Our first visit!!!!!!

We are planning our first trip at the moment... and have no idea,
which resort is best one for first-time-visitors, which resort would YOU prefer.
I know that not all of you like the same. But, which resort is NOT the most expensive, but has a great atmosphere???? Maybe a bit romantic????

It would help us if you could let us know how much you are wanting to spend on a room. Wilderness Lodge is our favorite, but it's a deluxe, not sure if you're wanting to spend so much on a room.

DH and I found Port Orleans French Quarter quite romantic on our "no kids" trip Sept. 04. Nice and quaint for a moderate. Enjoyed the boat ride in the evening to DTD.

Welcome to the DIS. If you cold give a little more info about your traveling party and budget you might get more responses. I can tell you that for my husband and I we love a savanna view room at the AKL or a water view room at the YC.

My husband nor I haven't been to DW in 30 years. So we decided to spend our 6th wedding anniversary there this month. We live in Fl, so I ordered the FL resident tickets with park hopper, then was trying to rent points to stay in Old Key West. As time went by I decided to make a decision so I chose a value resort. Today though, I found a deal with AAA for $125 for POR and jumped at that. Since we are actually going next weekend I was a day late on being able to cancel with WDW, but they were wonderful! They let me cancel with no penalty! We are excited about this little trip! My husband wants to make reservations for the carriage ride on our anniversary. We have talked over the years about visiting, and staying inside Disney, but was reluctant to pay $300 - $400 a night or more just to sleep there.

I've been researching and have tons of info from the discussion boards on tips. In case you aren't aware here is a link to see photos of each resort, including rooms, etc.

Have you looked at the cool videos of each resort on the offical Dinsey site? You can see the rooms, pools, lobbies ... all kinds of great stuff! Look at them all see what theming catches your eye.

The moderate resorts are really nice and not too expensive. Port Orleans may be a good choice.

How exciting to be planning your first trip..and how overwhelming too! These boards will be a definite help. If you haven't already requested a copy of the WDW Vacation planning video, I'd do that. There's a link on the Walt Disney World site. It's also fun to spend some time there. We also found the Unofficial Guide to WDW a tremendous help prior to our first trip. I also like reading Birnbaum's Guide. The allearsnet site, as earlier suggested to you, is full of facts, information and pictures. Definitely go there. You can check out info, rates, and pics of the different resorts and determine which theming appeals to you most and what price range fits your budget best. Mousesavers is another great site. You can learn about different discounts available for rooms, tickets, car rentals... Your local AAA and travel agencies can also provide brochures. You'll need to decide whether to plan your trip on your own or to go through a travel agency. If you go through a TA, I'd recommend one that specializes in WDW travel. The disboards can give you suggestions as needed.

Have lots of fun planning! Disney World is my favorite place to visits. I love taking the kids, but I also love the trips that my husb and I take alone!

If you are looking for inexpensive romantic. dh and I really had a great honeymoon at POR. It is not as cheap as the values, but the atmosphere is much more relaxing if that is what you are looking for!

Have fun researching, that is half the fun!

Since this is your first time, I am assuming that you will be spending most of your time in the parks. If that is the case, I would go for values and spend the money on dining and other extras such as a carridge ride. If you are spending most of your time at your resort then I would look at moderates or deluxes.

Wow - thanx lot for all these needful help
We decided to to stay about 10 days. As we come from Europe, we only know DLRP and are really excited to see the Big Brother!!!!!!
I don´t know how cheap oder expensive food in WDW is... but the absolut maximum we want to spend for the resort is about 1200$
Would you buy a MYW-Ticket or an AP????
A friend said, MYW would be the best for 10 days.

To check food prices you can go to http://www.allearsnet.com/din/dining.htm
this will show the menus and prices at all the WDW eating places.

Also go to www.mousesavers.com for room discount information.

You can go to disney.com and click on the disneyworld emblem and on that site you can choose a resort and put in your dates to see what it would cost. You can add tickets too. I always do this for several resorts to compare. Good Luck!! There is nothing like your first time in Disney World!!!!!

If the max is 1200, then go with a value. But it is loaded with kids and the rooms are very small (I believe 260 sq. ft.). But if you want want a moderate it will be around 1500. (they have rooms that are 340 and 314 sq. ft.)
POR&FQ are very romantic so I've heard. But CB and CS are very nice too. But if you don't mind paying a lot, a Disney deluxe is all worth it. They have rooms that are 340-422 sq. ft.

Actually the Swan and Dolphin are great choices. They are not owned or operated by Disney, but you get everything a Disney owned hotel guests get, except charging to your room from the parks. You can find GREAT deals for these hotels.

I would suggest ASMovies or POFQ if you could swing it.

Did I miss your dates? The dates you go make a difference in the room price as there are different season. For example, if you go during value season, you get more for your money.

I really like CSR; it has it all yet for a moderate price. It's romantic and beautiful. Check out Buzz2001's website - we all did before we went. Even in value season though, you'd spend more than 1200, probably more like 1400-1500.

I don't think you can go too wrong with any of the moderates. I've never stayed at a value resort so I can't comment on them. My reason for avoiding them is that we're 2 adults travelling and I hear so much about lots of kids at the values.

The deluxes are great but obviously cost more (in some cases a lot more!).
