Otterpop's DISign thread - Autograph Cards and Epcot Passports

Evan,

I have one more question since your familiar with Artscow. Again, I'm doing your 5x7v4 passport....When you click/drag the photo to the pages on artscow, am I supposed to have the photo go into the bleed section? When I do that, in the preview mode, it cuts the flag border off.

If I try to play with it some, it leaves some of bleed section empty but I'm able to maintain some of the flag border in the preview mode. Doing it this way will I have a white strip on the edge of the pages?

How do you do it??? Is the preview mode how the book will look?

Thanks
Hi,

I'm not sure why you are having problems....I am no photo book expert, but...

I think 5x7 and 7x5 are both the same thing (7 inches long and 5 inches tall); so that shouldn't be an issue.

From my experience and others, the quality warning on artscow should not be a problem (i.e. the final product should be fine).

I have used artscow several times and shutter fly once and I have never had a problem with copyright or quality issues. Keep in mind that for every 1 person that posts that they had a problem with xxxxxxx, there are probably several hundred people that things worked out just fine for them. Unless you are pressed for time, I would give artscow a try.

I'm not sure if these will work or will apply to what you are trying to do, but if you do go thru artscow, try these discount codes:

Free 20 scrapbook pages (exp 5/16/12) - SCRAPAGES
39 page photobooks shipped free (8x8 $12.99 9x7 $15.99; exp 5/14/12) - 39PAGESBOOKS

My Epcot passports are awesome, I really appreciate you taking the time to provide these links and personalize them! Here are a couple of pics of my finished books. :)

They are so cute, I love the size! I put my cup of coffee in the first one for perspective.

Yes, please do tell where they were printed. Also, Are they the 4x4 design's that were posted here? I'm having a hard time with those b/c I can't get them to fit across the 2 pages on artscow. Any suggestions?

Do you know what I mean? It seems that they were designed as a 2 page spread, but in artscow you have to put each page on individually in the 6x6 book. How do I make it work then? Ideas?
Thank you!!!

Yes they are the 4x4 from here. I asked otterpop how to do it and he explained. You need to do one side at a time, so you will drag for example 2 and 3 but just use it for 3 until that page looks good, and then drag the same image again to do page 2. I hope that I made sense. It went really quick! The only thing that isnt quick is there shipping, it took at least 3 weeks but they were way worth the wait. :)

Thanks for posting the pics; they look great!

Just to add....

Make sure you are doing the deluxe photo book (not their regular ones).

the below is assuming you already have all of the passport images uploaded to artscow and are in the photo book designer...

To make the images span both pages, you drag the image of interest onto one of the pages and then click on it and a little menu bar will pop up; the fourth option from the left is the one you want to click (it looks like to two pieces of paper partially overlapping). This will make the image span both pages.

From my experiences, what you see in the designer is how it will be printed. So make sure that you are inside of the bleed area (I have left enough room on all of my passport files such that none of the "important" parts of the images will be cutoff) The preview option is just to give you a general idea of the overall look. What will look perfect in the designer, will be "off" in the preview and visa versa; go with what it looks like in the Designer.

The front and back cover are a little tricky to do at first, but once you know what you are doing...

Here's the card for Merida. I'm working on a 10x10 autograph page for her that I'll post in a few days...

Evan,
I love your 4/4 vs5 passport. Do you think I could print it on my own? I have read all of the artscow comments but can't afford to go that route with 4 kids. Wondering if you think I might be able to print it on card stock and use it that way. Very excited about doing this with our kids on our upcoming trip.

Also, do you customize the name pages?

Thanks,
Amy

When I upload the passporter pages to the cover and additional pages it has a little letter "I" and says that the DPi is not good for printing is this normal or what am I doing in the 4X4

Good question and the answer is...I don't know! I guess it would probably work if you printed each image (which if you size it right would be 8 inches long and 4 inches tall) on a single sheet of paper and then when you cut them out, just leave some blank space on the left edge so you could possible staple them on that side...maybe print up a page or two on regular paper (not the expensive stuff!) and play around with it...

I can customize the passport ID (see my first post of this thread) and probably the cover.

From my experiences and from reading what others have posted, it should be fine.

Here's what I came up with...

What do you think? I can add/delete/change whatever you like!

If all is good, you cam PM me the names...

Evan

Hi. I was wondering if I could trouble you for a special design. You did the most wonderful passport pages for my class earlier this year, and my kids loved them. Well, I keep a scrapbook for each child in my class, and since the year is winding down, I am in need of a preschool diploma. I would love to have it be Phineas and Ferb themed as that is what our room is decorated with, and they are singing the Phineas and Ferb theme song at graduation. If you are interested, please let me know so I can PM you the kids' names because I know you don't do blanks.

The kids will be graduating from the Pre-Kindergarten Class of the Child Development Program. These are not their official diplomas, but they will be in a very awesome scrapbook that the parents treasure. Thanks so much.

Dawn

Evan,

This is exactly what I was hoping for! I love it and so will my kiddos! (Yes I claim them as mine.) I will PM you the names tomorrow. I want to double check the spellings of names. Thanks so much!

Here are 2 10x10 autograph pages for Merida...my understanding is that the triplet brothers (bears) will not be signing...

Me too. and when I preview the words are really fuzzy. Wondering if I did something wrong, or if the preview is off.
