VRBO is not pulling up anything very promising for my non-disney vacation. Anyone familiar with similar sites? Looking for something in Wisconsin Dells.

Thanks!

There's a great little condo resort in Wisconsin Dells called Lighthouse Cove, check it out, it's right on the lake next to the Tommy Bartlett show. They rent directly and have a website, we stay there in the winter time when we go skiing up there at Cascade / Devil's Head.

Reasonable rates too, for the Dells...expensive compared to Orlando / Fl but then, most places are, it's amazing how cheap rental properties are in the Disney area compared to other parts of the country!

It's so funny that you replied to this, George! I had actually considered PMing you since we were SO pleased with your townhouse and so many Chicagoans frequest the dells! Thanks for the recommendation!

I've always wanted to visit Wisonsin Dells. :) When we've rented cabins/condo's in VA Beach, Lake Placid, and the Smokey's I've pretty much always looked on VRBO.com too and had no luck there. BUT.. I have had luck just by googling different combinations of "cabin rental in ", and condo rental in.......

The dells area is really pricy. Last time we were there, I kept remarking that food, souvenirs, whatever was way more pricy than Orlando.

Pricey...and none of it is as nice as Windsor Hills where you stayed in Florida...just so you know! It's a big "tourist" oriented town where it seems like every single place there is designed to extract the $$ from your wallet!! We've been a few times and our kids had a great time, but it sure is expensive, especially compared to Florida. Of course they have a much shorter season, so I'm sure they have to make their $$ in the summertime when they can.

The Wisconsin Ducks were a fun tour to go on by the way...recommend that one! We also went to a "park" where it's all go-carts...they must have 15 different go cart tracks you can go on..great fun. We stayed in a hotel called "Copa Cabana" and swore "never again!"...one of the worst vacation experiences we've ever had! Not because of the place, it was nice enough (but expensive)...but because like many have commented on these boards...staying in a 1 room hotel room with 2 little kids is just not fun at all. 1 bathroom, 1 TV, no kitchen, etc, then you try and get your kids to bed at a reasonable hour and they won't since you're in the room with them, and can't leave the TV on, etc.

This is what led us to vacation at a townhome at Windsor Hills actually! Having the extra rooms made a 180 degree difference and made for an awesome trip for us, we will NEVER go back to vacationing in a cramped hotel room with little kids, it simply doesn't work for us.

The condos I recommended are nice, they have a community pool there too, and it's a good alternative to the hotels in the area (although if you're expecting Windsor Hills you're going to be disappointed just so you know! hehe). We stay there in the winter time when we go skiing up there, then it's a very reasonable rate for a place to stay. Summertime there costs a bit more, but with kids, I would never go back to the "hotel" style vacation again having done it once.
