We're considering going to Disneyland this summer and would appreciate any input as to places to eat on property and/or off? We've heard Blue Bayou was good. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel is great. It's pricey, but not quite as expensive as Napa Rose (which we love, too). We also like Storyteller's Cafe (GCH) for breakfast. If interested in character meals, many enjoy Goofy's Kitchen, but we have not personally eaten there.

In the park, we like Cafe Orleans (DL). IMHO, Blue Bayou is overpriced for mediocre food, but there is something special about eating inside POTC. You're definitely paying for the atmosphere.

Remember, reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance, but even a week ahead of time is OK (except for Blue Bayou). Dining at DLR is not as big of a deal as at WDW.

For cheaper eats outside the resort, try Mimi's Cafe on Harbor Blvd. Check the menu on their website, but they are all over the place here in So Cal and a favorite of many Disneyland guests. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the entrance plaza.

Goofy's Kitchen has a very good mix of selection and quality. The character interaction is top notch too.

One of my favorites for lower cost dinner is the diner-style meals at the PCH Grille over at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. The pricing is great and the food is excellent. They also have a less-complicated version of the famous Kitchen Sink sundae, so if you have a large party, then this may be the place for you. My soup and salad combo - which was so big I couldn't finish it - was under $9. They have a character breakfast that is also top notch in the food department. Don't let the fact that it is a little further away bother you. Dinner (at an earlier seating), when we went last, wasn't crowded and that made it very relaxing.

El tratoria in DCA is really nice. And there is a World of Color package to get preferred viewing for the show!!!

I love Steakhouse 55! The food was very good and tasted like they used fresh ingredients. :thumbsup2 Expensive, but worth every penny.

I haven't been to the BB in a while. The food was just ok and from what I've heard people say on the boards, it still isn't worth what you pay for it. In this case, you are paying for the atmosphere which, I have to admit, is pretty amazing!! I prefer to go for lunch because I find the contrast between the hot day outside and the cool evening inside to be the best. Too bad Disney just can't improve on the food a little more.

This trip we will be trying Ariel's Grotto for the WOC package so I'll see how that is. People have been reporting it seems better than the WCT.

I also like Bengal BBQ. I get one beef skewer and one veggie skewer and that is a meal for me. Some people have said the food is more like a snack so I guess it depends on how much you eat. Anyway, that place is always a must do for us.

I have reservations for most of the places listed in this thread. I'm glad to hear they are good ones! :thumbsup2

I don't post much but I just wanted to give my 2 cents on Blue Bayou.. I went there last October for lunch with my girlfriend and really enjoyed it. The food was better than I expected (maybe because I had heard bad reviews and wasn't expecting much?)...

I had a salad before my meal which was great and my girlfriend had the gumbo.. she let me try it and we both agreed we could have had a BIG bowl of the gumbo for lunch and have been happy.. it was really, really good. She ordered the monte cristo, which of course ok but too much food and almost too sweet.. and I had crab cakes which I thought were pretty good.

the atmosphere is wonderful! I would definitely say eat there if you haven't before... I personally would go back in a heartbeat!

I second this. We had breakfast and lunch here, and both meals were very good. I had this delicious muffin for breakfast there that I'm still thinking about! They have coupons on their website if you sign up for their mailing list too.

Let me put in a plug for the Disneyland forum, also on the DISboards, and frequented by a lot of people who go to DLR often. :)

I'll second (or third) the recommendation of Mimi's Cafe, a quality coffee shop chain that actually originated in Anaheim but now has locations across the country. The location near DLR is across the street from DL, about where the Monorail exits and enters the park on the way to the DTD station.

Also have a look at the restaurants at Gardenwalk, an outdoor mall about a block east of DLR on Katella Ave. It has a Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang's, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Roy's Hawaiian Fusion, California Pizza Company, Fire & Ice, and others.
