OT -- Why Should I Twitter??

Teh other thing about facebook is all the games. I'm not there to do that so as I'm invited, I block it (no farmville for me!) and when folks posts there silly things (What comic book character am I? et. al.), I hide those as well.

I don't Twitter...
I don't Face Book, My Space or any other social networking site.
And, just to out "I'm not with it" you all - I have text messaging blocked on my cell phone. :woohoo:

My DH and I were just commenting last night that we felt like we were the only people left who don't have a Facebook/MySpace Acct. We were actually saying that we didn't even know what Twitter was.

It's all I can do to keep up with the DIS. :lmao: I guess we are getting old!!

I posted a similar question a while back on the Comm Board about Facebook and Twitter. I felt like I was one of the last people on the planet who hadn't signed up....especially for Facebook.

Well I still haven't and don't plan to. Email is enough. I don't text either. If I had teenagers, I would probably need to. To me, these are just one more thing to take up time when I need/want to be doing other things. How many ways can we find to actually NOT talk to each other.

I am glad that I am not the only person who does not Twitter ! I will be honest - I did try to set it up. Mainly to keep up with my grown children who are away from home & on their own. Well, within 3 days of setting up the Twitter account, I had several people following me that I did not even know. Kinda creeped me out , you know ? :scared1::scared1: So...I am back to emailing the kids and calling them every few days to see what is new with them. I deleted my Facebook account too -I cannot keep up with it enough to keep it current - too busy with work. At the end of my work day, I would prefer to spend time with my husband and our dogs instead of in front of the computer.

;)

I do not

text message, IM, My Space, Facebook, or Twitter and have never understood any reason why I should.

I like both Facebook and Twitter...although I like Facebook much more. It took me a long time to warm up to Twitter and I'm still not 100% convinced.

The best explanation I've heard is that Facebook is the best way to connect with people you ALREADY know and that Twitter is the best way to connect with people you WANT to know.

If you're a huge Disney fan, both are full of people like you. If you have a Facebook account, feel free to check out the Owner's Locker Facebook page. If you like what you see, send us a friend request and we'll be glad to have you join the fun over there.

And sign up for a Twitter account and have a look at the Owner's Locker Twitter page. Even if you don't want to follow, check out the people we follow and the folks who follow us. It's a real gold mine of Disney nuts!

our family odes not tweet either. although we
use facebook. saeems so many tweet but personally i do not get it it must be my age DH(46).
So do not feel too bad

I love it to keep up with Disney info. The DIS is on Twitter, All Ears, and Touring Plans. I also follow some others. It is great to check out the updates from my iphone. Especially sitting in a waiting room, or in line at the grocery, where ever! When free dining came out, it was mere minutes before it popped up on my Twitter! :goodvibes

I Facebook and Twitter everyday. I'm 48 and I am trying to keep up with what my kids are doing(15 &17). I facebook with friends and I twitter to keep up with celebrities(I love American Idol- they all twitter), disney stuff and news.
Its something to do when I take breaks during the day. I Like it:goodvibes

I don't do MySpace or FaceBook but I do Twitter.

I post CVS deals on one account and the other is personal.

It becomes more interesting if you have a BlackBerry (or smart phone) as you can send tweets, pictures and videos from your phone.

I also use it extensively for following reality TV shows. You use something called hash tags to be able to see updates from people posting about the same subject. I love Big Brother, so I am always looking at #bb11 on twitter these days.

I also have my account set to get tweets as text messages on my phone from some people like Er1ca who owns iheartcvs.com. She writes about great deals, and I have received the text messages while in the store and was able to take advantage of it immediately.

If you click on the bird in my signature, it gives an idea about what I type about CVS deals.

I haven't read all of this thread, just wanted to let the OP know.....you are not the only one on the planet. No one in this household is on Twitter, Facebook or Myspace. None of it is allowed for the kids and it really isn't appealing to DH and I. Maybe we're just getting too old but we just don't get it.

Twins! :thumbsup2 All of the above apply to me.

My kids keep begging me to get a new cell phone. Why? It works just fine for me - just because it's at least 5 years old is no reason to get another one! I've never been one to need "the latest thing".

Yay twitter! I have a $100 credit to spend in in a store related to my business. :woohoo:

No Twitter; no Facebook; no cell phone; no texting; and I love every minute of NOT doing it..:goodvibes

I prefer to spend my time chatting here on the DIS; reading books; being with my family; scrapbooking; and most of all, writing and receiving very, very long letters from my many, many friends and relatives.. :goodvibes I prefer "personal" contact - as opposed to "techno" contact - feels much more like "human" contact to me.. (Not that all of you here aren't "human" to me - if you know what I mean - LOL..)

And of course I absolutely love finding 2 or 3 nice, long letters in my mail box every day rather than only bills and junk mail..:goodvibes

It's really a personal choice.. If you think you would like it, try it..:)

I am older than dirt (61), and don't use Twitter, Facebook, never sent a text message and never will (and hate when I get one that is spam and I have to pay for it). I do have a cell phone that is used rarely. DH and I use less than two hours of time per month between us. DIS is the only social web site that I visit.

I did all the email, notefiles, IM, and such when I worked for a computer company in 1984-1995. The novelty wore off a long time ago.

I have a Facebook account. My thought was to keep in touch with long-distance family and friends. I spent - er, wasted - more time playing games than anything. And while I love my family and friends I really don't care that they "won" a bunch of points playing "Celebrity Agent". I don't even look at my account anymore.

I signed up for Twitter to receive an extra entry in an online contest. I don't Tweet. Just the other day I received an email that somebody is following me. Um, I don't know this person and I've never Tweeted so why follow me?

I have way too many other things that distract me from what I should be doing :laundy: and I'm just not that interesting. Really, I'm not.

My Tweets would go like this .... "I just let our 5 dogs out, I just let our 5 dogs in, I just put laundry in the wash, I spent 5 minutes looking in cupboards trying to decide what to have for supper, still can't decide, took a nap, etc." :rotfl:

I'm just not interesting. :)

I also don't Twitter. I cancelled my myspace account after not using it for over a year. I started with Facebook in Feb but am basically done with that now. I also don't text message. I tried to text back a friend a few months ago and it took me forever, I finally finished and deleted it instead of sending it. I just don't like any of it. Glad I'm not the only one.

I use Twitter and Myspace for business reasons which has really helped. I use Facebook for friends.
