:confused3Last week my DH and I both signed up with a Disney approved choice, today I was notified that now Disney will not accept it. We are scheduled for Thursday and the agency was notified today. They are checking to see if since we already signed up, scheduled our time if we will still receive our voucher or not. At any rate we will still do our time since it is not the agencys fault that Disney is changing things.
Anyone else have this problem with Disney deleting choices from the approved list after the fact? We have not heard anything from Disney about this change.

I am sure disapointed...

That's lousy. Hopefully you'll be able to find something else. If you don't mind me asking, what charity got yanked?

What were you signed up for? Doesn't seem right that once its listed that they can just pull it.

That'll be my luck... we already did the work last week, but we didn't do all the sign-up stuff until today, so we are saying that we are doing it tomorrow...

What more did you have to sign up for after completion? I didn't see any options on my account for this. It just said they are awaiting confirmation. :confused3

We got all our conformations from the 'hands on network', the last being on Sunday the 17 that our 'event' was almost here.

Last week they announced on our local news that one of the picks was to donate blood through the Nebraska Blood Bank, so we thought hey we can do that! So I got online right away and signed up.
I did check the list today and dispite the fact that the 'bank' needs minimum of 150 volunteers each day the Disney part is no longer there. Oh well- we will still honor our commitment and donate on Thursday.

That didn't happen to me, but after I signed up for something I did get an email from the Charity saying they were not participating in the GAD promotion. They only signed up with the Helping Hands Network to gain contact information for potential volunteers and were not aware of the promotion prior to doing so. WHile I don't think they're lying about it, I think Disney or Helping Hands (whatever it's called ) should do a better job explaining and filtering these charities because they're basically getting contact info under a false pretense.

in the FAQ for Charities it says that the charities participating in GAD need to verify volunteers service within 72 hours of the time of service or risk being dropped from the program.

Maybe they violated their Terms of Service? :confused3

That stinks that it was already confirmed.

My personal opinion is that donating blood is not performing a volunteer service. Working as a volunteer at a Blood Center would be a service (but it would have to be with a Blood Center that was looking for volunteer workers through HON.

I would disagree with your premise that donating blood is not a volunteer service... I donate blood frequently and I've always considered it an act of volunteerism. It's a physical act of giving...

However, I don't believe that a single blood donation is what Disney intended with this promotion and was very surprised to learn that people are getting tickets for it.

there were a bunch of items on the site to do near me at a local food bank/soup kitchen. I sent a contact yesterday, and today every single one of the opportunity's are gone. :confused3
I really wanted dd to be able to help but now with the other thing i found to do she cant.

If you're not going to WDW fairly soon, I'd recommend waiting a little while and trying again. IMHO the major hubbub will die down after a month or 2 and a lot more volunteer opportunities will start opening up.

Wow, that stinks. How do you know if what you signed up for is good for the vouchers?!? I just sent an email expressing interest in putting together a box. Some money is involved so I'd be bummed if it wasn't approved! Very misleading!

We were signed up for an activity that was also pulled. Like many of you I was having a tough time at the beginning of the month finding volunteer opportunities. We are visiting Disney in late February to celebrate my goddaughter's birthday, and the volunteer ticket was mostly for her benefit. This plus the new $99 Florida resident 4-day pass ($86 if I recall correctly for her as a child) would be a substantial savings. Another friend decided to join us and will actually be getting a cheaper deal than the kiddo's ticket (~$15 for her, ~$21 for kiddo). My sister and I have annual passes so we were already good to go.

We had some time but obviously I didn't want to leave it to the last minute. Many opportunities were for after our trip, and my goddaughter is 6 years old now so that limited our opportunities. There was nothing until suddenly an opportunity appeared asking for over 3,000 people. And that was when I caught it, volunteers were signing up steadily. I signed the four of us up but I was dubious about it from the start. Not only were they looking for 3,000 people, but it was a basic 2 hour beach clean-up. Seemed a little too easy to me, not to mention thinking of the logistics of verifying 3,000 people on a windy beach. But hey, it was on the site, must be legit.

Well, my misgivings led me to keep looking and when I found a different opportunity right in our area (instead of 40 minutes away) and two weeks sooner I signed us up. I left the beach one too just in case we weren't able to complete the new one for some reason (a food drive). The food drive turned out to be very easy as well. This morning I got an email from the organization and sure enough, that first event was canceled. It's still two weeks away and I wasn't surprised. We'd already collected our cans and dropped them off today. But then I realized how upset I would have been if we hadn't already had this other opportunity. And I thought of the literal hundreds of people if not thousands who were receiving a similar email, who might become frustrated with the project. Volunteer opportunities have been hard to come by, we were lucky to get our spots with the food bank. We gave much more than the minimum, through no fault of our own, our neighbors were just overjoyed we weren't selling Girl Scout cookies. :rotfl:
