Our electricity is off

We are south of Kankakee. Our electricity came on Monday after midnight. Yeah. Tuesday I got up and it was warm in the house 1/2 hr later it was cooler, the furnance went out. At least it didn't go out Christmas eve or Christmas day. The furnance guy was able to fix the problem. I started the fireplace for SIL who was watching our kids in our house. Last night I remembered to check if she turned off the gas starter for the fireplace, she DIDN'T. The last week will be a killer on our gas bill. Today it is raining, so the ice is coming off the trees, but the roads are a wet sheet of ice. Staying home today. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a safe night.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the freezing rain/ice accumulation on the trees doesn't continue...the weatherman swore on his grave that it would change over by mid morning and here it is noon and the trees are getting closer to the ground
I went out and fired up the generator just to make certain it is working in case I need it later.

I got up early and did all my cooking and cleaning just in case

My husband is out right now with his best friend ( a heating/AC guy) installing a new furnace for someone right now (theirs died last night).

Absolutely unbelievably wonderful! It came back last night when dh and I went out to get milk and ice cream for tomorrow night's dessert. Twelve days without power is way, way too long!

It was so blissful to sleep last night and not worry.

Wow, we have never had to go twelve days!!!

the most was probably 6-8 hours. Just not having internet is terrible, heheheheee

I heard that many in NH would get their power back today. Glad you FINALLY have it back. What an unbelievable storm.

Sorry, I don't have any. It's a different utility there; I know that. Everyone in New Hampshire still doesn't have power. One of our neighbors who had the power cable ripped off their house still doesn't have power. While power would have been a very nice gift for them, having all their children, including the son who's just finished a tour in Iraq, is really what matters. They're making do with a borrowed generator and a wood stove.
