We live on a farm and DH keeps rat poison in various locations in the tool shed and although he thought it was out of reach of the dog, she somehow managed to get into it and luckily he caught her. Immediately called the vet and she said to induce vomiting by giving her 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. Did that and she vomited several times and it finally turned from green to white, so then he took her in (by the way, she's a chocolate lab and definitely DH's baby!) to the vet and she gave her a shot and pills to take. Said she should be fine since she vomited it up. I hate to think what would have happened if DH hadn't seen her eating it. :(

If any of you have rat poison out somewhere, make sure it's way, way WAY away from where your pets can get to it!!!

Glad that she is doing fine:D :D :D . The same warning applies to people with KIDS as well. I can't believe the number of our neighbors who HAD (I yelled at them:D ) solvents and cleaners which were accessible TO THEIR TODDLERS under sinks, etc.   ..........

I am happy that the doggie will be okey......my sister lost her doggie to licking anti freeze.......before they could get her to the vet .....she died......broke her heart.......this is a timely warning to all pet owners.....no rat poison and no anti freeze.....hugs to your lab

Thank you, EROS and pumba :D
Yes! Keep stuff like that (and cleaners/solvents) away from KIDS too, it only takes a SECOND for one to get into something they shouldn't and it can be so easily AVOIDED if we just keep things under lock and key or at least high up so little hands can't reach!

so sorry about your sister's dog. So sad. :(

I can kind of understand why the manufacturer has to make the rat poison "tasty" or the rats won't eat it, therefore the dogs/cats like it too but WHY do they have to make anti-freeze "tasty?" They should make THAT taste AWFUL to pets, then they wouldn't want to lick/drink it!!

bar bait, rat poison. it was scary we lived on a ranch and had to have that stuff. but we learned to put it up high. we will never know how much she acually ate. living on a ranch with over 13,000 acres it is hard to keep a close on on things.

Very scarey! Hope your dog recovers ok!

That's scary, I'm glad your doggie will be okay.

My mom had rat poison out and I didn't know it. Brittany got ahold of some when she was a baby.
So parents, check with relatives you visit too. You can't be too careful.
