Last year I cruised on the Magic and having access to these message boards was the best possible resource in planning out that trip. The information shared with other cruisers was and is invaluable. Later this year I'm planning an Alaska cruise on Celebrity. Does anyone know if there are boards where I can share information regarding Celebrity? Thx.

I believe that cruisecritic.com and cruisemates.com both have message boards for Celebrity--I'm searching for RCCL, and haven't found any boards that come close to the knowledge found on these (with the links to Dave's site, and Barb & Tony's site).

If you are travelling to Alaska there is a message board for ports of call on cruisecritic.com just for Alaska. I found a great deal of information on that board last year when I went. There are two people budgetqueen and juneauite (sp?) that had so much information and they are constantly reading the boards and answering questions.

I'm jealous, I would go back to Alaska in a heartbeat if I had the chance!

BARB: Did you buy the propeller clock on the ship or take a picture of it while cruising and use the picture for the new avatar?

Any other board is pretty lame if you're looking for info on Disney, but since you're looking for info on other lines, they're all covered on those other boards.

Kajohn: When did you go to Alaska. We're going on RCCL 7/26--any recommendations for excursions, etc (we're stopping in Juneau, Skagway, and ketchikan), Also, we're leaving from Vancouver--any recommendations for hotels. Thanks--I've been lurking on curisecritic and cruisemate, but just haven't learned as much as I learned here.

We haven't bought one yet...that's just a photo of one from our stateroom. But we plan to buy one on an upcoming cruise to add to our collection of DCL paraphenalia, which is getting quite large. Pretty soon it will be like being in a stateroom right in our house :D

Good Answer Barb and Tony. I was going to ask how you could have two different avatars going at once, but then answered my own question. Will the propeller clock be an Anniversary treat?
Jan :earsgirl:

Yep, I think we'll either buy it on the Feb. cruise for our anniversary or next cruise to celebrate #30. It is so cute! It's Herman Miller, so it's a good brand too, and the price is reasonable...I think around $30. We were going to buy it on the Magic, but for a 7-day our suitcases were already packed to the gills, and then Tony bought a bunch of t-shirts etc. (he's the one with the shopping gene in our family), so we decided to wait till our suitecases are not bursting at the seams. :D We have packing for the 3-day down to a science.

NCRedding: We were on the Radiance of the Seas 7/6/02. Those were the same ports we went to. We kayaked in Juneau, did the pilots choice helicopter in Skagway and went salmon fishing in Ketchikan.

Feel free to PM me if you want more info. I loved it so much, it was my best cruise ever!

NCRedding, I'm not Kajohn, but did an Alaskan cruise two years ago on Regal Princess. I can't give any hotel recommendations since we flew in the day we sailed. Here are the excursions we did:

In Juneau:

1. Mendenhall Glacier Helicopter Tour – my family and Mother did this excursion. It was awesome!!

2. Check out the Red Dog Saloon – this is a must see!!!!! Although we read this establishment can get a bit "racey" in the evening we took our boys (13, 10 & 6) after our Mendenhall helicopter tour -- it was early afternoon. The piano player was a riot and the patrons get a bit crazy. We saw some ladies from the ship who ordered a hamburger that looked like it would feed 4-5 people!! My niece didn't want to go so my brother and his family didn't and I think he wished he'd gone anyway!

3. Pilot's Choice Helicopter Exploration: VIP Tour – My brother and his family did this one and loved it.

4. Taku Wilderness Lodge & Glacier Flightseeing – my Mom who had previously been to Alaska did this and said it was one of the best excursions she had ever been on.

In Skagway:

1. Historical Tour & Liarsville Salmon Bake – The 9 of us did this. Great food (the salmon was awesome and I don't usually like it) and a lot of fun!!!

2. White Pass Scenic Railway – After the Liarsville excursion, my brother and his family did this and liked it a lot. However, two excursions back-to-back was a bit tiring.

When we went to Alaska on Radiance of the Seas, we did:
Helicopter tour of the glaciers
Dog-sledding on top of a glacier (my favorite!)
Rafting in the bald eagle preserve
Horseback riding
I can't remember what we did at which port of call, but we enjoyed all of these experiences. They were very expensive compared to shore excursions in the Bahamas, but well worth it. Every time I see the movie "Snow Dogs," I think of our Alaskan cruise.

Would love to do an Alaskan Cruise! Do you have to pack winter gear (for dog sled excursion, for example) AND warm weather clothes AND formal wear AND shoes/boots for all these activities? How does one do this with a family? For our 3-day Wonder cruise we had 3 suitcases!!!

Kasar:

There is a lot to pack for Alaska, mainly because the clothes are bigger. My husband and I went the first week of July, and it was warm for Alaska, we were in T-shirts and jeans a couple of days, but the rest it was long sleeve shirts and pants.

As for warm clothes, we bought waterproof jackets that fold into themselves to store when you aren't wearing them, and then fleece zip up jackets that you can layer underneath. When you go to the glacier landings for viewing or dogsledding they give you big heavy boots to wear, so you don't have to pack those.

We didn't take our children with us, so it was just the two of us and we had two very large suitcases and two carryons. We used the space bags to cram it all in!!

Bogino--

When are you in Alaska? We're also cruising Celebrity there this summer.

The boards previously mentioned are the only ones that I have found--"Alaska" on cruisecritic.com does have a lot of information.

Let me know if you find anything more...

Well, Not to change the subject, but I was ALSO curious about something. This post was originally about finding other cruise boards. Does anyone have any idea where I can find GENUINE real opinions from people who have gone to the "BEACHES" resorts in Turks & Caicos?? Or even Jamacia... I find this is the place to get real answers from real people, so I'll ask the Disney cruise line boards! But as expensive as Beaches is, I want to know if it's worth it, you know? Anyways, sorry to go off topic.

Wonderwoman - cruisecritic.com boards would be a great place to go to discuss the ports you have in mind.

Aother cruise board source that has not yet been mentioned is cruise-addicts.com It's a terrific place to get information as well as user submitted photos and a HUGE library of reviews that you can pull by the individual ships.

All the mentioned boards are good for certain things but are not all things to all people. For example, our Carnival Cruise we kept up with people and got details almost exclusively with cruisecritic. But our Royal Caribbean cruise we did batter with Cruisemates. So, you just have to try them all and you'll find the right fit.

I think I need to clarify...Euphscott, thanks for the info, but the place I was talking about it a "Beaches Resort", owned by Sandals Resorts- one of those expensive, all inclusive places.. Not a cruise. ALSO, Euphscott, I PM'd you a while back about a thread on a TOTALLY different topic you had commented on and you never got it yet! Check your PM's and see if you can even remember what I'm talking about...(It had to do with getting a really good deal on a cruise.)
