Other then the monorail, why stay at Poly over WL?

We have booked the WL honeymoon suite, but I'm half thinking of staying at Poly (we have never been to either). When we had breakfast at the Poly before it seemed kind of cheap/fake to me, maybe thats because I used to live on Maui, but WL seemed more 'real'. Was it my imagination?
Why pay more the the Poly then WL? I'd love to hear input. Maybe we'll switch over to a lagoon view at the Poly!

I've had this same tug of war and I still think about it from time to time the main reason being the pool. But looking at pictures on allearsnet I just think the WL is beautiful. But I really think I would love the monorail and the tropical feel. I'm curious to the answer to this as well.

Although I've haven't stayed there in recent memory I've visited/ate there several times and I agree the Poly has a bit of a fake feel to it. If the fake feel is really going to bother you, then don't stay there, but I love being on the monorail route (with the CR being my choice) and that would weigh a lot in making my decision.

The rooms at the PR are almost double the size of the rooms at the WL (at least they fell that much larger!).

Also the LV at the PR is unbeatable!

I also like being a monorail ride or walk from the dining options at the GF and CR.

I have to say it's the size of the rooms for us too. We've stayed at both and enjoy both equally. I have to say if all was even, I'd pick the Poly over the Wilderness just for the size of the room.

I agree! ::yes::

We have never stayed at the poly... we have been there for several meals, and to see family staying there, but we have stayed at WL honeymoon suite, and WE LOVED IT.... it was great feeling away from the "real" world, the suite was roomy and the tub was worth it after a long day walking around the world. The view from the balcony was only of the woods, but it was quite, and calm. We would do it again.

Having stayed at both I feel the WL is a bit nicer but the Poly is more convient. I did not get the feeling the Poly was cheap or fake as others have mentioned, I thought it was great. I just like the atmosphere of WL more. They are both winners in my opinion..smjj

For me, it's the theming and atmosphere. I grew up very close to the mountains. I have vacationed in the mountains my entire life. WL isn't a *destination* to me like the Poly is. I love WL, I think it's a gorgeous resort. I have nothing against it. But I choose tropical over mountains any day.

If I had lived in Maui, I'd probably feel the complete opposite though!

I loved staying at both resorts  . But overall I would pick the Poly even though you are saying to ignore the convenience of the Monorail. :confused3 In my opinion the Poly Pools are much nicer than the WL pools. The grounds of the Poly are great for walking especially at night with the Tiki torches lit. :wizard: I also prefer Captains Cooks to Roaring Forks due to Roaring Forks limited selection of food. The view from the Poly beach of the MK is also great. :earseek: Lastly I preffered the Kona Cafe and Ohana at the Poly to Whispering Canyon and Artiste Point at WL. Oh yeah one more thing the Lapu Lapu :drinking: at the Poly is awesome.

We stayed with our two small ones in WL in 2003. Rooms way too small! But - nice relaxing view, great boat ride to MK, and Artists Point are plusses. Did Poly November 2004 - loved the lagoon view. convienence of monorail, Ohana, big big rooms, room service, and staff. Drawback of Poly if you are on your honeymoon may be lots and lots of kids. Always said I would go back to WL if we are in the World in winter months and stick with Poly in warmer months for that tropical vacation feel. Overall both resorts are great! Best Wishes and much Happiness.

The Poly in uncomparable.....period. That is all there is to say. :wave2:

Having stayed at both (and appreciated both) I would say Poly is definitely superior. The size of the rooms really stands out. The Poly rooms have a big, airy feel; LW felt almost cave-like to us. I thought the staff at Poly was a bit friendlier, too.

I absolutely loved the WL...hands down, nothing better,,, but over the past few years feel it is not the same.....think pool too small and massive amounts of kids ..
and you did say you were on your honeymoon..

If your other choice is the poly,l would definitely go there instead..
much more suitable for honeymooners I think.. but I guess in the end it is all what you like..

IMHO for a honeymoon I would stay at the Boardwalk,,,rent a villa from a dvc owner...but then again, it is what you want and what you will feel most comfortable at....

and whatever you choose, you will love it............

To echo some other opinions, the Poly to me just feels more like a vacation. I really enjoy walking the paths and the pool at the poly is much nicer (although lack of hot tub for me is not an issue). The WL is nice, but to me is seems more like a hotel and Poly more of a vacation. The monorail is nice too, but I would stay there even without it.

I haven't stayed at WL so I can't really compare, but the Poly is close to the TTC and the boat ride from the MK to the Poly is quick and nice.

Another vote for the Poly. The views, the atmosphere of the theme, it truly is a vacation within a vacation. I've only ever stayed there, and can't do DW without it. Will be back this Oct.

I've stayed at both, Poly numerous times. I find them both to be equally enjoyable, but different. Just depends upon the type of theme you are looking for. WL might get a slight edge from me because of the hot tub. Poly gets a black mark because of that awful fast food place they have.

Being that you are 2 adults/honeymoon, I'd say to choose whichever theme appeals to you most. We have stayed at both Poly and WL. Personally, before DH and I had our twins, we loved staying at WL for the "remote" feeling. Now that we have twins, we love staying at the Poly because of the convenience of getting back and forth to parks (monorail/ttc), not to mention we love the Poly restaurants!
