They were selling flowers at the middle school today for kids to give to other kids and DS11 gave one to a girl who he thought was nice. He is kind of a shy kid so it took some effort on his part. She rolled her eyes at him :sad2: . Nice girl, not. He was crying about it tonight. My poor baby .

Poor kid. I am so sorry that she was so rotten to him. Tell him there is a girl out there that won't roll her eyes at him. I am sending him a flower for Valentine's Day. :flower3:

I REALLY wish they wouldn't do things like that in school. I was one of the girls who never got a flower or whatever they were selling and it was just torture. IMHO, it only points out the popular kids and labels all the others losers.

 to your DS, poor guy

Your poor boy. That stinks. Just tell him she is not worthy of him. She'll get hers one day.

Exactly. *Sigh.* It truly is sad how most things in school are popularity contests.

awww.

That same thing happened to my, now, boyfriend his freshman year. His school sold carnations, but he'd had a crush on this girl since sixth grade, so he arranges to have a half dozen roses delivered to her with the note attached that said "carnations just aren't good enough." About an hour later, he sees her kissing this guy in the hallway.

Hugs to your DS.

it is a huge popularity thing--my boyfriend went to a differnet high school so i was always the one without flowers or whatever they happened to be selling..

 to your son

I agree with this. There is way too much pressure on kids in school to be liked, to fit in...no one needs to leave themselves open for rejection. Just like our schools here no longer let kids pass out Valentine cards, it hurts too many feelings:sad2: I'm sorry for your son, that kind of rejection hurts and can always be remembered

 Poor sweetie!

We went thru this version recently:
DS18, is shy & is in a new school, waited until the last moment but got up the courage to ask out a girl to a dance this winter, & she put him off 3 times in two weeks, "I have to check my schedule", " I would like to go with you, but let me ask my parents if we'll be back in time', blah blah blah~She never came out and said 'no'.
He lacked the time & the nerve to ask out another girl.:sad1:
He seemed so sad the night of the dance. DSis & her family took him out to dinner, but they noticed he was very quiet, too :sad2:

At my old elementary school, the kids either pass one out to everyone, or give out none.

Now, in middle school, there are no rules about valentines.

Middle school is brutal.......my heart goes out to those kids who give and it is not appreciated and to those you never receive. I was a sub for 7 years and hated to see the heartbreak on Valentines Day.

So sorry for your poor DS.

They do this at my DD's middle school, but in a better way....

The students can order carnations ahead of time (this was done last week). Each carnation costs $1.00. When a student orders, he has to write down the name of the last period class that the receiver has. Then, later in the week, the carnations are delivered to student's classrooms. This was done last Friday, not today.

This would have worked out better for your DS...he would not have been there when she received it.

I know how you feel for your son. Very similar situation happened when my son was in middle school. to yours.

I would have killed to receive a carnation from any boy during valentine's day in middle school. When I lived in Maryland I had lots of friends a boy who was crushing on me, and whom I crushed back.

But then we moved to my fathers home town. I was then what is called an invisible person. It was like I did not exist. In high school it was not much better.:guilty:

Why do we set these kids up for such heartbreaks in school. I mean what were the adults who authorized this thinking????:sad2:
