I am looking for any tips anyone can provide to us for our first trip to DLP and France. What do we need to know? I understand that tipping is not required or expected at restaurants, but if we have great service, is it acceptable to leave a tip? What about tipping mousekeeping? I've read that you should acknowledge others when entering stores etc.. what else do these first time Americans need to know about our trip. I am so excited but so nervous as well as I don't want to do anything that would offend anyone. That being said, we are not rude people and have manners. TIA!

Although not expected I usually leave a small tip for good service in restaurants, but no more than 10%. I don't tend to tip mousekeeping, but you could leave some loose change at the end of your stay. Compared to the American parks you will find food and merchandise a lot more expensive at DLP so save your money for that! Other differences are that people tend to queue in a less orderly manner than in America and they ignore the smoking rules. You need to have a bit more of a laid back attitude. However, people are generally friendly and polite.
It's really easy to park hop at DLP as the 2 parks are right next to each other and the Disney Village. The resort hotels are all an easy walk around the lake. If you're staying onsite continental breakfast is included and full breakfast at HNY and DLH. EMH is every day in the Disneyland park so make sure you use it if staying onsite. The Disneyland park is really pretty, don't miss exploring the castle or Disney dreams and some of the rides are better than at WDW. Don't miss ratatouille, Cruush's Coaster and Toy Story Playland in the Studios.
Where are you staying? and for how long? Hope you have a great time :flower1:

Thanks for the information! We will be there August 4-10 staying at SL GF and to prepay we did full board knowing we will have long days to enjoy the parks!

First off I fully agree with Micksn's ride recommendations
- Space Mountain should be open by then too and it's the best version in the world (in my opinion).
I tip restaurant and bar staff (if it's table service) but normally just round up to the nearest 5. No need to tip Mousekeeping but they don't tend to leave the personal touches that the U.S. guys have.
If you're going into Paris Id download an app for the Metro. It'll make getting about much easier.
Also you're going in the summer holidays so anticipate crowds. However DLP is pretty compact and everything is walkable so it'll be easy to park hop or take a break at your hotel or the Disney Villiage.
The French are super laid back and while I've never experienced any rude service, some of it can be a bit Laissez-Faire. A little bit of French will help but isn't necessary. I can only do numbers to 10, Good morning hello and goodnight and a few 'Can I haves' but it all adds up.
Have a great time! Theres less pressure to pre-plan at DLP, with paper fast passes and no real need for restaurant bookings unless it's very popular, so you can make your trip as relaxed or as scheduled as you like.

We don't tip as 12% service charge is already included in the prices plus vat. People also get a proper wage and not one that is to be made up with tips. Housekeeping don't expect tips here either.

We will leave small change if paying by cash or round up if it's exceptionally good sometimes but if paying by card or cheque nothing.

People will appreciate you saying Bonjour, Merci, S'il vous plait and Au Revoir even if you only speak English after that. :)

Thanks for the tips. My DD and I are heading to DLP in June to celebrate her 15th birthday. Can't wait to see the Park and Paris too!

Great thread...we are first time Paris and DLP visitors too (going in July). Appreciate everyone's advice!

I don't tip at DLP - my first trip I attempted to tip the bartender at the Santa Fe and she was obviously offended - so I just avoided tipping all together and I think that is normal as service is included. Servers appreciate respect and consideration like anyone and are happy when you enjoy your meal. Do use as much French as you are able and my advice - don't tip.
