I was just outside cleaning our greenhouse. We've had an old sleeping bag in there for ages. I moved it and when I did about 15 yellow jackets came after me. I didn't think I could move that fast but even though I went from the back of the house to the front in about 5 seconds, two of them still managed to sting me. I've since learned that a paste of baking soda and water will help relieve the pain as will ammonia dabbed on the area. However, it would have been better if they had chosen a place other than my lip and neck. Ammonia on your top lip and under your nose really keeps you alert!

The bites are still burning. Anyone have any other remedies for stings?

Ohhh!!! Sorry!! I hate them!!!!!!:(

Some people put tobacco on the stings!!!::yes::

meat tenderizer made into a paste and put on the bite. Also make sure the stinger is out. Use a credit card to get it out of not. Rub across the area.

Do you react badly? I take some antihistimine to help with the reaction. I also recommend the meat tenderizer and putting ice on the area (since you can't really soak the area in ice water. ;) ).

That'll teach you to clean!:jester:

(Hope you're better soon! I've heard putting a baking soda/water paste on the stings takes the pain away).

Have you been stung before? Be really careful because if you are stung again soon, or even not that soon, you could have a bad reaction. My DBIL gave us all a huge scare a couple of summers ago. We were at DSIL's and he was stung. He started looking funny and having trouble breathing. We had to rush him to the ER. He had been stung several times before, but the histimine reaction was much stronger this time.

Hope you feel better!

I posted this on the sunburn thread, but it works here too - lavender takes the sting out of bug bites :)

Orajel, like you put in a baby's mouth, works very nicely. It numbs the area.

Benadryl can help also. I'm allergic but haven't been stung in a long time.

I did find that I reacted differently than most people when I'd been stung but didn't realize that I was allergic until I had a close call. Before that I'd always swell immediately and much more than most people. Just didn't recognize it as signs of an allergy. I do watch my kids for the same type of reactions, like mrsv98 said the more often you get stung the worse the reaction will be if you do have an allergy.
