I've been reading about everyone else's honeymoon trips and decided to post one on ours. If I figure out how to add photos, I will as they are appropriate. Here goes...
Arrival Day!
My DW and I got married on August 4th of this year up in Michigan. She is originally from England and hadn't been to Disney in over 11 years. I on the otherhand went to disney every year since I was 3 or 4, and then worked at Disney for a year during college. But it had been 4 years since I was there. So were were both very excited, especially since our honeymoon was a land and sea adventure and niether had been on a cruise before. We woke up at 4:00am the morning our plane left and hopped in the cab over to the airport for our 7:00 flight. (We chose the earliest flight to have the most time at Disney). My wife is severely afraid of flying, so the trip there was stressful to say the least. But she was a trooper, and my hand made it through the flight with only a couple nail marks. When we got to the airport, there was a Disney Castmember waiting by our flight holding up a sign with our name. Apparently we were one of the only ones taking the Magical Express at that time. He escorted us down to the Magical Express Buses and off we went to Disney.
By this point, we were wired from coffee and excited to start our honeymoon. We stayed in the concierge level at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa for the 'Land" portion of our trip. After swinging by the WL, CR, and PR, we pulled up in front of the GF. DW was snapping pictures the whole way (I'll add them in later). The resort was amazing, and as soon as we walked into the lobby, after gauking at the sheer beauty, a GF concierge castmember stopped us and said, you must be Mr. and Mrs. Nickelson. She showed us upstairs to the concierge level and gave us the rundown. Our room wasn't ready yet, so we headed over to MK to walk around and ride a ride or two. After Buzz and Space Mountain, and the 3:00 Parade, we got a phone call saying our room was ready. We headed back to unpack and change and rest. We had to get ready for our Victoria and Albert's Dinner reservations at 7:15.
Side note, it was at this point that DW realized she had forgotten all her makeup. Knowing how important it is for most girls to have their makeup and skincare, we hopped in a taxi and headed over to the store to do some unforseen shopping. NOTE: When jumping into a taxi, make sure you know where you want to go. We said to go to the Walgreens, and the taxi driver took us to a walgreens that was 15 miles further away from the one close to Disney. Anyway, after $50 of shopping and $50 cab fair, we got back in time for dinner.
Dinner was unbelieveable. I've never eaten at a place where they serve 7-plus course meals, but I'm a fan now. It was a romantic way to start our honeymoon. We sat by candlelight as they brought out 7 courses to us. A harpist played some music in the background. Definitely recommend it to anyone taking a Disney Honeymoon. After Dinner, we sat and listened to the orchestra play for a little while, then went out to the beach and watched the MK fireworks, WISHES, from the shore. That was enought for our first day. Gonna get up and head to The Disney Studios for Day 2. I'll post that one later.
