OTU Points to Add a Night?

I'm going to be 5 points short of adding a 3rd night in a one bedroom so I'll need to buy 5 one time use points. If I booked the first two nights with home resort privilege can I book the third night at 7 months from check in (ask for modification to add third night) or will I need to wait until 7 months from 3rd night and then just merge the reservations?

You can book at 7 months from checkin for the original reservation.

You will be able to modify your existing reservation at 7-months out from the start date of your original reservation to add the third night if it is available. The issue you have is that you will not be able to purchase those needed points, and then make the change, until you can contact MS at 9 a.m. at 7-months out from your original start date. At that 9 a.m. time, all three nights must be available at 7-months out to make the change but the system will automatically show that your first two nights are available because you already have them in the reservation being modified
