Our cat has been missing since Sunday night and I am just a mess. He has never been gone this long before. I am amazed at how attached I have become to our pets, we also have a dog. We are supposed to go away for the weekend and I am not sure I want to go in case he comes home while we are gone. DH is an optomist and is sure he will come home while I am more concerned that something bad has happened to him. He came to us as a lost kitten who wandered into my husbands work during some major firestorms here in California almost 3 years ago. Have any of you had pets that were missing and then came home? If so how long were they missing?

Yes, my cat was missing for 11 days. He came home a skeleton, covered in mud, but basically ok. My guess is that he got locked in the neighbor's shed, even though we looked all over the place for him. Please keep your chin up.

Maybe he is stuck in someones garage. I hope he finds his way home soon :grouphug:

It doesn't hurt to print up flyers with his picture.

We found a kitten at my office which was next to an apartment complex. We took a photo and made up a "are you my mother" poster, then took it to the main rental office. No one came forward, it must have been one of those dumping cases where they move and don't take the cat.

On a happy note, she is currently sleeping on my space on the sofa having woken me 15 MINUTES before the alarm to annouce she wanted breakfast. I HATE that - but she's so darned cute!

Hoping your baby comes home soon - but ask around! Talk to people - words gets out really quickly that way.

I'm sorry but please do not give up. Maybe she met a kitty boyfriend and is staying out with him. I will say a prayer that she returns home soon. I would be a wreck if my kitty went missing.

Yes- Our cat Sloopy got away when he was staying with his Grammy while we moved. We were devestated and heartbroken and angry all at once.
Imagine how happy we were to get the call that he was found TWO YEARS later. He was skiddish for a while, then he adapted to us again and it was like he was never ever gone.

Try some flyers - maybe that will help.
Here's to hoping he returns home safely!
Keep us updated! :)

Growing up, our cats would come and go for a few days at a time, mostly on hunting sprees. I remember once our cat Murray, who we found as a stray kitten, just disappeared out of no where. Us three kiddos were so upset! A week later we were outside and here he come trotting down the road all happy. We lost him to feline lukemia 5 years later, but cherished every minute with him.

I agree you should put up flyers and ask neighbors. Stay vigilent and your kitty will show up. If not, then that means there is another kitty out there waiting for you to adopt it and give it love! My kitty Lily and I send our prayers!

This story is over 25 years old but here goes....

when I was about 13, my beloved cat went missing. We printed fliers, went door to door looking, etc. Thank goodness for the fliers we printed. About a week later, a neighbor a block away called us & said, "For a few days, I've been hearing a cat crying somewhere in our backyard". (She had a big yard with woods).

I went like a fireball to her house, leaped her fence in one jump & heard my cat! She was up a tree & actually one yard over! That house had a fenced in yard with a dog in it. My cat had been frightened by the dog, went up the tree, & just couldn't get down or was too afraid. She saw me & came straight down into my arms.

My mom sent me over with some reward money, which the lady would not take. I went back home & my mom then sent me over with a 6 pack of beer, which the lady said, "I won't take your money, buy I'll gladly take your beer!"

I so hope you find your beloved cat. Check the trees! She may be there!!

First :grouphug: I know how scary and sad it is. :grouphug:

Have you checked in your garage or your attic (if you have one)? It sounds silly, but when my Mom's cat went missing a couple of years ago, she was gone for a couple of days until we heard her yelling from the attic. We have no idea how she got up there, but she was TICKED :furious:

We had another cat that disappeared a few years before that. She was staying with some friends because we couldn't have cats in our apartment. They had a really mean German shepherd that scared her enough to run away. She was gone for a couple of months, but she came back!

Hold out hope and ask around!

I would also call your local shelter. You should also post a flyer there incase someone brings him in after you leave.

Those silly cats have a funny way of going missing for a few days and just showing up and home and looking at you like "hey, I was on vacation... sheesh!". Seriously, I hope your kitty gets home safely....

DW Lauri and I had a Maine Coon that came to her as a stray before I met her. He was strictly an outdoor cat and would only come into the house for a short time during storms or to hang out with the dogs and then would demand to go back out.

Anyway, he disappeared once and we assumed he had died because he "adopted" her 12 yrs earlier and was an adult cat at the time. Imagine our surprise when one morning over SIX MONTHS later when I go to leave for work and he's sitting on the porch meowing for his can of Nine Lives sliced beef that he got every morning like nothing had happened.

He's been gone for over a year now. I think he's finally passed. :( He would have been probably 18 or so yrs old by now

I am so sorry and I hope your kitty comes back. Maybe you could put cat food by the front door and I also think it's a good idea to contact your local shelter and if you can put flyers up.

It has been one week today and our little guy still has not come home. I just want to cry. DH is certain he is just out doing his cat thing, and I am trying to maintain some hope, but it dwindles just a little more every day. We have been to the shelters, filled out a lost pet report, spoke to neighbors to be on the lookout. I have left food at the front door and in the back patio just in case.
