For all of you in Ottawa I'll pass along a recently discovered planning tip for those in the NCR.

I recently found out that Allegiant air now flies out of Plattsburgh NY, just south of Montreal, about a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive from Ottawa. They fly twice a week and have fares as low as $19 each way (around $40 with taxes) with free parking at the airport. Only catch is that they fly into Sanford airport so no DME, but for that price I'll glady rent a car.

Wow! That would be great except that crossing the border near Montreall was definately an experience we could live without. We were checked over not once, not twice but 3 times heading into the U.S. They were definately looking for something or someone. Cheap flight would be worth the hassle.

I think you could cross the border at Cornwall.

Or head down the 416 to cross at Prescott (Johnstown). Best border crossing around. The drive on the other side is very nice!
