I cannot believe it's been almost 3 weeks since were in the Magical land. Because I'm still pretty new here, and a really lazy poster, I shall do my very best to entertain you with my completed trip report.
We spent a total of six days in Florida from May 14-19 and two of those days were spent on Disney property.
May 15: On the morning of my husband's birthday (50something), we enjoyed a huge and inexpensive breakfast at http://maggie-maes.com/ located on Sand Key, right beside Clearwater Beach and then took the drive over to Orlando.
On the way, we saw an overturned car in the median, people who drive eighty and think that's too slow, and found out my beloved Garmin was pointing us in the wrong direction. Okay, human error, I surmised. I picked up my trusty Tracfone and dialed Disney whose number I knew by heart. Once past the computer fun, I reached a sympathetic and very knowledgeable cast member. He gave us simple and accurate directions to Port Orleans Riverside. And we only had to turn around once. Not bad.
After staying at Coronado Springs last September, I was curious to see what the other moderate level resorts had to offer. The lobby was clean, and alright, but honestly, nothing extra Disney special about it. The cast members though, they were tops! Matt checked us in quickly, gave my DH a personalized birthday button, and gave great directions to our room.
We found our building in Alligator Bayou fairly easily, but getting to the room was another matter. We saw it from the ground, mocking us. But alas, the staircase was not so close. I wasn't sure if they had an elevator. Good thing we packed light, so the suitcase haul up the flight of stairs was not bad. But dang, there are a LOT of steps to work out the glut muscles.
The room was cute and rustic, as is the design of this part of the resort. I really liked the "wooden" bed frames, and the mickey icon shape with the towels was a nice touch. And yes, they had the soaps I love!!! I love my Disney for the cute extras. I would be bad later and dared to USE one of the soaps for my shower.
After some unpacking, and a few adult beverages to set the birthday mood, DH changed into his favorite golf outfit which consists of plus four trousers (knickers). I thought he looked quite dapper in his royal blue and white ensemble. We grabbed the resort map and tried to find our way to the bus stop. NOT a quick nor simple task, we came to find. The paths meander. We stuck to the parking lots and worked our way over to where we saw busses coming and going. That worked even if we took an extra ten minutes to do it.
This part is sad, so pass it up if you must:
There were only 3 seats left on the bus when we hopped up at the West bus stop. I chose one, and DH sat in the other. Only.....it was kindly decorated with lipstick thanks to some small person I am certain. AND THE BACK OF MY DH'S SHIRT IS WHITE.
So, with this small fiasco ruining our birthday moment, we quietly sat together holding hands and tried hard not to look sad. I promised him, I would find a way to fix this.
We got into the park with no waiting and found out that we were only thirty minutes away from parade time. We found a spot in front of the bakery on Main Street and was greeted by two cast members from the bakery. One gave us Mickey stickers. All wished DH a happy birthday.
I explained our lipstick issue to one of the bakery cast members and asked for a paper towel and some cleaner. This was going to be tricky, but I crossed my fingers and went to work on the spot as my DH stood there on Main Street.
It was working! The red stain did smear, turn pink, but I managed to get about 90% of it out with just a light pink spot remaining. We fixed that by asking for one more Mickey sticker to cover the spot! Yay!!!!
FAST FORWARD PAST THE GREAT PARADE....THE WONDERFUL CASTLE SHOW...THE RIDES WE CHOSE.....THE FIREWORKS.....
After the fireworks, we beat feet to hop on the bus back to our resort so we could find something to eat. Since the park really wasn't very crowded at all, the run for the bus was more like a fast walk.
We decided to see what the main building had to offer for food at this later hour, and chose not to eat in the bar. There was a very lively entertainer on the piano who encouraged the bar crowd to sing along. This was just a bit TOO much noise for us fuddy duddies to endure, so we walked past the bar and into Boatwright's.
We were very happy to sit down by now and were starving. DH and I got the prime rib. The cornbread was fantastic. The service was great! I guess ordering prime rib at such a late hour was not a good idea because I cannot rave about the dinner. 'Nuff said
The next day, we woke up refreshed and happy, ate on the cornbread they "not" saw me take out of Boatwright's in a paper napkin, and decided to take the boat to downtown Disney. We chose to drive over to the main building since we would be leaving later on that day.
Downtown Disney is the most fun you can have for not going to one of the parks!! I loved the Lego creatures, the shopping cannot be beat, and the high school jazz group we heard in the pavilion was smashing!
We ate at Planet Hollywood. TOO OVERRATED
I spent too much time and not too much money in The World of Disney store. Yay!!!
Overall, the quick trip to WDW was a nice happy venture overall.

are the many photos we took while there, arranged for your viewing pleasure. Please note, there are a FEW bad shots in there, so please bear with me until I can clean then up.
Thank you for your time! I so wish we could go back again soon!!!
