the parks, because it was after all a vacation. We could be scared and do nothing or go out, have some fun and make the best of the situation. I also told him if it made him feel better, he could ask CM’s for updates, because if it became really bad, they would know. He decides to come along with us. I take turns putting DD’s in the shower with me so I can wash all the chlorine out of their hair. DH gets them dressed while I get ready, and we all sit down to a bowl of cereal. We’re not big breakfast eaters, so we brought along cereal, pop tarts, and granola bars for our breakfast.

We leave the room at 8:45 (late again) and head to the bus stop. We wait maybe 5 minutes at most and a bus pulls up. We’re at the bag checkpoint for the MK at 9:15. I remind everyone (DH) as we’re walking to have all pockets unzipped and open by the time we get in line to make it quicker. Shealynn remembers this and is the 1st one ready every morning. DH always has to be reminded. It never fails that both DD’s and are get through bag check, are rezipped and waiting a the turnstiles for him every time. We team up and DD takes Kayleigh and the stroller, and I take Shealynn through the turnstiles. She is upset because she doesn’t have to do the finger scan, so she does it even though it’s unnecessary. I go through no problems and meet up with DH under the train station as planned.

By this point both girls are dying to get inside. Kayleigh has been freaking out since we got off the bus. We emerge from under the train station and I have the girls close their eyes .when we step onto Main Street I position myself in the optimum picture taking position in the front and to the side and tell them to open their eyes. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for. They saw the castle last night, but his is the 1st time they’ll see it in broad daylight, with a whole day of fun ahead. And the 1st time where Mom can get some good pictures, because it was too crowded and dark last night. They both open their eyes and for a second, just a second, they’re speechless. You can see the wonder and awe and excitement in their eyes. Both stand there eyes wide, and take it all in. Dathan and I look at each other, because this is why we came. Tears well up in my eyes and DH laughs at me. Kayleigh breaks the silence “The castle, the castle, let’s go see it.” And off she goes; except Dathan has her hand and she can’t go as fast as she wants to. “Hurry up! Let’s go ride Dumbo!” I turn to Shealynn and she says “It’s just like I remember it, except it has all the decorations on it. I like it better this way. It looks like a present.” I have to agree with her. I really like the decorations that are on there for the happiest celebration on earth. Especially the gold swirls around the turrets of the castle.

We take the time to stop and get Photopass pictures taken in front of the castle. We get a couple of pictures of all of us, a few of just the girls. Every Photopass photo we have taken the photographer takes at least 3 or 4 pictures of each pose, which I think is great. Because a lot of the times, one person has their eyes closed, or isn’t looking straight ahead, so usually at least one picture turns our perfect.

Pictures done and off we go. WE all sat down before the trip and made a must do list. I also am a Tour Guide Mike Subscriber, and I tried to follow his suggestions as closely as possible. We tried to get there before park opening or as close to it as possible, but wit didn’t always go as I planned. Here’s what we rode in order: Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pans Flight, Cinderella’s Carousel, Small World and Mickey’s Philharmagic. DD’s and I ride the tea cups. It’s raining through the whole morning. Not a downpour, but enough to get you damp. It actually felt pretty good because it was already 85+.

Here we part from TGM, because Kayleigh really wants to go see Minnie and Mickey’s house and some characters. I head over to Fastpass Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger spin and meet up with them. Dathan is directionally challenged, so I’m the FP volunteer. I run over get our Fp’s and meet up with them at Minnie’s house. We try to herd the kids through as quickly as possible, because the rain has picked up and we want to at least do Buzz Lightyear and get lunch before we leave the park.

Next is the Hall of Fame for characters. I ask which characters are in which line and the CM doesn’t know. So we pick a line, since the girls will be happy with whoever they get. We figure out that 1 line is Princesses (all girls in line) and we’re not sure of the other line. (It turns out to be chip and Dale and Pluto) We wait about 25 minutes, trying to keep Kayleigh from swinging on the ropes with little success. Every time you’re not looking at her, she hops on and swings. I finally pick her up and hold her until we get to the front of the line. We see Minnie Mouse, then Daisy Duck, and finally Pluto. We look around inside for a minute and decide to head over to Tomorrowland. The rain has picked up a good bit, but we decide to hold off on the ponchos, because it’s not a total downpour, just a drizzle.

We decide to ride the TTA first, because we still have a few minutes left before our FP return time. WE ride and Shealynn gets upset because she thinks we’re riding Space Mountain, not going inside the ride Space Mountain. We calm her down and finish the ride. WE head down the escalator and I tell DH I want to FP Space Mountain because my window just opened up. I show him where to go for the FP return area of Buzz and that I’ll meet him and the girls there. I stop and watch as he heads for the regular line. I shake my head and walk over to Space Mountain, because I know I’ll straighten him out in just a minute. I get my single FP (Shealynn is scared, Kayleigh is too little and Dathan gets motion sickness and will not take anything for it, so I always have to ride the fun stuff alone) and walk over toward Buzz, when there is a HUGE clap of thunder, and the skies open. And it pours. In 2 seconds, I am soaked to the bone. Everyone around me is running. I walk because I’m already wet. Go to Buzz and DH is NOT THERE.

I look around and he has moved to the area under the TTA. So I walk, soaking wet across the wide open area getting wetter by the second to him. ”Why,” I ask “did you move?” “Because we were in the wrong line” he answers. “So why didn’t you go to the right line?” “Because I didn’t know where it was.” “I showed you” I answered. “Well, I couldn’t remember” I am at this point soaking wet and a little irritated. I tell him to go ahead to the Fastpass return line and we’ll catch lunch and so since the girls are complaining they’re wet, hungry, etc. I head off toward Buzz and look behind me. He is nowhere to be found. He has, once again, gone to the regular line, after I JUST TOLD HIM WHERE TO GO!! (I told you he was directionally challenged…he doesn’t listen too well either which always makes the situation worse) I follow him and ask him where he’s going. “To the line” he answers. I tell him once again that he needs to go to the FP return line, not the regular line which has a wait of 50+ minutes at this point. We decide to get the ponchos out for DH and the girls because it’s pouring again and they don’t want to get wet. We dig them out, and are in the process of putting them on, when my cell phone rings. It’s my Mom and Dad, calling to let me know that the weather channel is calling for rain. I tell them I already know because at this very moment I am soaking wet, but thanks for the heads up because there is no weather channel in Orlando, ya know. I tell them we watched the weather this morning, and we knew it was calling for rain. At which point, my mom begins with the, you'll catch a cold, flu pneumonias if you don’t get inside, etc. I tell her as soon as we ride this ride and get lunch we’re heading back to the AKL Lodge. Then my Dad tells me the news that they’ve upgraded Alberto to a hurricane and we need to think about coming home. I tell him thanks for the info, I’ll call you later. Come home?? 2 days into our trip that we’ve been planning for months. ?? I’ll have to talk to DH about this.

I put DH off as to the nature of the phone, finish with the ponchos and hit Buzz Lightyear. I don’t ride because I’m soaking wet and I know the air conditioning will freeze me. DH gets mad, but I tell him why I’m not going and that it’s a simple ride, he can handle both girls. I go to the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station, but they’re not open, and into Star Traders to find a dry t shirt, but I don’t find one I like. To make things worse, I brought a towel with me and I used it to dry off the seat at Dumbo 1st thing this morning, and left it on the ride. I ask a CM and she radios over but somebody picked it up, because it’s not there anymore. DH comes off the ride and tells me Shealynn kicked butt. She received a score of 999, 9999 or whatever it is. One of the CM’s came over and congratulated her on getting the high score. I asked her how she did it and she said she just kept shooting at everything she saw. They all had a good time.

We decide to head toward the front of the park and get a hot dog at Casey’s but 1st I want a dry t-shirt. It’s still raining a little, but just enough to cool you off so we put the ponchos off. We head into the Emporium to get my shirt. Kayleigh again tries to grab everything in the store off the rack, so DH takes her outside while I make the purchase ($21.95 total) I take the girls in the restroom and we all potty and I change my shirt. We backtrack to Casey’s.

I tell DH to get a seat and Shealynn stays to help me. DD wants a hot dog, so I ask if the CM if there’s a kid’s hot dog meal, since we’re on the dining plan He says nope, but that DD can get a hot dog if she wants. SO we order 3 hot dogs, 1 with fries 2 with chili, 3 sodas, and chocolate milk. Dessert is 1 Cracker Jack box and 2 brownies. The total was around $38. I get melted cheese and condiments for our meal and find Dathan and Kayleigh waiting in the grandstands in the room attached to the restaurant. We all thought the food was wonderful, and gathered our things to go.

Kayleigh asked to ride the train as we were leaving, and I told Dathan I’d take them if he wanted to sit down for a minute. So we take the train ride and by the time we get back, it’s time for the parade. Well, it was actually the character caravan because the parade was cancelled due to rain. We watched the “parade” from under the train station. You still got to see the characters; they were just in the buses and cars instead of bubbles. At some point, Shealynn and I stepped to the curb to watch and we were caught in another downpour, so at this point we were all ready to go back to the resort. We make it to the bus stop, board the bus and head over to the AKL. We decide the weather’s too bad so we’re going to hang around the resort. And I have no desire to get soaked again.

We get to the room and lay around for a little while. In about an hour, the rain stops completely. Everybody grabs a swimsuit and we take the long trek to the pool. I decide top lay out for a little while and DH takes the kids in the pool. I doze off in the warm sun and am rudely awakened by dripping water. Shealynn is leaning over me, her hair dripping wet and tells me to roll over because Daddy says I’m getting burnt. I roll over and go back to sleep. About 30 minutes later, DH wakes me up. “You’re getting burnt, you need to wake up. Besides, I’ve got something you need to see.” “What is it” I ask grumpily. (I don’t like my naps interrupted) “Just come see” he insists. I wake up, rub my eyes and follow him to the pool. He yells “Go” to Shealynn who’s waiting by the steps to the slide. She heads up to the slide. I ask DH where Kayleigh is and he says “You’ll see.” About 3 minutes later he makes his way toward the end of the slide. And I see my 3 year old daughter come shooting out of the slide like a rocket. Oh my God, I think to myself. I head over, ready to give him a piece of my mind. She could have drowned, for Pete’s sake. I open my mouth and Kayleigh smiles as big as you please and says “Look, Mommy. I did it. Can I go again?” She is pleased as punch with herself. DH tells me “I’ll catch her, and she IS wearing a life vest.” And I can do nothing but agree. We wait for Shealynn to take her turn down the slide and take Kayleigh up again. Apparently, she had been down the slide 3 or 4 times already and they decided to let me in on the secret. “Besides,” DH says ‘I knew if you were awake you’d say no. And she wanted to go so badly that I decided to let her try.”

We splash around in the pool for a couple of hours and then we all head over to the hot tub again. I stay in the hot tub for a while and DH takes the kids back to the pool. I finally decide after another 30 minutes to join the family in the pool again. We spend the rest of the day in the pool and decide to eat dinner at Mara; since we have no ADR’s planned.

We leave the pool; go back to the room, shower, change clothes and head back downstairs around 9:15 pm. We’re still a little unsure about what’s on the DDP since not everything is marked. It turns out pretty much everything is included on the dining plan. Dh orders a chicken stew type meal with couscous, I order a grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad, Shealynn orders a cheeses pizza with side salad, 3 soft drinks, apple slices, cheesecake and a fruit cup round out the meal. Total cost was around $40.The food was pretty good, and the CM’s were very helpful in pointing out what was available on the DDP. We ate our dinner and headed back upstairs to find out what Alberto was up to.

Come to find out, Alberto had been down graded, and only rain was expected to affect Orlando. Some winds as well, but nothing major. Dathan and I breathe a sigh of relief. I tell him about the phone call earlier (I had forgotten) from my parents and he told me he wouldn’t have left anyway. We’re a lot safer here than at home in out little mobile home. Besides, he knew I wouldn’t have gone anyway.

Low Point: Getting soaking wet, possible hurricane
High Point: Enjoying the MK with my family
