I read a few other message boards related to WDW. I think that overall, the DIS is the best as far as finding friendly folks that know how to plan a WDW vacation.

The Community Board is not my usual hang out. I like it, but it's very fast paced and sometimes a bit too political for my taste. I like to lurk more than post. I enjoy watching other sub-boards on the DIS. I am about to swing into full planning mode in the next couple of months. For now, I am just hopping around the DIS and enjoying the company. Maggie

In response to your question, I hang out here(community board and budget board unless I'm planning a cruise) and www.guideshq.com which is a ChaCha guide message board. I also check out www.slickdeals.net but I don't have any "friends" there I just look for the deals.

If you have ever had a hysterectomy or a menopause issue, then the women on www.hystersisters.com are the most supportive, upbeat that I have ever met on a board. I have never seen a nasty post on there.

www.online_sweepstakes is another board that I like. But, it is also a large board.

I post and read on Offtopic, the 7th largest mb online. Most people here would fall over themselves at the stuff they post there and they are not friendly to newcomers.

I frequent two surrogacy boards, a homesteading board, Livejournal, conductdisorders (my dd is odd), a PCOS board, an autoimmune board, and several art business boards.

I don't check them all daily, but I do spend more than my fair share of time online.

I have to say, though, that I've learned so much from my online communities - and Im a much better person for it.

If you're really looking for community based on your own interests, I can't say enough good things about livejournal. I have met some of the most amazing people there. (some of which have become RL friends) I get all kinds of support and encouragement from the people on my "friends list" and I know and care just as much for them.

I love boards, but the interpersonal nature of livejournal really allows close friendships to develop because they aren't tied to one specific subject matter.

Yes, the boards here are big, but there is room for everyone. Just post away.

As for other boards, I used to visit www.belief.net and www.amitymama.com, too. I also pop in at www.mothering.com , www.mycoupons.com , and some others.

the DIS is huge but what I love about it is, there is always someone here (awake) to listen! Other message boards are dead after a certain time of the night! Not the DIS!! I started out on the cruise board only, asking tons of questions after my DH finally agreed to a Disney cruise! Now that I have booked the cruise and have asked all there is to ask, I have started to frequent the community board more and more and gosh darn it...I like it!! It does take a while to find your way around, and I feel a bit left out at times, but I still come back!!

I have left milk and cookies out for the tag fairy since post 1, but so far, she hasn't visited!

I surf two software related forums, one alternative Disney forum (URL banned from the DIS), one forum about the DIS (URL banned from DIS), one private politics board, one chat board, one airsoft related forum and two other private boards (URLs not given, obviously).

Welcome to the DIS. Don't let the size of the board get you down. A minority of the members post on the community board on a regular basis. A few weeks here and you will have some definite insights into the regular posters.

Sometimes, it seems a little brutal here, and don't get upset if your posts are not always acknowledged. Just when I get to the point where I think I must be invisible, one of my many friends on the DIS will acknowledge me in such a nice way. People may not always agree with your opinions and not everyone here is big on tact, but that doesn't mean they are not nice people and have really big hearts. I've yet to find a message board that I enjoy more.

The DIS is like a family...a little disfunctional at times, but they've always got your back.

I didn't realize that it was so popular. I ran across it a couple of years ago, and to me it came across as basically a bunch of obnoxious college boys.
