Meals: TS in order favorite to least favorite

1. Askerhus Storybook Lunch -- great food, great service, they took time with the photo to make sure they got a great shot. We had a great waiter who was very attentive, but not obtrusive. My DH had the traditional Kjottkaker (which was very similar to Swedish Meatballs). I had the Soup (seafood chowder) and Sandwich (grilled salmon) Everything was very tasty. My DD 2 was given a free children's meal. We thought she would just share with us and eat from the buffet, but our server said she would get a free children's meal. She had the ravioli which was good, but she filled up mostly on shrimp, turkey and salad from the buffet. We were brought a plate with all 3 desserts -- a school bread, flourless chocolate cake, and rice pudding with strawberry topping. All were very good, but we were so full from the great meal we had already enjoyed that we couldn't finish them.
Princesses in Attendance --Belle in Ballgown for professional photo, Cinderella, Ariel in Ballgown, Auroa and Snow White.

2. Cinderella's Royal Table Lunch -- great food, great service, picture w/Cinderella a little rushed, but everything else was fantastic. We both had the Major Domos favorite pie and and some type of chocolate dessert topped with ice cream. I don't recall its name, but it was somewhere between a chocolate brownie and chocolate soufflet. DD2 was also provided a child's meal at no extra charge here along with her own dessert -- an icecream w/a chocolate crown. CRT would be tied for 1st w/Askerhus except that it was 2 TS credit (we paid cash) and for the money, I would rate Askerhus as a better value.

Princesses in Attendance -- Cinderella for professional photo, Snow White, Jasmine, Belle in non-gown, Snow White.

3. Ohana Dinner--despite some negative reviews, we loved the food, the service, the atmosphere. We had a 6:50 p.m. res. We arrived around 6:20 and thought we'd look around the Polynesian while we waited. But we were seated immediately. I know everyone raves about the bread pudding, but I was not excited about it going in. I just don't like bread pudding. I am now a believer! It was the best dessert we had all week. (and we had some good ones). I had seconds.
The dumplings and wings were very tasty. My DD ate a whole plate of the noodles by herself. The steak was great to good depending on the piece. DH and I both like our steak rare, and we both had 1 great rare piece and 1 that was a little more cooked. I was already full from all the other great food, but upon request my husband got another great tender rare piece of steak. I think you could ask for the steak any temperature and our server would have made sure to get steak cooked to your preferred temperature.

4 and 5. Chef Mickey Dinner and Trails End Buffet

Chef Mickey -- we actually did Chef Mickey for dinner 2x. It was very convienent for us since it was in our hotel. Only waited a few minutes to be seated. The food was good, nothing fantastic, but good. They had something for everyone. The characters were great and took plenty of time with our table. We ate once with my sisters family, so we had 3 children at the table that night and each character took plenty of time with each child. Servers were always prompt and courteous.
Characters: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto

Trails End Buffet -- this was not on our original plan, but we joined my sister's family there and had a great meal with no reservation. They had fewer things on the menu, but what they had they did very well. The quality of food there was probably better than Chef Mickey's but Chef Mickey's has the great characters. So it ends in a tie. If you're paying cash, you can't beat Trails End for value.

(1-5 were all really good and I would not hesitate to recommend any of these to friends and family)

6 and 7. (Tied) Crystal Palace Dinner and 1900 Park Fare Dinner.

Park Fare: Food was disappointing. The caesar salad was good and the strawberry soup was good (it really should be on the dessert table). Everything else was a little disappointing. Nothing was inedible, it just wasn't tasty. Nevertheless, I filled up on salad and dessert. If I were paying cash, that would have been an expensive salad, but over the week we got more than good value out of our dining plan.

My not so great experience here started with the host. He had a bit of an attitude. We were checking in for a 5:00 p.m. reservation. He couldn't find our name. I told him the concierge had made it a couple of days earlier for us and that it was a hidden table reservation. He insuated I was making this up and that if the reservation had been made, he would have it, but he would see what he could do. I thought I had left my reservation # in the car, but when I reached in my pocket I had it. Take those confirmation #'s with you. The characters were okay. My daughter is not old enough to appreciate the meanness and attitudes of the step-sisters and Lady Tremaine. She wanted to know when a nice princess was coming to see her. They were perfectly in character and I'm not saying they were in anyway inappropriate, it was probably just not the best choice for a 2 year old. We never saw Prince charming at the table. We had just missed him when we were seated, and 1 1/2 hours later he hadn't made it around again and was no where in sight. We decided to just skip him. Our daughter didn't mind leaving.

Crystal Palace: We had a 6:30 reservation. We arrived around 6:15 and were seated around 7:15 p.m. It was just a mad house. The characters were great, but the service was BAD. We never got refills on drinks, it took over 30 minutes to pay the bill. (which might explain why people have to wait so long to get seated) I'm sure there are better servers, but the whole place just seemed hectic and crazy. The food was fine, in fact the grilled salmon was actually quite good -- much better than I would expect for a buffet. But the service and overall hectic atmosphere of the place turned me off.

We wouldn't return to either 1900 Park Fare or Crystal Palace. We did both of these for dinner. Perhaps they are better for breakfast or lunch. But we'll probably steer clear of these places in the future regardless of the meal.

Dining plan Review -- We did the basic dining plan. It worked great for us. I was happy to have a sit down meal once a day. We thought all of the quick service meals we had were fine. The food was good, but it was nice to sit and relax for a meal once a day. We ended the week with 9 snack credits left. We went to DTD and used them at Goofy's candy store. We bought snacks we could bring home. We just didn't find we needed the snacks during the day because we had so much food between our counter service meal and our table service meal.

I used 2 QS meals on breakfast. 1 QS credit for 2 days at Contempo Cafe. All 3 of us shared the breakfast platter and didn't finish everything on it. We are not big breakfast eaters at WDW b/c we spend our mornings in the parks.

Our other QS meals were at Port Orleans French Quarter food court for lunch (We met my sister and her family who were staying there); Pecos Bills, Flame Tree BBQ, Columbia Harbour House and Kringli Bakery (Norway Sandwich and bakery shop). They were all pretty good. I'd give the best to Norway and the least favorite to Flame Tree BBQ (but it was still fine).

I am suprised at myself for giving the top spot to places in Norway for both TS and QS as their menus didn't seem the most appealing to me, but their food was great. Although I don't like the desserts in Norway as much as others do. The school bread was fine and we also had a sweet pretzel, but neither were my favorites. I go for more of the warm, doughy, gooey, chocolately type desserts.

can you tell us what princesses you saw at both Akershus and CRT?

1. Norway Storybook Princesses Lunch
Princesses in Attendance --Belle in Ballgown for professional photo, Cinderella, Ariel in Ballgown, Auroa and Snow White.

2. Cinderella's Royal Table Lunch .

Princesses in Attendance -- Cinderella for professional photo, Snow White, Jasmine, Belle in non-gown, Snow White.

I added these to the original post as well.

I feel the exact same way about 1900 Park Fare and Crystal Palace. We took those 2 off our list for our next trip.

I was really looking forward to CP and 1900 Park Fare. Even though I've rated them just below Chef Mickey's and Trails End on my list there was a BIG difference in our satisfaction. Thinking about that I decided to give each restaurant a 1-10 satisfaction rating on food, service and characters. Keep in mind I'm basing these ratings on our group and comparing buffet/family style restaurants. I'm not suggesting that the food at Chef Mickey is comparable to what we would have eaten at Cali Grill or Narcooses.

Thanks for the reviews. We did Norway two years ago for lunch and found it so-so (I didn't care for the traditional meal at all); we are trying Ohanas this year for dinner.

Could not agree with you more for 1900 PF! We ate there in January and the only edible items besides the desserts was the strawberry soup, the food was just soooo bad!

Thank you for the reviews! Glad you had a nice time at Norway and 'Ohana's. Both are on our list for May!!

I'm so excited to try Chef Mickey's for the first time. Thanks for the great dinner review and I'm happy to hear you were pleased with the character experience.
