I know there is a lot of dog owners out there. Is there any product that can help control dog odor. We would have to bath him every week to keep the odor at bay. That however is impossible as he is terribly afraid of the bath which means DH has to lift him into the tub. It takes a lot of energy to give DD'gie a bath. We tried some spray but to me it just a sickingly stong perfume covering a bad odor.

take the dog over to cyndiu house, it stinks over there anyway ;)

Oh Pop Daddy. I am laughing hysterically as I just read her post!!!!!

Anyways, we have pet wipes, which are like the baby wipes I guess that wash the dog down when we cannot bathe him. He is 70 lbs and 16 years old. Just use the wipe to pet him all over and it gets rid of a lot of yuck.

Thanks ebaynut

yeah I thought it was funny two smelly posts in one day.

Often feeding a different food will give your dog a different odor. You may want to try switching food.

This may sound gross, but have you ever had his anal glands expressed by the vet? Dogs build up a very stinky liquid in these glands in their rear end. If they get too full, the dog can really stink. Our dogs have always needed them expressed every few years. The vet will know just how to do it. Good luck!

good post ::yes::

Ellester took the words right out of my mouth. I had to take my beagle to the vet's office every few months to have her anal gland emptied. It is one of the stinkiest smells in the world. One time there was so much of it that it shot on the wall when they were cleaning it. YUCKY!!!! But I loved my Copper Ann. :p

Another agreeing post about anal glands.... Peeee U!!!

I also agree about trying to change foods - it will help! Some minty biscuits too! :) Good luck with your stinky pooch.

My cat smelled really bad. We just gave him a shower. I used my cucumber melon shampoo he was all better:p

EEEWWWW!;)

If you have to bathE that often, it's probably a skin infection, or it's a hound dog; they just stink. OR it might be something entirely different like its ears or teeth. So, you should get him/her an exam.

Thanks everyone.

Yes I have heard about the anal glands but had not actually thought about it as a possible problem. However, I don't think this is the problem as he does smell ok after a bath, it just doesnt last long enough.

Believe it or not, I did mention the odor problem to the vet & he made absolutely no suggestions as to possible problems. He is only one of a few there. I will request another vet next time I take DD'gie to the vet.

Also, Poor Joey has a terrible skin problem in the winter. I feel so bad for him. DH says this is causing the odor prob. I did buy some drops for odor to apply topically & they seem to be working. We are going to give Joey a bath today & try the drops to see if the odor is kept at bay.
