Hello,

I am a proud owner of 3 BWV contracts(250,45,45 aug) and one 50 point SSR contract also Aug UY. Our family loves disney. We go every 4 or 5 months for 4,5 night trips.

I started looking into other timeshare programs that accommodate 4 or 5 day trips in top resorts. I choose not to due week long trips because I am a small business owner that can not be away for long periods.

Whats the next best program out there for short trips.

Most other points systems put an emphasis on full week trips and allow shorter trips secondarily. some floating week resorts do that as well with 3/4 day breakdowns. I'm not sure I know them all enough o know how some will work. Bluegreen works pretty well for this plan if you're a Gold member, not as much if you're a regular or silver member. Depending on where you want to go you can many times get a full weeks exchange and use 3-4 days as cheaply as you could reserve something similar directly. One option that works great is to do a full week in Orlando either Fri-Fri or Sun-Sun then tack on 5 weekdays at DVC before or after depending on start day. The reality is that if you learn and work any system you will do better than the average member.

I agree with Dean's assessment about learning the way other timeshares work to your best advantage.

We own at several other timeshares besides DVC - most are weekly ownership, but some also have points as the basis - and the flexibility is similar to DVC as long we use the system to the maximum advantage.

Since this is a DVC forum, there are other sites better suited to learning about other timeshares. You might want to check out www.tug2.net or www.tstoday.com as both will offer information about other timesharing options that are available.

Happy hunting! :)

Do join us over on the Timeshare Users Group (www.tug2.net) as you research this topic! It is a wide, wide world of opportunity out there ...
  • Mini-point systems - like DVC where you own points within a closed collection of resort properties from a common developer. Examples: Wyndham Vacation Ownership (aka Fairfield points), Worldmark by Wyndham, Bluegreen, etc.
  • Points based exchange programs - where a traditional weeks-based ownership can be traded as points through a third party exchange affiliation. Example: RCI Points
  • Split Week float as suggested above by Dean- a traditional floating week that may be booked in two parts (3n + 4n) at your home resort. Example: Grand Pacific Palisades near Legoland in Carlsbad, CA. This resort also allows unlimited day use which is very nice bonus for local owners.
  • Undivided Interest (UDI) model - less common, these properties may allow owners to book as much time or as little time as they wish. Example: Warner Springs Ranch in SoCAL where no specific units or intervals (time) are pre-assigned. Owner reservations are accepted "first come, first serve" for 1- to 14-nights per stay. The ranch offers country-club amenites such as golf, tennis, spa, both hot-springs and normal pools, equestrian center, and private airstrip. Day use available for owners.
  • and more ...
Personally, we've found owning nearby properties offering day-use to be a very cool addition to our timeshare portfolio. We get great use of the ownership for both short visits (2 hours at fitness center/pools), weekend getaways, ... and possibly for week-long stays or exchanges if the mood strikes.

Best wishes with your research and evaluation.
