And DH and I are supposed to head to WDW tomorrow to celebrate our 15th anniversary and my birthday!!! DS had a snowboarding accident last night and broke his collar bone. He insists that we still go but I feel like the worst mother in the world for even thinking about it!! We have made arrangements for the dog to go to the kennel and arrangements for him to be cared for by family (which I know will spoil him rotten), but I just feel awful about leaving him. His best friends mother told me that if we don't go that he will feel worse that I will feel if we do go. I am so torn!!! And to top it all off, he has mid-terms this week and is in school today!!! He is totally my hero today, as I don't know any other 14 year old boys that would be at school 12 hours after thier fracture occured to take their mid-terms. He is alot more mature than I thought he was. I am so proud of him!!!

WOW i would be proud of him too for going to School and the mid term

as for the trip
Difficult to decided what i would do
 TO you

Go!!!
I'm a school nurse and mom of 3 (18,15.12). If you don't go there is nothing you can do for him at home that other family couldn't handle. If you don't go he will be upset. The bone will heal and he will be fine. Have a great time. You can bring him a little something special when you return.

If you do end up going, he should definitely get an extra special present! I have a feeling he will be well taken care of both at school and at home

Boys, especially, love to show off their injuries that they sustained in a fun sport! DS broke his arm in karate when he was younger and nothing could keep him from going to school! He had to show everyone the trauma he survived! BTW, DS also broke his collar bone at age 3. He didn't even cry about it but I got suspicious when this lump didn't get bigger or smaller. I took him to the doctor and sure enough his collar bone has snapped! I say go and have a great trip! He will be fine!

My daughter broke hers in school last september and she was a trooper. It is VERY painful the first couple of weeks but after that it's piece of cake. She had to wear a clavicle strap that was a godsend for 1.5 month. She's perfectlty fine now. Hope he gets better soon and you go enjoy WDW.

Sounds like you have all bases covered. You should go and have a good time. He might feel guilty making you miss your trip.

:wizard: sending some pixie dust to you and your son!! He sounds like a great kid and I bet he really wants you to go and have fun.

I know it must be a hard decision to make but it sounds like he'll get tons of attention and good care. And I agree with others, if you do go, bring him back an extra special treat!! :)

He'll be fine. Nothing will stop your worrying so set up a call time where you can check in, but go and have fun. :)

Okay I have thought about it even asked DD 12

we both agree GO Have a good time

she thinks he will feel bad about it if you don't go

This reminded me of the time my 7yo brother fell off his bike and broke off his front tooth. The next day my mom got a call from the school about the "incident with the bullies after school" :confused3 It seems my bro told the teacher he got in a fight with some big boys and they popped him, but he managed to chase them all away:rolleyes: When my mother confronted him he tearfully confessed that he just couldn't tell them he fell off his bike. :rotfl2:

Go and have a great time. Staying home won't make it heal better. He's not in intensive care. THis will give him a chance to be brave.

Go and enjoy your trip. He'll be fine. My sister broke her collar bone when she was two and I still remember the brace she wore.

Awww, poor guy. Sounds like your DS knows how important this trip is to y'all. You should go. He'll be just fine in the care of your family. Grab a calling card or use your cell phone to call and check on him daily. Really, that's about as much as you could do for him if you were staying home with him. :flower:

Hope you DS gets better and hope y'all have a fantastic time on your anniversary trip!

Go!! He'll be fine. He has lots of people to take care of him and plenty to keep him busy. There is nothing you can do for him anyway, it's up to nature now to heal him. If he were seriously ill I'd say stay with him but since most people don't die from a broken bone I don't see any reason to cancel your plans. I'm sure the family members he'll be staying with will contact you if you are needed.

I agree. Go and have a good time. Sounds like he'll be fine, and very well taken care of.

Thank you all for your feedback!! As of this moment, DH and I still have not made up our minds, and we do not have much time left to do so. DS had such a rough morning this morning, that I'm just afraid of how he will be without us home, even though I know he will be cared for in the best way possible. He had his mid terms and is home resting, although, he did sound better, he again urged us to go. I have a great kid!!!! :worship:
