What else is out there for kids parents to be identified if they get lost?

We put a temp tattoo on our DS2--just to try it out. He was curious at first but didn't scratch at it or anything after the fact... DH was wondering if there was something more tangible. Not sure if a bracelet would be better...but thought I would ask...

Please tell me;
Age of your child
What you used
If you liked it or not
Why

We aren't planning on loosing him, but want to make sure that we have something in place...

Definitely need to have something. We temporarily lost our then 7 year old last Nov 2012. But I had written my phone number and name in sharpie on his upper arm (just above sleeve) he showed it to an adult and they called me.

After that DH bought him a light up thing to wear around his neck. The darkness and crowds (it was thanksgiving) were the reason he got separated from us.

It is good to have some kind of ID on them, but try and make sure they know what to do if they get separated from you. A tag (my name and cell number)sewed on the inside of their shirt is what my wife used to do. (Don't have to worry about that any more, youngest is 11 now) First thing is teach them how to recognize a CM and what to tell them if your kid gets lost. Ask a main street greeter to see their name tag. When my kids were small my wife was paranoid about getting separated. We talked to a main street CM and thy were very helpful showing my kids what their name tag looks like and that you can ask any CM for help. Remember Disney deals with lost kids all the time and has a very good system for handling this. Don't woory too much and have a great trip!:)

Thanks for this...I didn't even think about introducing him to a CM. Will add to list of to-dos! Thank you!

I had dog tags engraved with the our child's name on it, and our cell phone numbers. We attached this tag onto their shoes.

Our kids are 5.

I liked that it was something easy to find and non-invasive, like having a stranger peeking inside their clothing which might not feel comfortable for them. I liked that I could attach that to any shoe they were wearing.

I didn't like that they weren't on them while they were swimming, but I didn't think this would be a limitation for this way of doing things because there is no way I was taking my eyes off of them for even one second while they were swimming anyway.

We liked this manner of ID'ing our children, and will use it again.

I also engraved a dog tag (Walmart has a Monster's Inc tag right now) with our son's name, my name and cell and husband's name and cell. We'll attach that to his shoes.

Really easy to do this. Go to the pet section at Walmart. There is a machine where you pick the tag. It cost $6 when I did it. Just a note - it took several weeks for the charge to show up on my credit card and it was from some place in Arizona when it did. I realized what it was, but it took me a couple minutes.

We use ID badges we print out at home. I got the template at themouseforless.com. It has their names, ages, our names, where we're staying and our phone numbers on them. We've gotten many compliments from CM's when they see them pinned on our kids backs. Fortunately, we haven't needed them so far, but better safe than sorry!

It wasnt' for Disney, but when I went to a huge festival with my then 18m old DD (just her and I), I made some dog tags for her. They said "If you find me then I am LOST. My name is xxxx. Please call my mom at xxxx. Her name is XXXX".

I put my name on there just in case something happened to my cell, I figured they could take her to the stage and call me from the microphone. Also hopefully if she got lost they'd check ID if someone else who wasn't me tried to walk up and claim her.

I put it around her neck, she likes jewelry so she left it alone. I think it worked out well, and thankfully She didnt get lost, but it was so reassuring that someone could get ahold of me if she did.

Absolutely safe than sorry! :thumbsup2

DS not a jewelry fan--I'm lucky if he keeps a hat on!...but glad to see your Princess was! princess: Definitely reassuring that we could be contacted if he got swallowed by a sea of people...

What did you use to attach it to their shoes? My DS is only 2 so I would like something visible because he would never show a cast member a tattoo or anything. He likes to wear his crocs. We'd have to remember to switch it onto his different shoes each day I guess.

My youngest was 4 for our first trip, so this might not help those of you with 2 year olds, but we made "lost cards" for the boys with all of our names, address, and phone numbers. I used one of those companies that prints mom business cards. Each boy had one in a pocket and knew if he was lost to give it to a CM (that's why we called them lost cards). I think I laminated a couple of them but we had so many it didn't matter if they got washed. Now I cross out the address with a Sharpie and use them for luggage tags -- they fit perfectly into the ones that Disney sends! :) Heaven knows why, but Southwest loses a piece of our luggage Every. Time. We. Fly. so the luggage needs the lost cards quite badly!!!

WE haven't gotten into tie shoes...So, what ever stride rite has is what DS wears...but they are mostly velco...So, I'm thinking a small zip tie.

A second thought as my son walked by with one of those wide silicone bracelets on -- could you write a phone number on one of those with a Sharpie and have him wear it on his ankle? Visible to a grownup if it's a bright color but not somewhere where he could easily take it off.

Thought about that too...You could probably have them personalized...but not sure he would keep it on....

Keep in mind, CM will not look under clothing for contact info, so make sure it's visible.

We are using the silicone bracelets and writing our contact info on them
Our kids like wearing them only and I tell them all kid guests wear them :)

Similar to this but I got a bunch at the dollar store. They can wear them 24/7 and even in the pools, if the number starts rubbing off, write it on again with a Sharpie!

I plan on using a metal key ring. It comes with a little weak metal ring, but I'm going to switch it out to a real key ring and put that around his laces.

We used the tats on our 2 1/2 year old twin grandsons and had no problem with them picking at them, or the tats coming off in water. The boys have sensitive skin but they didn't have a problem with the tats. We put them on the inside of their forearm so that they were visible (not covered by clothing).

We got our kids silicone bracelets from Road ID. They have an engraved plate that clips on to the silicone bracelet. We had the kid's first name, our first names, and our cell #s put on it. I liked these because they had smaller sized silicone bands (kids are 5 and 3.) My son hates extra clothing and accessories but kept it on the entire trip. He thought it was cool because it had his name on it.

a lost child sticks out in a crowd. my dd handles a lot of them. they know what they are doing and do a very good job protecting and making the child feel safe till they can find the grown up. :thumbsup2
