OT - When Santa comes to your house

Folks....I have edited several of these posts.

I'm certain that you can figure out why.

Santa and his little elves read these boards and we wouldnt want any of them to lose the magic of Christmas.

Please remember this when posting or I will be forced to close this thread.

I am pretty sure that next year Santa is going to give me a gift of a cruise with lots of DIS friends! :goodvibes

Santa brings it all, but Mrs. Clause brings Christmas jammies on Christmas Eve. :)
Hey Mrs. Clause brings brings Jammies to us too!!!

Sorry Kevin... If you need to close I understand.. I just did not want Jillian to be greedy and ask Santo for to much as I know he has alot of toys to deliver so I needed a little parenting advice

Hope you talk to him this year Lyn.. otherwise you will miss the boat!!:rotfl:

Thanks everyone for your responses!!

In our house Santa brings a gift and fills each stocking.
He has been known to leave a lump of coal.
As for us we keep the gifts for each other pretty simple.
1 gift from mom & dad or spouse.
1 gift from your sibling.
Christmas for us is about being with each other, enjoying the food, movies, music, lights, & decorations. :)

There is absolutely no reason to be sorry.

I've been fascinated by the stories of how Santa knows of each traditions.

JUst want to be extra careful that Santa's little elves dont get the wrong idea.

My mom tried to take credit for Santa's gifts because he spent so much on them but *I* knew they were all from Santa.

In our house Santa brings the majority of the gifts which he does wrap unless it is something that is too big and needs put together. Santa esp. brings the most wanted and most expensive gifts but only if you are good. If you are bad Santa puts coal in your stocking. My son actually got a lump of coal last year with a letter from Santa warning he better be good or he would not receive any gifts next year. He did get gifts with the warning though. Mom and dad bring the rest and esp. the boring ones like clothes. On Christmas Eve my son gets a new pair of pjs from mom and dad.

Santa brings the gifts for the stockings. Small things like gift cards, books, socks, etc. and usually one bigger thing for each person.

The rest come from us.

Same in our house.

Isn't Santa clever to know how we all like things? :goodvibes

Although he is usually called Father Christmas over here, although the American version is slipping in more and more! He obviously doesn't mind having nicknames! :cutie:

In our house, Santa follows more of my family's traditions than DH's. And to be honest, I don't really know what DH's traditions are since he isn't close with most of his family and chooses not to talk about them.

However, he made up a tradition for us to begin with our family the Christmas before DS was born: the parents do the stockings and on Christmas morning we get the stockings and bring them and the kids into our bedroom and we help "open" each others stockings while we cuddle in Mom and Dad's bed. My DS actually asked about this last year because his class was talking about their holiday traditions and all the other kids said Santa brings their stockings. We told him that Santa loves to hear about families starting their own traditions and when DH wrote him to see if it was ok if we gave the kids stockings, Santa wrote back that he thought it was a wonderful idea and he would make a note of it for his "files" and he even made a list of suggested stocking stuffers to help us that first year. DS loved this story and now I'm trying to figure out what to do when he asks to see the letter :scared1:.

Santa brings one big gift in our house and it is unwrapped. Last year he brought DS a CARS work bench with tools and DD a Princess throne.

DH and I also give the kids a few smaller gifts. Last year was a Tag reader and a couple of books for each of them.

Since all our family lives at least 5 hours away, we usually have Christmas alone at our home since DH's job does not allow him to travel during the holiday's. To save on shipping for the relatives, I pick up gifts all year long and hide them away and when relatives call to ask what to get the kids, I tell them what I have hidden away and they usually pick something and send me the money that I paid for the gift and then I wrap it and put their name on it.

I have a question that is sort of along these lines: When did your kids first write a wish list to Santa? Every year we write a letter to Santa telling him thank you for making the trip to see us and to wish everyone in the North Pole well in the coming year (kind of like a Christmas card for Santa and Company ;)). DS dictates the letter and I write it for him then he signs his name. But he just asked me yesterday when he should write a letter to Santa to let him know what he would like for Christmas because all his friends at school are doing it. I told him that since Christmas is so close now, that the letter probably wouldn't get there in time so we would make a note on the calendar for next year to send a letter in October, that way Santa would still have enough time to get something DS would like. He seemed satisfied with this, I am just curious about when other children start writing letters to Santa.

Fun question, I like seeing all the different responses! :santa:

For Christmas we follow my family traditions. Santa always fills our stockings (he just loves to put oranges in DH's stocking for some reason!!), and also provides about half of the presents. Santa brings the big ticket items and usually puts those under the tree unwrapped. The remainder of his gifts (usually miscellaneous toy items) are wrapped with special paper and gift tags from the "North Pole". The rest of the presents are from us (wrapped in "regular" paper).

We are having a hard time this year b/c we have two tweens who want really big ticket items. Blackberrys (! :rotfl2:), ipods, etc. In the past they have always wanted a bunch of different cheaper toy items so it is quite an adjustment for us! ;)

Growing up in our house Santa brought 3 gifts for each person (to mirror the 3 gifts of the magi).

The elves always wrapped them in special Santa themed wrapping paper.

Mom and Dad's gifts were always done in more generic Christmas wrapping paper - never anything with Santa on it so that it would not be confused with what Santa brought us.

And Santa never brought me clothes.

In our house Santa brings the more exciting gifts and fills the stocking. All the gifts from Santa are wrapped in color tissue paper. If the toy needed to be assembled- it is completely put together and is covered with a blanket or something.
Mom and Dad give clothes and some other small items. These gifts are wrapped in wrapping paper.

Yep, Santa always left us oranges, apples, and nuts, but he must know my kids really well because now he usually just leaves candy

We always got an orange in the toe of the stocking and a toothbrush!

Most letters to Santa go out after Thanksgiving.

We do things different than anyone I know.

We give gifts from the parents on Christmas Eve. That's how DH always did it at his house and he wants it done that way now. I think it's very wierd and don't care for it but it's a small thing that makes him happy. I think DH likes it this way because he misses the Christmas morning stuff because he won't get out of bed early but he would never admit it.
We always give the "big" gift.

Santa brings 3 or sometimes 4 gifts for the kids on christmas morning, plus the stocking. At least one of those goes with a gift that we got the kids.

We write letters to Santa a week after Thanksgiving. We light a fire in the fireplace and the letters are burned in there to magically end up in the North Pole. :thumbsup2

Lovin' this thread - it's fascinating to see all the different family traditions! As another poster said, it's great that Santa is so flexible and willing to respect each family's traditions! :santa:
