Other Disney Podcasters on Dis Unplugged

I love the idea of having other podcasters come on, either in an interview format, to join the discussion, or whatever. Something I think that makes it interesting is that (I get the impression anyway) some other podcasts sort of view the DIS as a bit of a black sheep. Certainly, none of them rise to a level of open hostility--or anywhere even close-- but it's definitely apparent, and occasionally gets mentioned.

Usually, it's just some criticism of the moderation/filtering that takes place on the DIS; while many of us who have been here a while understand some of the reasons behind it (or even if we don't, we accept it as the price of admission), it's understandable that it may seem inappropriate or heavy handed at times.

Getting more to the point though, I think possibly one of the most interesting guests is actually one of those individuals who has criticized the DIS at times. (I don't think that'd get in the way of the friendship among disney lovers though, and certainly wouldn't act in an unprofessional manner)...

One of the things that makes DU stand out a bit from a lot of other podcasts is that it openly puts forth constructive criticism, and they've said this. This other individual is possibly the only other one that I can think of who takes a very similar view (and in fact, pokes fun at having to listen to the "happy fuzzy bunny" reviews). This podcaster also has a strong understanding of Disney history, legacy attractions, and the like, which makes it even more interesting; but isn't local to Orlando or Anaheim, so still has the "vacation" perspective. So, in spite of any perceived dislike of the DIS, it's exactly that individual who I think could be most interesting.

When I heard this, I thought it would be a "personality" from another organization's podcast also. And I was actually excited about it. I honestly haven't listened to any other podcasts - mostly because I am new at this but also because I covet my DIS so much that I'm reluctant to be disloyal (as odd as that sounds). So the thought of the DIS willingly introducing me/us to other podcast persons made me think that they recognize the "competition's" work and that they welcomed other points of view. I also think that it shows confidence in their work product that they don't feel like they have to shelter us, the listeners, from the competition in order to keep us listening/logging in to the DIS.

So, if I was incorrect in thinking that the podcrew is thinking of inviting other podcasters to the show, I hope that they will consider it given the reasoning above. And please know (and I think I can speak for the majority of your listeners) that we love the DIS and that we would still listen to you even if we broadened our horizons with other points of view.

And again, thanks for all you do!

Sincerely,
Stacy

Walk away Lisa...just walk away... :rolleyes1

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've stayed away from this post for the exact same reason!

I have no desire to hear the other podcasters on "MY" DIS Unplugged! :lmao: I love it the way it is. I wouldn't mind guests per say but not other podcasters talking about themselves. Sorry, I'm a DU purist.:snooty: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Flame suit on!!! :firefight

I love it the way it is. I wouldn't mind guests per say but not other podcasters talking about themselves.

This isn't a flame at all. I think I view the proposed idea a bit differently though.

I don't think other podcasters would be on so much for the sake of talking about themselves in any way that wasn't part of the general interest in Disney that the show is all about. Even a basic interview asking "what's your favorite park? favorite attraction? favorite restaurant?" wouldn't really be all that different than when the same questions come up on the round table. Or, we might have discussions that have a new point of view that isn't usually at the table.

I guess what I'm saying is I can't see how a podcaster "per se" would be really any different than any other guest, unless they were to talk specifically about their own show. But honestly, I don't think that would be a focal point of the conversation beyond just an introductory mention. On the other hand, other podcasters may be involved with other events among the disney fan community, or charitable organizations, and things like that, which I think hearing about might actually offer something beyond what a typical "guest" might. (Nothing against any non-podcasters who have ever been a guest of course)

Either way, I think it's good that Pete and crew are exploring ways to let the show evolve a bit, and I trust that if they try something and it clearly doesn't work, they will adjust course accordingly. Also, I'm sure, as always, they will make it work wonderfully.

With the new equipment Pete bought we will be able to do phone interviews and have listeners call in and talk with us as we record.

Nothing formal has been worked out as to who we will interview/have on the show. It's all very much in the planning stages right now and as soon as we work out all the system bugs Pete will work on the specifics of who we will have on the show and when.

Please don't read anything more into this than there is. There is no anomosity - there is no hidden agenda - there is nothing more than Pete bought some cool new equipment and we are figuring how best to utilize it for the enjoyment of our listeners.

John

I hate to admit this, but I haven't listened to the DIS podcast yet. I have listened to WDW Today, Inside the Magic, and Lou's Show. Some sort of "crossover" show might peak my interest and get me to tune in to the DIS podcast. It made me open this thread! Although, now that I have opened it, I may just download a DIS podcast to check it out.

BTW, I have no clue WHY I haven't listened to the DIS podcast yet, I just thought I should come clean and tell you that!

I agree that personal attacks are not good and should not be allowed here.

With that in mind, I have listened to other podcasts, and while they do offer interesting information, I do not like having the constant music in the background. I sometimes have trouble hearing and the background music makes it additionally hard to hear the people speaking.

I prefer the DIS Unplugged podcast because there is no background music. I want to hear the people speaking, not some generic background noise. It is very distracting to me.

Just my two cents. I would like to hear other viewpoints. I really enjoyed it when the DIS had one of the agents from The Timeshare Store on their show explaining DVC. In my mind, these visits would be similar to that, I guess.

We are all interested in Disney, and I like the idea of encouraging communication to bring people together. Isn't that something that Walt Disney pushed for?

That's exactly how it took it John and I'm VERY excited! I don't listen to many other podcasts because I don't have the time but I never miss the DU! I also have to say I love Lou's music as I do the DU because it lets me know good times are coming my way!

Remedy this situation immediately! I guarantee you wont be disappointed ::yes:: (this podcast is very different than the others... and a lot more fun and informative IMHO)

This is a wonderful idea. What a great way to become 'one' with the rest of the Disney podcast community, and a perfect opening for the DIS Unplugged in becoming part of MouseFest! I would sooooo like to see that happen.:cool1: :thumbsup2 :cool1: :thumbsup2

I would love to hear how Van from the Netcot podcast and the Dis crew get along...

I'm also a fan of Mike and Mark over at Mousestation, as well as those already mentioned (WDW Today, All About the Mouse, WDW Radio)

I downloaded a few today. I'll try and listen to them soon!!

I listen to all three (Dis, Lou's, & WDWtoday) for one reason; they're all grammatically much different. With that in mind, I think it would be fascinating to hear the Dis team interview Lou or the WDWToday folks. By the way, if you listen to all three, pay attention how each podcast reports the same story (ie, ticket price increases, new attractions, any WDW hot topic). It’s reminds me how different news outlets report the same news story (ie, CNN vs. Fox).

Thank you! I'm the same way!

I've listened to a couple of the other podcasts - and the main thing that gets me is the background music. It's very distracting to me - I'm sooo glad Pete doesn't use background music. All the time I'm listening to the other podcast, all I can think about is "can you turn that down a little?" I enjoy some of the other podcasts - but nothing compares to the DIS!
