I had previously posted looking for a hotel in HH and we have decided to go ahead and stay two full weeks. One week at Disney and one week elsewhere. I am new to HH and the number of villas out there is overwhelming. Any rocmmendations on where to stay? Anyone know someone looking to rent a villa? We woiuld be arriving 8/8. ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

I got a getaway through II to the Marriott's Grande Ocean Resort - oh it is so lovely and you right on the ocean - one of the most beautiful places I have stayed at.

has HH - never the Marriott - but it does occasionally have HH - it uses RCI exchanges on the whole.

On our first trip to HHI there was no availability at Disney's resort. So we stayed at a villa in Palmetto Dunes that we booked through Coastal Home and Villa Rentals (www.coastalhhi.com). Coastal acts as an agent for a large number of HH villa owners. The place we got was a very nice 2BR, 2 bath villa just a few steps from the same beach Disney uses.

Coastal had a ton of choices, and it definitely is hard to narrow them down. I'd say that a good way to do it is to decide on a price range first. Next pick a plantation. We chose PD because of someone's recommendation. Since DVC is in the same area as PD, maybe you'd want to try Sea Pines instead for your second week.

One thing I know is that the huge amount of choices competing for your money means that villas are fairly priced on the island. Anyone that had prices too far out of line wouldn't find many takers.

Good luck! We had a very positive experience renting from Coastal, and we wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Ditto on the Marriott Grande Ocean review. A+ resort

If you want an ocean front vacation, this is an awesome place. I spent one week at the Grande Ocean last summer. Incredible beach access. Multiple large pools. Nice rooms. We had a two bedroom (i think this might be all they have). Roughly the same size as the DVC HH (about 1300 sq ft). Living area was bigger and the bed rooms were slightly smaller than DVC HH. Nice big console TV with VCR in the living room.

The resort has a much different feel than DVC HH. If you can't get into this place, the other Marriott Vacation Villa properties on HH are suppose to be very nice as well.

Good luck.

Prior to DVC we rented villas, condos and homes thru Coastal- as described by Jimbo. They have a wide variety of choices based on size, amenities and location to choose from.

There are also many other rental sources to choose from- you can find some at HiltonHead.com.

Enjoy!
