We went to F&W on Nov.11th.
Canada
1) Cheddar Cheese soup and honey mapled glazed salmon. (two separate items) Good as usual.
2) Inniskillin Vidal Ice Wine. Very good and interesting. It was sweet, very intense, concentrated flavor and a bit "thick" in texture compared to regular wine.
Valencia, Spain
1) Marcona Almonds, very good, soft like cashews.
2) Serrano Ham and Manchego cheese on Olive bread. Good but to be honest, a bit stale like it had been sitting. I can make it fresher here at home.
3) Horchata Tiger Nut milk. This was good, interesting. Sweet, milky drink made from tubar roots?
4) Paella Valenciana. Rice, chicken and shrimp. Good
Regione Piemonte (chocolate booth)
1) Gianduja Torte. Milk chocolate and hazelnut cream. Good.
2) Flourless Dark Choc. Hazelnut cake - really good.
3) Banfi Rosa Regale - sparkling red wine - with essence of rose petals, raspberries. This is suppose to go great with dark chocolate. We tried it with the milk choc. and it was so-so. But with the dark choc. - WOW! It really brought the flavors of the wine out.
Scandinavia
Strawberry Rice Dream (my sister liked)
Spain was out of one wine I wanted to try - a Tempranillo.
I like to try more unusual things so I liked that they had the Ice Wine and the Horchata Tiger Nut milk and the Marcona Almonds, and they were all very good. Probably a lot of the other things we had are not that different from what I can easily get around here.
We read up before we went and the other food booths didn't have as much appeal to our tastes.
Overall, I was VERY glad I had researched the items in detail before our trip. We had been to one F&W festival several years ago and it felt like we were running around trying to find what sounded good and making decisions at the last minute. This time, we knew just where we wanted to go and what to try and it made it very easy and relaxing.
