Hi,

I'm a first time renter and got an offer for renting a confirmed reservation. The owner told me today (SAT) that Disney only do reservation on Mondays and asked me sending my info to him asap so that he can do the transfer next Monday. It doesn't hurt if I just give me my contact info but this sounds strange. Is there anyone can help to verify that? Thanks!

Not true. Member Services has daily hours, 7 days each week.

Member Services is open tomorrow, Sunday, but that wasn't always the case. A few years ago, they were not open on Sunday, so it's possible that your owner doesn't know that. But they could do the transaction tomorrow.

I read the OP as saying he/she was told transfers could ONLY be done on Mondays. That's definitely not true.

I'm reading that you are not a DVC Member and that a member has offered to rent you an existing reservation. The member has also told you that they can only change the name on the reservation from theirs to yours on Mondays.

If this is correct, then I would contact the member and verify what you were told because this doesn't make sense. :confused3

Don't send any money until you have verified that there is a confirmed reservation in your name.

Once the owner reports that the reservation is in your name and gives you the confirmation number, you can verify it at this website:

www.MyDisneyReservation.com/DVC

I do not think you are dealing with someone who is out to defraud you, but it does sound like he/she may not be totally up to date with recent DVC changes. As others have noted, MS is open 7 days per week from 9 am - 5:30 pm. However, this wasn't always the case and it is entirely possible that members who are not DVC/Disney "obsessed" missed the change. IMO, this is a "fatal" error. :teeth"

It is easy to change a name on an existing reservation and waiting a few days to get that done won't hurt anything. Just verify before you send money and know that control of the reservation remains in the owner's hands until you actually check in.

Now I am thinking that the Monday thing is maybe an RCI procedure/policy? Maybe RCI only changes names or does guest certificates on Mondays. So I wonder if the rental is actually an exchange into DVC via RCI.

If so, is it even legal to rent exchanges? I wonder.

If it is an exchange, the RCI reservation number will not show on the website referenced in a previous post. You would need the actual DVC reservation associated with the RCI exchange. You should be able to obtain that from Member Services once you have the paperwork from RCI.

JMHO, but I don't recommend a first time renter start off with an exchange rental. Others may have a different opinion.

there is another thread on this now - definitely sounds like an RCI exchange rental - and the OP has been told that is not allowed - I believe the OP had already walked away from the transaction based on a bunch of oddities. My benefit of the doubt (thinking maybe the member didn't know MS was open on Sundays) was apparently unfounded. Dang - disappointed by people again.
