For years we had the standard turkey, ham etc...a few years ago we switched it up and had prime rib but as of late it's WONDERFULLY made mexican (Tacos, rice, pico de gallo, chimichangas, burritos, homemade refried beans, carne asada, salsa verde) by my niece's husband and to top it off I DO NOT HAVE TO COOK or plan or buy anything! Nice and calm and restful. I usually bring hot crab dip in a hawaiian bread bowl...and other's bring Chocolate delight and cheesecake.

We actually do a huge breakfast instead of a dinner. I make a fritatta, bacon and ham steaks. I also put out waffle batter and the waffle maker for who ever wants to make one. I put out a basket of croisants, muffins and bagels. Mimossa's for the adults. It is so fun and really easy.

We put together our meal in the car on our way to Karate.

prime rib, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans with bernaise sauce, shrimp cocktail, crackers, cheese and pepperoni, sparkling cider, vedtables and ranch dressing, lemon burst cake for dessert,

Since I've had DD I do a small breakfast for her 2 grandmom's to come over and see her open gifts. My Mom always made the big turkey dinner, but then changed it to lasagna so she didn't have to spend so much time in the kitchen. That's what I'll be making this year for the first time, but my DH wishes it were a turkey meal :scared1:

I've been hosting Christmas dinner most years for the past 15 or so years. My kids are picky, my brother and sister don't eat meat but my mom absolutely insists on a full turkey dinner for Christmas. My husband and I would love to make some finger foods - dips, nachos, little bite-sized appetizers, etc. We'd love to have the family over, put the stuff out around 5:00 and just munch away, play board games, watch Christmas shows, etc. That's our idea of fun. But, my mom insists on the big dinner. I suggested our idea this year and she said go ahead, but she would stay home and cook her own turkey. She's not usually difficult about most things but obviously feels strongly about this issue.

I don't like cooking all day on Christmas and messing up the entire kitchen. Last year, I ordered a pre-made dinner from Mimi's and heated it up. It was really good and no one (not even mom) complained. My brother and sister bring over their own salmon but still eat the turkey side dishes. I guess we'll be doing that again this year.

Standing rib roast, scalloped potatoes, a veg of some sort, ambrosia, rolls and for dessert, whatever fancy thing I feel like making - usually creme brulee or chocolate mousse or chocolate cloud cake - and also cookies.

Our family tradition is also brunch. We have french toast bake, egg bake and monkey bread. It is very good. Growing up we always had steak and shrimp for Christmas dinner. Christmas eve my Mom would always make oyster stew.

This year I am doing what we used to enjoy when I was a kid. I am having a bunch of items out all day. No dinner and no dinner time. We are having my favorite Christmas tradition...homemade tamales. I am from California and I cannot find good ones here so every Christmas I make a HUGE batch.

My family is boring. We have ham, turkey, etc. Although last year my nieces (we have dinner at my SIL's house) made some of the food together (they're 13 and 9) and they just did a bunch of little appetizers around their mom's big feast. The little appetizers went fast!

we do the standard: turkey, potatoes, stuffing etc...basically a repeat of thanksgiving. we go to my moms but she likes really bland food so i usually make good stuff for everyone else with tastebuds:rotfl: she wont eat candied yams or anything with onions. i like onion flavor i just dont like the veggie itself whereas she hates even the flavoring!
My cousin and i were talking about dinner the other day. she is in florida and far from family. she likes to cook and bake and she told me that every other year they do an italian christmas dinner...everything is done from scratch...stuffed shells ravioli all kinds of stuff. but on the off years she says it depends on her mood. one year she did prime rib. we plan on following them to florida soon and i can't wait to eat at her house! she is the best cook i know!:lmao:

We have a lot of people here on Christmas. A few years ago, my mom and I stopped making all the hot, standard holiday food. It is too much work and I want to spend time with my kids. We also play a lot of games and have activities for the day.
We usually try to make foods that can be prepared the night before since we eat at 1PM. My mom makes a ham, potato salad, rolls, and pasta salad. I am making a turkey with stuffing, cranberry jello salad and some desserts. Other people will bring veg. trays, crackers and cheese ball, cookies, drinks. It is a lot easier this way.

We are having a crown pork roast this year! They look just fabulous (kind of like a crown) and are so festive, and taste great too!

We have pepperoni and cheese, and my Mom's special punch pre- dinner. We make a lemon pepper pork roast(from Sam's club- already seasoned- just have to cook it), and good seasons red potatoes, a couple of veggies, and rolls, and we have chocolate cake with caramel sauce for dessert(sp?- I always get that wrong) I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. LOL

We go to my Grandma's the weekend before and do the standard fare. At our house, I make a pasta for Christmas Eve and have leftovers for the Christmas dinner. Christmas morning we will open presents and have a big breakfast.

Wow...you can cook all that IN THE CAR while driving to Karate??:rotfl:
Seriously...I had to read this a few times before I figured it out...I know, I'm an airhead, LOL I was thinking..."Why do they have Karate on Christmas?":rotfl2:

Christmas is my day off in the kitchen, with one small exception. The days before, I prepare party trays (a la the old Swiss Colony style, very pretty) with smoked sausage and cheeses, as well as veggie, cracker, and cookie trays. The day before, I prepare the makings for sauerkraut balls. Christmas morning is powdered donuts and milk for breakfast. It's tradition and the one time I tried to change it, there was wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then we open presents. Afterwards, DDs play while hubby and I fire up the deep fryer and finish the sauerkraut ball prep. I pull out the party trays and a Honeybaked ham and we take about 30 minutes to finish up the sauerkraut balls. Then we nosh all afternoon. My in-laws come over in the afternoon and they nosh with us.

I did turkey one year and I swore never again. The next year we did a cold buffet and my fil was less than thrilled. Then we added a few hot things in crockpots and it seamed to make everyone happy. I don't know what we are going to do this year. We are cooking the food at our house and bringing it down to mil and fil to make life easier for them. BUT they don't have a stove that works so that is going to cut out some of the hot appetizers I do and they are not things that travel well.

I guess I better be planning the new menu with dh.

I'm english, DH is Italian but has lived over here his whole life, so we try to please everyone (that always works!) So we have:

Italian antipasto to start
Lasagna as the second course (by which point, I'm stuffed, my family is stuffed and DH's family are still going)
For the main course, ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potato pie, mushroom risotto, chestnut stuffing, cornbread dressing, honey glazed parsnips, orange glazed carrots, brussel sprouts, braised cabbage and gravy
For dessert, English christmas pudding with brandy butter, a chocolate yule log, cherry pie with vanilla ice cream and red velvet cake.

This feast that could feed 100 people is actually for 15 people...I'm 23 and DH is 25, we're both the babies of our families and yet somehow we cook every year. Everyone chips in $20 for food, we eat for three hours and I usually open the wine before noon. Merry Christmas!

We have been doing breakfast since the kids were little, now 29, 26, and 23.
Waffles w/strawberries and cool whip, hashbrowns, hm biscuits, sausage, bacon, eggs, hm gravy all the things that take forever and you should not eat.:thumbsup2 We started doing this when the kids wanted to stay home and play with the new stuff and not go to relatives. This year is the first time, that our oldest won't be home, he is stationed in Japan for 3 yrs (thank you army).
