Our Jeep was stolen!

I soooo feel your pain. I have a 1998 red Jeep Wrangler soft top. I love it only slightly less than I love my dog. If someone stole my "baby" it wouldn't matter if the insurance company paid me in gold bricks, i would be distraught. Hugs to you and your family.

Rule of thumb with stolen vehicles:

If it's recovered - joyriders

If it's never seen again - stolen and chopped for parts or shipped out of country by pros.

If it's found burned - the owner did it or paid someone to do it.

*From 8 years of law enforcement and 7 years of auto insurance investigations.

My son's car was stolen a few years ago, but was eventually recovered - the police think it was kids joyriding. The funny part was that after they got the car back, and had it fixed up again (the joyriders had crashed it), my son was driving it to work and he got pulled over by the police! They hadn't deleted the "stolen car" info from the records, so when they ran the license plate, they thought they were pulling over the thief! Of course he had his ID and everything so it was soon resolved.

My car was stolen years ago while I was at work and I cried for days. They found it in NY, I was living in Mass at the time. It was a mess. My insurance company fixed it but it was never the same.

We had a car stolen several years ago. The worst part was that it was found in a small town about an 8 hour drive away from here. Four juveniles from Michigan were arrested while committing a crime and were driving our car. They had broken a window out, cracked the stearing column open, trashed the upholstery and ripped the radio out. This little town didn't even have a GM dealer to take the car to to get it fixed. Try getting a car fixed when you are that far away and there isn't even a dealer where you can get parts. The shock to us was that we were responsible for going there and bringing our car back. The town was too small to even be close to an airport. Our insurance did pay for the mileage to drive there and back but what a pain.

And to top it all off, since they were juveniles we were not even allowed to know what kind of punishment they received.
