Does anyone know... Is there ANY sort of OTC asthma inhaler that can be purchased?

I am feeling like my lungs and throat are full of cotton balls (allergies, it happens frequently, and this is as bad as it gets... I don't need an emergency room visit ;)), and wouldn't you know, my prescription inhaler is OUT. Couldn't get a refill until tomorrow if I wanted.

If not, I will be looking forward to a hot and steamy shower tonight! :rotfl:

Thanks!

Interesting that you should ask. Last night DS#2 got a cold that triggered his occasional but severe asthma. DH attempted to call in a prescription for Albuterol but every pharmacy in our area was closed. He bought an OTC inhaler of Primatene mist which is epinepherine. It gave him some relief. DH was concerned because he said epinepherine can have more serious side effects than albuterol but if you need it give it a try. Just follow the directions and don't assume that because its OTC its risk free.

Oh, thanks Dawn! I'm off to check it out! Out of curiosity, if you don't mind... is it pricy? I can manage and suffer through the night until I can get MY Albuterol refilled tomorrow if it's as much as my script, but I'll make the trip if it's cheap! :goodvibes

I just asked DS. Yes it sure is pricy. $20! I wonder if there is a non brand name. DS didn't think to look for that.

Ouch. My script is cheaper! :scared1: One more thing... where did he find it? Walmart? Walgreens? I might have to run out for one. Thanks again, Dawn! Hope your DS is feeling better!!! :goodvibes

I think at a CVS. The pharmacy was closed but not the store portion. I will bet it will be cheaper at Walmart and they will have an "equate" version. Nah, he's feeling lousy, chills, fever but at least he's not wheezing. With the epinepherine he probably isn't sleeping either. :lmao:

Thanks, I'll try Walmart... hope for the cheaper one!

Yuck, I am so sorry for your DS. I know I get the crazy rapid heartbeat and shakes with the Albuterol... :rotfl: It is NO fun. Hope he gets some sleep and feels better REAL soon!

Thanks again, Dawn. You were a real help!

Now, off to Walmart! :thumbsup2
